Incredibly disappointing. Service was horrible. My son asked for 2 hard boiled eggs as part of his brunch dish which called for 2 eggs your way. He got poached eggs(which he despises). We called the waiter and told him this was not what we ordered. He said that’s all they had. Seriously. HOWHARDISITTOMAKE A HARDBOILEDEGG!!! Adding insult to injury my wife’s salad had a pear with the sticker still on it. So it’s anyone’s guess if they actually cleaned the pear before serving. Will never come back. Would not recommend it to anyone.(And in case you are wondering the remaining dishes were mediocre)

Great staff. Good food. Got the butter squash salad. Delicious, the bar was full so getting a seat there didn’t happen. Other than that nice environment. Will go back.

Amendment– brunch is amazing. I had the lobster omelette(TruNorth omelette) 3x now and it’s much more lobster I would ever expect. I love the bottomless brunch and the bartender who wears the vests is very very nice. I’ve also since had the fish tacos & salmon entrée both are stellar.

The staff is rude and really dont give a _____. The owner thinks he’s a celebrity and doesn’t care either. Watch your credit card as they will double charge you!!! I had to fight for a credit back. The food is so so. Plenty of other places to go in the area.

Dinner at Tru North is a must! The wait staff was attentive and friendly, the ambiance was inviting, and the food was divine! The lobster mac and cheese was beyond delicious, as was the pork tenderloin. The seared ahi tuna salad was the perfect portion, as was the rib eye steak. I highly recommend the apple empanadas for dessert; a MUST! Overall, a five star experience. Can’t wait to go back!

I really like TruNorth. It’s the best in the neighborhood. Pretty, comfortable décor. Friendly staff. The menu covers whatever you’re in the mood for and the food is just plain good. It’s my favorite for Sunday Brunch.

3 stars being a little generous. Took the family there this weekend. I would sum up the place(service and food) as mediocre. Kids dishes were decent size and tastier than the regular entrees. Daughter had mac and cheese, my son had the cheeseburger although it didn’t have any cheese on it. The restaurant does provide crayons for coloring. Entrees for my wife and I were prime rib and bass. I asked for my prime rib to be medium, it came out red. I asked for horseradish and got au jus. My wife didn’t eat her entrée as it was way too spicy. No mention of spicy in the menu. We were looking for our waiter every time we needed something(another drink, etc). Not an experience that makes me want to go back.

Massively disappointed. Great on the outside, potential when I walked in, nice atmosphere, but god awful food and cocktails. Also waaaaaay overpriced — think middle of nowhere bar attempting to serve veal and lobster and putting a $ 40 price tag on it, with some ranch dressing. It’s bad, and I truly wish it wasn’t. Also the staff looked unsatisfied too, that should have been a warning when I walked in.

We had dinner there last week but I was only moderately pleased. The staff and owner were very friendly and responsive. The food was fair and the place was bustling, bordering on being too noisy. By the time we left — around 8pm on a Friday — it was too loud and the patio where we were seated had several people standing around as if it was an extension of the bar. The beet salad was good, the prime rib was«fair» at best as it was rather tasteless and not that tender, even though served medium rare. Bread pudding was well done, although our table mate said it wasn’t as good as they expected. Dinner, with modest drinks, was $ 35 ea including tip. In general, this seems like the place to have drinks and simple food.

I’d give this restaurant 2.75 stars if that rating was allowed. I try to go back to a restaurant a few times before writing reviews, and brunch this morning is our third time back. Each time we’ve gone — once for dinner, once for drinks/apps and once for brunch, things have been«ok» but not great. The first time I ordered the Korean chicken bao, and my fiancé ordered a seaweed salad with sesame crusted tuna. My side salad(that came with the meal) was fresh and delicious — my fiancées salad(the MEAL itself) was practically pathetic: a wilted green handful of greens with a few strands of seaweed — and he Ordered a salad! However, to be fair, that was when they first opened, so I can cut them a break. Apps the second time around were yummy– no complaints other than maybe just lacking in original offerings. During brunch today, however, there were quite a few things that left me questioning, «why?». The staff didn’t seem to know much about the menu/offerings/etc and couldn’t answer many questions. The bloody Mary’s were sweet and not great tasting, though they allowed us to switch to mimosas which was nice. The coffee I ordered arrived with only 1⁄3 of the cup filled(…why?!), our fresh fruit side orders were forgotten about completely and never came. My pancakes were ok, the eggs just ok. I have high hopes for Tru North as a staple to the Black Rock neighborhood, but I sincerely think they need to review menu items for originality(this place is new– let’s be a little innovative!) and train their staff better to make things run more smoothly. With a few changes, Tru North will be a place I’d think of more often to frequent.

I like what they’re trying to do here and the cocktails looked delicious but honestly the food and the service fell seriously short. They need to iron out some of the kinks but I am hopeful! The menu was eh, so so. Nothing terrible unique. Our server was MIA throughout the meal and all in all was just an ineffectual bump on a log. Had the macaroni which was eh ok, mussels were good. We finished our food and waited another 20 minutes before anyone noticed, at which point I had to ask the busboy to try and find our waiter. We asked to see a dessert menu but he says there is no dessert menu and then proceeded to name things off the top of his head. We ordered a brownie sundae thing and chocolate mousse. The mousse was disgusting and old, it tasted terrible, the texture was very off. The brownie was gross, stale and flavorless. When we told him in the nicest way we could, he didn’t apologize and instead began arguing with me about it and then came back and said I was wrong and that he verified with the chef that the mousse had been made only one day earlier.. . No hospitality skills. He begrudgingly took the desserts off the bill but gave us such an attitude. I might go back to try a cocktail but I won’t leave the bar or order food.

Decided to give it a try this past week, here you go. Overall they did a nice job with the décor, love the bar area look and feel and once the warm weather comes, it will open up nicely. As always, will start with the drinks. The wine list was solid, the drink menu showed some creativity, and the bottled beer list was extensive and well thought out. Them only negative that was given the knowledge that was evident in those I already mentioned, how weak the beers on draught sections were. Poor choices in all categories of beer and cider, not nearly as attractive as what some of the bottles offerings were, which was too bad. We decided to skip the pints and order some glasses of wine instead. We ordered a few different plates to get a sense of what the potential was. Our side salad was just a pile of lettuce with a few cut cherry tomatoes tossed in, our soup was nice, but no bread was offered or brought to the table. The calamari salad was very generous with golden fried calamari a plenty and the pot stickers were nicely done as well. Overall, the place is ok, service was good, needs to work out a few kinks, but should be a solid addition to the Black Rock scene. Just get some better beers on draught, not just whoever is giving you cheap kegs.

The food is amazing and the portions for the entrees are huge. The owners’ other restaurants have great food as well so I wasn’t surprised. The shrimp appetizer is outstanding. The restaurant looks great. My only complaint is the bartenders were clueless with how to make drinks.

Ok for lunch or brunch dinner not so great. We both ordered 2 other fish dishes and the Mahi was over cooked and swordfish tasted like a frozen filet. No flavor. Décor is pretty, staff friendly but a lot of standing around because not a lot to do. Open kitchen outdoor seating. I would say ok for a bar night but skip dinner. Prices seem fair but menu pretty limited. Not my favorite Fairfield spot.

Plenty of potential, but not quite there. Came at the recommendation of a friend for drinks and dinner. At first glance of the menu, it seems promising… mussels and pork belly bao buns(which a redundant reference btw). So we started with the drinks. The bar offers some unique takes on holiday classics. While interesting, there’s a watered down feel to the drinks. I ordered the«New» Fashioned, I would have preferred the Old Fashioned. However, the drink menu selection is enough to bring me back to try others. We then ended up trying most of the appetizers on the menu, including a few specials. They were in a word, unimpressive! Here are a few examples: The mussels, while fresh and clean, were underwhelming in flavor. Pork Belly bao buns were surprisingly bland and over cooked. On the other hand the lobster sliders were actually pretty good; loaded with lobster and great flavor and texture. Griled Hanger steak were up to par, however somewhat overcooked(slightly tough and unflavorful). Lamb meatballs were good, but nothing special. In the interest of full disclosure, we actually did not try any of the entrees, decided instead to head down the street for the rest of dinner. Overall, this place didn’t meet my expectations, especially given the competition around in Fairfield and beyond. While I’m only giving this place three stars, it has a great deal of potential to be four or five stars. They do use quality and fresh ingredients, they just have to try not to kill it in the cooking process.

Was not impressed with the menu choices or the overall quality of the food. I am a former customer of Viale and I would recommend you add some of their menu items as well as their cook and waitresses. They were all great. They made the best zuppa de pesce in the area and I always looked forward to having it. Good luck going forward

Looks like the shine on this new spot is going to take awhile to wear off, do try to get there early or at an off time and you wont be disappointed! Went there within the first few weeks and they food a good job staffing as you didn’t seer that normal opening restaurant show down. Great beer selection. Let me repeat, GREAT beer selection. Variety on apps offered was perfect for our party and I got to admit, the spring rolls were great and not tired like some can be. It being a cold fall night I went with the braised short rib with the root vegetables and it couldn’t have been more perfect! I look forward to going back to taste the rest of the menu and don’t mind the wait as long as that beer list remains that good!

Went to TruNorth last week with friends and everyone loved their meals. I had the swordfish and it really was the best swordfish I’ve ever had. Great décor and while there aren’t many days left for out door meals they have a very cute little patio. We will go back here for sure.

This place is a very nice additional to the main street. It has a very nice selection of food items from a wide range of cuisines. The staff was very friendly and service was great. We had the duck wontons, the 4 cheese mac’n’cheese with mushrooms, the spicy chicken sandwich and the meatloaf. The mushrooms in the mac’n’cheese were great and all of the food items were very tasty and it is nice to have something new in Fairfield. One thing I wish is that they had more craft beers instead of all the main stream beers they had(goose island, blue point, palm, etc.). They should take after Craft 260 on their beer list(which is the only reason I would ever consider going to Craft over this place, since the food is way better here)

This restaurant is owned by the same people that own the Grey Goose in Southport(which I’ve been to many times) and the Spotted Horse in Westport(which I’ve never been to). This restaurant falls short of expectations if you’re expecting a Grey Goose type meal. I ordered the Beer Battered Fish Tacos, which had a weird taste to them, and a side salad. My meal came out with fries instead but I wasn’t too upset about it so I kept them. After eating them I wish I had asked for my salad because they were pretty soggy. The service was great! Overall I had an OK time and would go back, but I’m not dying to go back.

This is a fairly new place, only open a couple of months. A few of us decided to try it for dinner. It has an interesting décor, sparse and clean, but also warm and inviting. There aren’t a lot of ‘soft’ thinks to absorb sound, so even with a dining room les than half full it was rather loud. The menu will probably change as they figure out what their clients like, but for now it’s an eclectic mix of styles and ingredients. I don’t want to be negative, but looking at the menu gave me the feeling that they were trying hard to be divergent, but succeeded only in being like every one else. That being said, they did was great. I had the veal mushroom meatloaf… Served with whipped potatoes and onion gravy… amazing…hot as neck when served, and delicious. She had the salmon with lentils. I don’t like salmon, but it had a nice presentation and a the fish looked perfectly cooked. Our friends shared a few appetizers because they wanted more of a small plates experience… I only tasted the Creole shrimp any it was a perfect little dish… cooked just right and the sauce had that heat you expect from the delta… The waiter was actually the bartender. Nice guy, by I suspect his entire career had been behind the bar and never at a server. He didn’t seem to know how to ask us for our order, and his juggling 3 drinks in his hand was les than professional(tip: use a bar tray.) He also never asked if we wanted additional drinks or desert after our entrée… and then just dropped the check almost as if we were now in the way. If the place were packed I could understand needing to move us along, but half the tables were empty. I’m Gonna visit again in a few months… I’m curious how the menu and the staff evolve.

I really enjoyed my first experience at TruNorth Tavern and Table. The Barkeepers were knowledgeable with both spirits and wine. True«mixologists» — The owners and staff friendly and on top of their game. The menu is simple with something for everyone– no trouble navigating through it. I had the house specialty burger which was really good as well as the fried calamari, which was also quite tasty. Over the past 5 years or so, this area has become«burger competitive» for the American grille restaurant. This burger can compete! The only suggestion I would make is to offer a «choice of bun» with burger. We all love our different toppings, why not choice of bun? I enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back. Worth trying for anyone looking for a good meal that won’t break the bank.
