This space is really small and not really conducive to hanging around. Not that that would matter. More than half the times I’ve gone here, it’s been closed. There’s a sign on the door apologizing for the«limited hours» while they’re «expanding» the business. Limited hours? No, more like random hours. I’ve tried to grab a beverage from here on numerous occasions at various times of day without luck. This place isn’t really in a high foot traffic area. It’s a bit of a destination spot. It’s not worth the walk over just to find it closed. Quite a gamble whether it’s going to be open or not. Not exactly conducive to «expanding» one’s business. More like«contracting» it. Yeah, contracting it. Contracting it so much that it contracts itself right out of my mind. Bye bye. Only so many chances you can give a place before you give up any hope that it’ll ever be open when you go there. They do have a nice wall of tea … that I can’t seem to get any of. Consistent hours, people, stick to consistent posted hours. It really does wonders for expanding the business.

This is a really interesting small space with comfortable seating options. A large variety of coffee and tea options. Free wifi with a solid stable signal. PC rental available for $ 5 an hour. As others have said the owner is friendly and accommodating. Every neighborhood should have a place like this!

Great little hidden gem in the city! The owner is very nice and extremely helpful and knowledgeable re: coffees and teas. I personally dislike super acidic battery acid like coffee, so I was so excited that this place has delicious, smooth dark roasts! Its self-serve/unlimited re-fills and free wi-fi(there’s open access computers!) so you can try as many of the coffees as you like! FYI they will start to only accept Cash soon but there’s an ATM inside

After long, agonizing months of walking past its papered-up windows, Filter Café is finally open. Based on my experiences thus far, it was worth the wait. I stopped by for my first visit one weekday evening, soon after it opened. It was empty except for myself and the owner/proprietor, who gave me the spiel. I opted for an espresso and settled down in the comfy chair, adjacent to an equally accommodating-looking couch, next to the front window and a(slightly elevated) view of 12th St. As I sipped my(quite good) espresso, I enjoyed vintage Destiny’s Child hits on the stereo, while episodes of AbFab were projected on a screen.(As you walk in, the right wall is lined with computers for hourly rental. The screen is located above this set-up.) So, if you were worried that Filter wouldn’t be quite gay enough for the neighborhood, that’s your answer right there. On a return visit, I was glad to see the shop occupied by other customers; Filter is a welcoming space with high-quality caffeine, I am hoping it succeeds. Several nights per week its open until midnight, so I foresee this becoming a popular study spot during exams.

This shop was great! I was in Philadelphia, waiting for my husband to finish being a good worker-bee, and I went book-shopping down the street at Giovanni’s Room(review to follow!). Laden down with books, I needed a beverage, preferably iced. Now, a little background on my coffee preferences: I love coffee, but I don’t like hot coffee during the day. Hot coffee is for dessert. I went into this place looking for coffee and a good place to sit and read for a minute. I found it. The shop was just wonderful. The coffee was fresh at 4 in the afternoon and the staff were very very friendly. I’m glad that I got the chance to see the infancy of this awesome shop because I’m sure that it’s going to blossom and grow. The wifi is free. The desktops are $ 5 an hour. I didn’t check out either to see if they were any good.

Yay! I really am a fan! I’ve been curious what was going to open up above Spruce Street Videos and voila – Filter! I’m a coffee/tea nut and I judge places heavily on freshness of the coffee since my first cup is usually around 5PM and(thank god!) they keep their coffee fresh! I had coffee with a shot of espresso late afternoon and it was delicious. Another cup early evening hour and still fresh? I’m hooked. The teas are pretty good as well. I really want to try more of their teas since there are sooooo many choices! They offer an abundance of teas – over 50 with more on the way! Open late night.(Again big plus for us night shifters, hate resorting to Wawa coffee!) I Seating outside to people watch and couches inside to relax. They offer FREE Wi-Fi ANDDDD they have a PC workstation setup where you can pay $ 5/hr. A huge flat-screen TV rests above the stations where you can«rent» a movie for $ 2 and they also have some chill tunes to choose from. Checkers/Chess boards throughout. My only quarrel with the place is that since it is a small spot, there’s not a lot of spots to hang out if there are multiple groups. Still, I’ll keep going back. Check it out!
