My experiences with Captain John’s have been positive and empowering. Empowering … You may ask? Yes, empowering! This business supports local women 18 and older getting together for free recreational fun and potluck in the summer months on Thursdays. These events are sponsored by Captain John and Babes on boards(BOB). Standup Paddling(SUP) is an awesome workout for all ages and sizes. It doesn’t require much balance and the harbor that we paddle on does not get wakes from fast boats. This business supports health, friendships, and community. Kudos to the owners for taking an interest in Big Bear and surrounding mountain communities. Captain John’s rents kayaks, canoes, and other water equipment at reasonable prices. I often see rental deals from this business listed on Groupon. If you have never been to Big Bear or surrounding towns, check it out. The drive is not that bad and is approximately 90 minutes from LA. Summer is just as beautiful as winter.

This place is too legit, caption john is a true gentleman and really cool dude. We stumbled upon this place trying to find a place to bbq and after we found it were invited to stay and it was a blast. The kids can run around and the guys can fish, plenty of tables for girls to talk. Seriously if your in the big bear area this place is a great family stop, bbq, picnic, fish, boat rental, or just stop in and say hi to the caption. P. s. It wouldn’t hurt to bring the captan a beer or two.

These guys advertise their 4th of July as a catered bbq with live reggae music. It’s just a dj up on the hill where you can’t hear it and no food except whatever people bring themselves. Super Lame. And then they charge $ 20 to get in too. Their ad is purposely misleading. What a bust! thanks for ruining July 4th! The whole thing was SHOT.
