Here for lunch. What a disappointment. Shrimp salad on a roll. Place was EMPTY. Took 20 minutes to bring our food. My shrimps were cut in half so they didn’t have to give me any extra. The roll was so thick I couldn’t bite into it. One tiny corner was«toasted». The entire rest my plate was lettuce with three slices of cucumber. Definitely not worth $ 14. Also had the Cuban which must have been the toddler size it was so small & sweet potato fries. Well I won’t be back for lunch you can be sure of that.

We had dinner here last night with my cousin and her husband. We are on Long Island for a family party today and decided to drive in yesterday. Neither my cousin who lives in the area nor I had eaten here before. The place is a very beer hall type of set up. Weather was great and the outdoor patio was packed, it was 7pm Friday. We decided to eat inside and upon entering we saw a long bar and the on site brewery. Wide open area. We were greeted and escorted to our table in the dining area which is set back a bit from the bar. It really does a good job of making you feel like you are in an authentic German brau haus. I have been to and eaten in Germany many times this place is fairly close in feel and presentation. Very friendly and a bit loud. Waitress arrived and explained a few dishes and the beer offerings. I got a Pilsner my wife ordered an amber lager. Both were very good. A fellow diner who was just finishing up offered some advice that the veal dishes were great and the size is very large. To start we ordered a stuffed potato pancake to split for the four of us. It was great and we were tempted to get another but did not. The pancake was crispy and served with cheese, onions and sour cream. For our mains my wife got a specialty German chicken dish, I ordered Wiener Schnitzel a la Holstein, with an egg and anchovies. They were both wonderful. My veal was huge indeed, hanging off the plate. The breading was crisp not burnt. The veal was tender. My wife and I typically eat half of what the other orders so we can compare. My cousin and her husband both got different veal dishes. We all enjoyed our meals. I thought the spaetzle was unremarkable. The red cabbage was too sweet for me and the portion was silly big. All in all we say service«b», food«b+», ambience«a-», value«b». The beer brewed on site was also quite delicious. We would return when in the area. Nancy & Mark.

I am usually happy with this place. It is always great when I sit down to eat. I was running around on my lunch break and decided to order a salad from here. I have had this salad before and it was delicious. The Cajun Cobb salad is what I ordered, now they left out the bacon(it is a Cobb salad), and they put maybe one piece of crumbled blue cheese. I was very upset. Needless to say do not order take out from this place. The food is great when you eat in house, but don’t order from there, not even at 1:30pm when there is no one there and they have time to make a salad.

For a first time trying out German food I have nothing to say but everything was excellent. Had the giant pretzel, the dragon wing and three different entrée. Mine was amazing, that red cabbage is absolutely delightful. And their house brewed beer were all great. Kevin our bartender did an awesome job. I will definitely go back there.

My wife like BFBH better than I do, but all-in-all I like the place. It’s pretty out of the way, so you need to know where you’re heading. It’s located in a industrial park area just off route 110. German food isn’t my favorite, but the Mrs. has enjoyed every meal she’s had. The beers are terrific, with the pilsner and amber both very drinkable. My favorite thing on the menu is the«flamecake.» You have to try it! Marscapone, onions and bacon on a flatbread that is reason alone to swing by!

In the middle of an industrial area is this very unassuming restaurant. Park and walk inside and you feel as though you have arrived at Ocktoberfest. All the signs of Germany are present and very welcoming. I have had several great meals — love the pork wings and the pretzels. Their burgers are excellent as well. It’s down the block from my office and always a great choice.

God help me! I have no idea why this place is even open. I love German food, but I will literally take a train one hour in the city to do it justice. This place is just not good.

This place is been a favorite for many years. Black Forest Brew Haus has been creating some of Long Island best micro brews since long before it became fashionable to do so. They got it down years ago. They also have a full menu of yummy German food and interesting bar-bites. During the summers they have an outstanding Friday happy hour outside with live music and a free buffet. Free food and free live music while you watch the private planes flying in overhead. Can’t be beat.

this german themed eatery and pub has been around for over twenty years. unfortunately, the chairs, floors, tables, bar and kitchen have as well. it’s hard to enjoy eating at an establishment that has zero intentions of reinvesting into their facility. decrepit and dirty surrounding, do not make for a positive dining experience. the only positive here is that the beer is brewed on site. pass on the brunch, as its daytime and you can literally see how dirty the place really is.

As a person that loves authentic German food, this did nothing for me. The menu is pricey for the amount of food you receive and the service is mediocre at best. Went with a large group here… would not suggest for anyone to do that. They weren’t very accommodating, they shoved us into this tiny room and I felt like everyone was sitting ontop of eachother. The food was ordinary, and that’s being nice. They give you a bread basket when you arrive, which contained bread that was as hard as a brick. Not good at all! The sauerbraten was extremely dry and the spaetzle was horrid. The waitstaff wasn’t very good either. When it was time for the food to be brought to the table, our waitress gave people the wrong plates. And it took ages to get refills on our drinks(They don’t give free refills on soda by the way). Overall, I was not impressed with the food or service at this resturant and I will not be returning!

So I saw a groupon and decided that I wanted to try Brew Haus again… it was good german food we had the flamcake which is like a thin crust pizza with cheese and bacon and it was huge!!! We had the Wiener Schnitzel and the Plowman’s Platter which were both decent. The cabbage was really too sweet and the dumplings didnt have much flavor. Had the black forest cake which was yummy!!!

Hey good afternoon Folks . I love to eat German food and sample German fare. so when I read about the potential of a great German place in Unilocal and having had passed the place a few times My friend and I had wanted to stop in to this German beer hall and restaurant ‚ Unfortunately I was not able to try any of their delicious fare as I arrived at 1:30 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. To sit at the bar enjoy some of their brews and watch some games however . There is no option for food or appetizers, other than their buffet that I really did not have the time for. I don’t know how good it might have been… I was just looking to try some of their potato pancakes, sauerbraten Yeager schnitzel, or perhaps the giant pretzel with some of their much talked about Brews. I mentioned to our server(young lady at the bar,) That was my first time, and I have found some of Unilocal reviews and went to try this place out she said with some hesitancy that if she could try to ask in the back if they could serve me some other food as it was not yet 3 p.m. and was only serving buffet. I really didn’t want my first experience to be one of begging to try their food… so unfortunately I’m not able to write about the place then had to get the check and leave… as there was no sense in being there any longer. As I could not order appetizers… at a bar to have with my beers on a Sunday afternoon. I look forward to returning and updating my review in the future, but as a warning if you looking to have anything other than buffet don’t come here before 3 o’clock. I’m giving a 3 star rating because the ambience and friendliness of the staff and the potential the place has in the future to be a good place I can go to and enjoy. (GRANDPA, used to say .“always put your customers money in the cash drawer.”)

ok… this is sad, This place was on my top 5 to go on our date night #dindin but actually recently i had to remove this place :( in the past, the food was delicious… my goodness, the richest, sauciest, CHEESIEST place to eat. i was in love with their soft pretzels, and beef. I’ve had their sausages and was in love… but something happened, they just didnt taste good the last time we went. Date night was up and our normal places were closed for renovation,(the only reason why this place was number 5 on my list is because of the carbs… the pretzel, cheese and potato dishes means you need to be hangry to finish your plate) we usually come here on their dead nights, no fun entertainment going on, just good food, but not on this sad day. we noticed the menu was different but ordered like normal, 2 waters, the 2 cheese pretzel appetizer, i ordered beef stroganoff an matt ordered something with potatoes an some crusted bread like item.(cant find it on the online menu) 1st…our pretzels were burnt… but still soft but the cheese… the cheese is what makes the place for me… it tasted different. bad different. i barely could finish it my stroganoff wasnt great either… chewy meat, sauce was good but not enough to cover all the pasta… the ratio was odd. Matts dish wasnt any better, we both ended up leaving food behind…(I AMSOAGAINSTWASTINGFOOD) …but we couldnt eat anymore im sorry. I wont be able to come back here as my taste buds have been ruined. we spent the night wondering if the chef changed, gave it 2 stars becuase they used to be great.

Good food and dueling pianos was a lot of fun. Waitress wasn’t the best — we had to ask her for napkins about 3 times before she brought them to our table. Would definitely go again because there were so many options on the menu. If you’re going on a Friday night for the dueling pianos, make a reservation.

I had the pleasure of having lunch with my Dad this past Saturday. We always have a good time eating, drinking, & talking *ish cause that’s what we do! On this day our wonderfully attentive server Kevin took very good care of us. Even sidestepping our table side visit from Jerry a patron from a few tables over. Jerry introduced himself & asked did we «REALLY» like German food?! My dad & I looked at each other, & telepathically told each other«We know where this is going.» Jerry informed us he was born in 1927 in Berlin but because they were Jewish his family left & moved to Palestine. So he grew up in Israel but his mom cooked German food & he loves it. We got a whole personal history lesson, which just added to our experience here. We asked to start our meal with the Dragon Wings which Kevin said was a great choice. They turned out to be perfectly glazed pork ribs or mini shanks served with a wasabi bleu cheese dipping sauce. Strange combo but quite delicious IMO. My dad got the Plowmans Platter which was an assortment of wursts, hot potato salad & sauerkraut. He was very pleased with his meal. While I on the other hand got the Beef Rouladen which is a Beef Cutlet wrapped around a carrot, celery, & a pickle braised until tender. Even with the gravy & Au Jus it was a little dry to my tastes. It was served with red cabbage & a potato dumpling that I really didn’t care for. It was bland & gummy. The red cabbage had good flavor though. A nice sweet tart balance. We washed it all down with a tall pint of very good Heferwiezen that actually had citrus & some banana notes to it. A good meal but not great. The décor & atmosphere was very pleasing though. I’d go back for the beer & Dragon Wings for sure. Give it a whirl & ask for Kevin.

Pulling up to this place I was a little nervous… it didn’t scream amazing brewery from the outside. However, this place is why you should never judge a book by its cover. It was delicious and so much fun! We went during Oktoberfest. I tried the beer sampler which was a small serving of all 6 beers they brew in-house on tap. Loved them all but especially loved the Oktoberfest option and the porter. I don’t think there’s a bad beer there, of course depending on your tastes. For appetizers we split stuffed dumplings and potato pancakes. Oh geez. These were both the highlights of the meal. The stuffed dumplings didn’t tickle my fancy when I read them on the menu, but they were my favorites when they came out! Little balls of heaven stuffed with cheese and ham, with a few caraway on the outside of these deliciously crispy stuffed dumplings. The potato pancakes are«loaded» with plenty of cheese, sour cream and chopped green onions. Perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside but soft and smooth on the inside. For my meal, I tried something different for myself and got the Roulade. A thinly sliced sirloin steak rolled and stuffed with carrots, onions, pickle and mustard. I’m not an expert on German food, but I found the steak to be a little dry. The stuffing was interesting, especially with the warm pickle, but I liked it. The red cabbage side was fairly sweet and I really enjoyed it. I could have eaten even more of it if I wasn’t already so stuffed with all of the other delicious food and beer! The service was great. Our waitress was quick and responsive to all of our needs. We sat on the outside patio that was decorated as a beer garden. Great for a small or large group of friends on a beautiful day. Definitely would recommend this place!

This is probably one of the most mediocre German restaurants. It’s great to come with a large group seeing as there’s plenty space and even an outdoor patio. They have both German and continental fare such as burgers, steaks, fish and chips, etc. it seems the later is much better than their Bavarian dishes. Sauerbraten is not even marinated and there are no ginger snaps in the gravy. Tafelspitz which was thin sliced pot roast with a strange tasting horse radish sauce. Not so good. Also disappointing was their house brewed beers. Service was very slow even though it wasn’t full. Prices are very reasonable though, 10 people with appetizers, mains, deserts and several beers only came to just over $ 300 not including gratuity. The atmosphere is also very festive. Too bad the German side of the menu isn’t that good.

I feel like I had to update my review after our experience here last Friday. My friends and I sat down for a couple drinks and some apps. We sat down at a table right next to the bar, which would prove to be an advantage since we had to walk over to the bar to get more drinks later on that night. I always love their amber ale, so I have no complaints about it. My boys and I decided to share the app sampler – pierogies, wings, a pretzel, and pork wings. The pierogies were the type I could by at the supermarket and make myself… and it looked like it WAS from the supermarket. The pretzel was great, but only one pretzel to share between 3 people was kind of tricky. The wings were wings, and my friends raved about the pork wings(it looked like ribs that were separated covered in this brown, honey barbeque-looking sauce). The service is what really took this experience down. We sat there with empty drinks for almost 15 minutes in an empty restaurant, while our server was at the bar not 5 feet away averting her eyes so we couldn’t flag her down. We decided to skip the second round and just flag her down for the check. I couldn’t have high tailed it outta there faster. I don’t think I will be back for a long, looong time.
