Last weekend was my fifth or sixth visit. Our party of six had a full meal. Clams and oysters were first. We have always come for oysters, and never been disappointed. Entrees are consistently good. I’ve never had had bad service here.

The food was just awful. I never had such horrible lobster. It tasted like it was frozen from the supermarket

DON“T COMEHUNGRY! Torn on this place. While food is good and service o.k., portions are extremely small for the price. Had the PEI mussels and the wife had the Cajun popcorn for starters. Now, I’ve had PEI mussels many times in many places in many areas… these looked like they came out of Staten Island. Actual meat in the mussels wouldn’t feed a mouse. Wife didn’t fare much better with the cajun popcorn. Maybe 10 pin-head sized kernels on a huge plate. We both started laughing at the presentation and waited anxiously for our entrees. Once again, the calamari and fried oyster plates were tasty… however, barely enough food to feed one(and my wife and I are fairly small people). SO… I’d say, if you want to eat a little lighter… get some decent beers on tap and just have a night out in a more casual atmosphere, this is place is OK but not great for the price. Would probably not go back.

Decided to go here because other reviews mentioned that the oysters were fresh but not even that turned out to be true. This place is the perfect candidate for the show Bar Rescue. 1) The calamari was definitely frozen 2) Instead of Cesar dressing on my Cesar salad, there was tartar sauce 3) Our waitress was nice enough, but lacked basic serving skills The clam chowder was its only saving grace

I’m conflicted. I give the raw bar 4 stars as everything is fresh. French onion soup was awesome, even the chicken tenders for my daughter were fresh and homemade. Service gets about a 2.5. I’ve been here 3 times over the past 2 years. Each time service was a bit nonchalant, although the last time I went this past weekend we had 2 servers(maybe one was the expediter). One was professional, nice and friendly enough. The other couldn’t muster up a smile and went right out front by the main entrance to smoke right after she served our food. Big no no for restaurants to allow this.

I would recommend this place. The small restaurant is very inviting which adds to the great ambience. Outdoor seating is available during the warmer months. I went with a party of 8 and our server was very attentive. We didn’t have to wait long for any of our courses. Our table ordered the oysters and fried calamari for appetizers. They enjoyed the tenderness of the seafood(never overlooked). The only think it lacked was seasoning. Same with entrées; very tender, nice size portions but lacked seasoning. I would give it another try.

I was very pleased with the food and the service. One of my friends had recommended the Black Rock and told me that I would not be disappointed. I had a business meeting there and the waitress made us feel very special. Their menu was excellent with a variety of seafood from around the region. If you are in the Fairfield or Bridgeport area you should try it out. Get there early because the parking can get crowded. Great food.

A wonderful place to get raw oysters! In fact, this is the only place in Fairfield, Connecticut to get a wide range of raw oysters from different parts of the United States. I would recommend the«Blue Point» and«Kumamoto» oysters because they are very flavorful and plump. For my appetizer, the«Escargot» was delicious. It was buttery, and it melted in my mouth. The texture was soft and chewy, but it was very hot! My «Seafood Linguine» entrée was wonderful. It consisted of a lot of seafood including shrimps, mussels, clams, scallops, and calamari. The sauce was very rich and creamery. Everything was cooked very well, and I get to go home without any stomach problems from all this seafood. The price for these food was a bit overpriced, but it’s worth it.

I have been going here for years. I usually come for a late lunch, when it isn’t too crowded. They have good food and the service is prompt. Tasty crab cakes and clam cowder. The fried oysters are also cooked perfectly. There is a nice bar area as well.

This place is very out dated. There also seemed to be a lack of professionalism throughout the restaurant. I don’t think the owners(one was sitting watching tv in the bar) really care all that much. I had 6 raw Wellfleet Oysters that we were good, an order of roasted oysters that were just okay, and the chicken fried steak. Not something I normally order from anywhere but it was just plain bad. The menu seems like it was thrown together by people with no passion for what they do anymore. This is a good place to come on a Sunday afternoon with your grandmother.

Go here only if you want Ok food at high prices with a server that missed day 1 of training. Staff had difficulty seating us even though the dining room was 7⁄8 empty. Server was nice, however needed more training on service techniques. Had oysters off the bar, first time i have ever sent an oyster back. For the main course we had sea scallops and seared yellowfin tuna. The Scallops were the size and shape of bay scallops, seasoned and well done. The yellowfin tuna did not apper delicious on the plate, it was a poor cut of tuna with some thick soy sauce mixture poored on it. The fish was cooked as i requested, seared and medium on the inside, however the texture was thick and rubbery like it was frozen, not fresh. Veggies on both plates were the best part of the meal and the rice was not edible as it had an off taste and seemed to be under cooked. This was the first time in years i was able to take my wife out without the kids, I wish i would have a chosen better restaurant.

Been here many times. The food has always been good. We usually get oysters and they’re super yummy. The patio isn’t bad on a nice day although; there’s usually lots of traffic noise. I prefer sitting inside for that reason. Overall a great go-to for good seafood.

Another one missed! I’ve run out of excuses so, I better get to it! Great Blood Mary’s. Excellent oyster menu Like Kumamoto & Wellfleet but we usually stick w local Blue Points– bcz they are the best! I’ve enjoyed both lunch & dinner as well as just small plates @ the bar and all are a good option. I have come to the conclusion that these are the best things on the menu(besides the raw oysters w minion être sauce): Oysters Rockafeller, FFresh little neck clams on the ½ shell, Smoked Trout plate — really excellent presentation w capers, Bermuda onion, horseradish cream sauce & tender smokey trout– ask for toast points rather than the crackers, escargot — not in the shell but in a wine/garlic/butter sauce, & the gorgonzola salad– huge!, & when they offer it– the RI clam chowder is excellent. The interior is pleasant, long bar, decent acoustics. The service though can be really inconsistent/iffy. Sometimes it’s friendly & attentive, other times it’s practically rude. It’s a gamble so don’t say I didn’t give you a heads up ;)!

Oyster selection is outstanding!!! Worth every dollar(…or two or three). I mean, some of these things were huge! Juicy! If you order an assortment, you’ll be able to taste the difference between all the different types. Fine wine selection. Great service.

Not that good, I can’t believe they were voted best seafood in the area by some local paper, maybe the raw bar is better. If they don’t cook it, maybe they can’t mess it up that badly. Our hotel recommended this place, so we tried it. Clue #1, we were the only people in the restaurant at 5:30 on a Thursday. Even so, it took a good 20 minutes for a broiled oyster appetizer to make it out to the table. Appetizer #2, shrimp cocktail, never made it to the table, I guess the kitchen was too busy with all the other orders… oh, wait, that’s right, we were the only customers in the restaurant. Instead the waitress brought my husband a dish of coleslaw(the side for his fisherman’s platter) out with the oysters(??) I ordered the fresh fish of the day(bluefish) broiled. Verdict: oysters — small and overseasoned, bad; bluefish — fresh, cooked right but overseasoned with the same seasoning as the oysters, good veggie side, decent smashed potatoes. Fisherman’s platter — more grease than fish, should have come with asbestos napkins since it was one spark away from being a grease fire. At breakfast the next morning at another restaurant(picked from Unilocal this time) the woman waiting on us asked how our stay was, we mentioned Black Rock Oyster Bar and her face fell, she said«Oh, I’m sorry.» That said it all. How do you do seafood this bad when you are only a stone’s throw from the ocean?

I ordered the Lobster Po-Boy. It was nice. I had dinner here before. If you like fresh seafood this is the place. Thought it was kind of pricey. If you want raw clams and oysters this is your place. They say they are an aphrodisiac but I still can’t make make the connection. Ho well?
