At 11pm on a Sunday a bunch of friends and I got really hungry. High Stakes was the only place open with decent reviews so we decided to try it. Upon entering, this place is a no frills bar. It’s not decorated with beachy knick knacks and fake palm trees to appeal to tourists. It’s a simple bar with tables and TV’s around the joint where you can kick back eat some good food, drink a beer, and relax. We came in as the last football game was airing and they had GREAT football specials. $ 5 «mini» Cheesesteaks, $ 2 beers, and $ 5 for 10 wings. I ordered a cheesesteak and wings thinking the«mini» would be a dinner roll with steak. This was a standard full sized cheesesteak with 2 halfs! I saw the size and regretted ordering the wings because I knew I couldn’t finish booth. The cheesesteak was delicious and the wings were big and crispy. 5 of us guys walked out of High Stakes STUFFED and the tab was only $ 50 total not including tip. I highly recommend this place during football Sundays!

Cheesesteak egg rolls are yummy. Place is kinda loud where it’s hard to have a conversation with any music playing. Enjoy Sunday bingo though!

Great subs. We went on a Sunday which was kind of cute. 70+ year olds playing bingo in the bar. No joke. Sweet people and good food. I’ll go back.

I am responding to Brian, the owner/manager about my negative experience at his tavern. I was accusatory and edgy in my interaction with the server/bartender that night. Unknowable was stressed about the crowd that eve. . I later learned he may be from Philly and so am I. Getting close and personal is a Philly thing. He did try to make things right with the drinks and wings. He could have told me the hot wings were very hot. Too hot for my tastes. But I could have asked. I will take responsibility for my lack of grace. I thought I was being empathetic about his health issues and him just getting back to work. That didn’t go over as I hoped it would I apologize for trashing the place. I just had to express my frustration. mike

Very very happy with our meals!!! Found this gem on Unilocal of course :) We been back twice in one week cause it was so so good… and very easy on the wallet. They have a person with a keyboard singing as u eat which is quit cute!!! There r many tv all on ESPN channels so u can enjoy all sports. The happy prices r great and different for each day u visit. The philly steak and cheese is my go to but the jumbo chili cheese dog is my sons favorite!!! The Oreo churros were amazing as well!!! We own a place right down the street and will make sure we come back often that’s for sure!!!

finally got around to trying them out, and very glad I did The fries were decent, but the onion rings were outstanding, and the ring dipping sauce was creamy and delectable my friend had the beef cheesesteak, I had a chicken cheesesteak. the meat was very high quality and was quite filling a great option for the area

Tried High Stakes for the first time just this week, and I will definitely return. The beef cheesesteak(with mayo and onion) was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. The meat is high-quality and plentiful. My friend and I ordered fries and onion rings for sides, because I felt a sudden compulsion to have the most stinging and pungent after-meal breath possible. The fries were okay(better once we dressed them in some Old Bay) but the onion rings were everything I ask for in onion rings, which is only two things: Be large, be crunchy. Check and check. The sauce they came with was so delicious that I even dipped my sub into it.

Boyfriend is a cheesesteak lover and really got me to enjoy the ones here. Extra cheese is required add some salt to the fries!

These cheesesteaks are good. The fries & onion rings are not homemade, so that’s a bummer. This place has a great mix of regulars & it was a lot of fun people watching. The beer selection was ok with me, even if the bartender seemed really confused when I asked if they had Dogfish.

Fast friendly service. Our waitress made us feel welcome right away. We had the cheesesteaks and onion rings. There was plenty of meat and cheese and the rolls were soft. Great meal at a reasonable price Highly recommended

As I was getting ready to head down to the beach for our vacation I decided to ask a friend who lives here to recommend some great places I should try, you know the kind, the ones the locals keep as secret as possible. We’ve always had favorites that we’ve gone to faithfully but as they’ve grown in popularity, the quality has gone downhill while their prices have risen. So, that being said, my husband is always on the hunt for an amazing cheesesteak so when my friend Steve told new about this place we knew we had to check it out. It’s in a strip mall but has the feel of your neighborhood bar, the place where they know your name and you for right in. They have got to have the best Crushes I have ever had, the orange is delicious but the grapefruit crush is to die for. They squeeze an entire pink grapefruit into an ice tea glass, almost the size of 2 crushes anywhere else in OC and way cheaper, about $ 6.75. The wings are huge and juicy, served with blue cheese and celery and allay a great deal for your money, the fried pickles are divine, deep fried just till the batter is golden and crispy, leaving behind a plump, juicy dill pickle and it’s served with a spicy brown mustard. But let’s get to the item that brought us here, the cheesesteak. I chose the Philly style which is made using Cheez Whiz and fried green pepper and onions and I opted for what they call a «mini» which I still could only eat half of. The roll is beyond perfectly toasted and never gets soggy, even when I reheated my other half and everything it’s seasoned so perfectly that I never once needed to use the salt or pepper(I’m a huge fan of salt so that in and of itself speaks volumes). My husband opted for the regular cheesesteak with tomatoes, fried onions, mayo and hots. and quickly proclaimed that it was the best he ever had. Within our week at the beach we came back 2 more times, bringing my son and his girlfriend along for subs and friends back for crushes. My picky son ordered the Philly like mine but the regular size and even he couldn’t finish his. We tried both the fries and onion rings(on separate visits) and both were very good but I liked the beer battered onion rings best. If you’re looking for great good at great prices you have to try this place. Oh, and for the record, the long haired bartender that another reviewer complained about in his review, his name was Tom and he was friendly and personable to everyone. Not only that, we were seated at a table and the bar was really busy but we were waited on and served quickly and after we paid the check with Jack who I believe might be the owner, Tom came out as we were leaving to thank us for the tip. I have a feeling that the other reviewer’s(Dave L.) problem had more to do with him being frustrated about not being able to phone his order in because he couldn’t get thru(always a good sign that a place is good). Sounds like he sat at the bar just to order food instead of going to carry out

Good food with a local feel not very touristy like other places. Has two bars and take out area. Was a little loud but not drunk out of control loud. Overall a nice spot out of the way. Multiple TV’s on every wall to watch all sorts of sports.

A-Maz-ing! We went here because of the Unilocal reviews of the cheesesteaks. We were not disappointed. Stated with an order of the honey bbq wings. I wish I could bottle that sauce up and taken it home! The wings were not too big and not too small. Perfectly fried and nice and hot when they came out. The smell was mouthwatering! Perfection. I moved onto the cheesesteak sliders. These little babies are delish! You get 4 of these loaded with steak, choice of cheese & you can add any other thing you want. I got it with provolone & wiz & fried onions. The potato rolls they are on are soft but strong enough to hold all that yumminess. Not overly greasy or sloppy. Loved! My husband ordered a Philly cheesesteak. He got it how it comes… Wiz, fried onions, & green peppers. Equally as good as the sliders. The bun it is on is so good. Wonder where they get their bread. The service was top notch! Our waiter was authentically enthusiastic & attentive. Never let’s your drink empty and periodically checks in with a warm and friendly tone. Check this place out. Worth the drive if u r staying in OCMD.

Not a bad little spot. Stopped in with my wife to catch the Mexico /Netherlands World Cup match and to try out the«fabled«cheese steaks. It was around noon on a Sunday and the bar was about half full, no one at the table in the restaurant section. They advertise happy hour specials from 11 – 7. Drink specials; domestic drafts 1.50, domestic bottles 2, wines 4, and something else. Food specials were«Samplers» 6.00, fried Bologna 5, 10 wings 6.99, 2 steak and cheese sliders for 5. Not a bad deal on appetizers. The service was friendly. We got an order of wings and an order of 4 sliders(8.95 from the menu). The wings(medium) were good sizes and cooked well. The sauce wasn’t overpowering or special but good. But the star of the day was definitely the sliders. Your choice of cheese(we went with provolone) with mayo and tomato on a potato bread. Delicious. Not sopping wet with grease, but a great balance that I would recommend if you’re in the mood for a great cheesesteak.

Every time I come to DE to visit family, High Stakes is on my agenda. They have the best cheesesteaks around. I recommend the«Philly». Yes, it comes with cheese whiz, which I know sounds gross, but it really makes this sandwich taste amazing. I also order a side of fries with«onion ring» sauce on the side. I have taken friends here and they are now hooked on the Philly as well. We had sat at the bar and«Lane» was our server/bartender. He was very friendly and personable. I can’t wait until I’m back in the area.

I use their cheesesteak as a standard for all others because it is very good and the rolls are too. I do some work for the store next door and always make it a point to swing by and put in my order. If you like wraps the chicken caesar is good and I also had the chicken cheesesteak as well as the buffalo version, all good. The onion rings are pretty good and come with a unique, but good dipping sauce. They sport a busy happy hour on most days so this place is a hit among the locals and rightly so. Always friendly and highly recommended.

About a year ago, I bought a vacation home in North OC. We come to the house often. I have been desperately trying to find a good cheesesteak. I have come close a couple of times, but have come up short. HIgh Stakes is really, really close to my place. I’ve been to the Walgreens right next door to it many times. I never thought to try High Stakes. I will chalk it up to the name. The name High Stakes does not really reflect to me what this place is. I decided to go there after yet another Unilocal search. Let me tell you that the sub blew me away. WOW!!! The meat was great. The bread was awesome. Everything was perfect. The portion was very generous. Much bigger than you get anywhere else at this price. Speaking of price, the icing on the cake was that the price was VERY reasonable. I found my sub place.

99.9÷100 I’ve had good service here, as long as you’re out by 12:00 midnight. After midnight they open the doors and start pouring the bleach on the floors. After midnight, it seems you’re no longer welcome. Aside from this the food and the service are 100% on point. Best cheese steaks in the oc, Fenwick area. That is just an opinion too, as I also think Pats is better than Genos.
