This is a cheerful little place that offers a few Caribbean selections and also American food such as burgers. I think they’re still staffing, so I’m pretty sure the sweet child who waited on me is the owner’s daughter. She was charming and efficient. They do need to get the kitchen cranking a bit faster if the want to be able to handle a crowd. The chicken roti I had was delicious – nice yellow curry(yes, it was a bit too salty), and no bones. I’ll definitely return to try the jerk seasoning.

Will Evanston ever reach a Jamaican restaurant saturation point? So far that doesn’t seem to be the case, which is good, because I like this addition to the Foster/Maple area. We were a party of 5 on a Saturday evening, but there were no problems being seated because there were no other diners. The space is large and airy. Our waitress was nice but a bit befuddled, however the owner came over several times to help out and answer our questions. I had the jerk chicken, which had a wonderful flavor with just the right blend of seasonings. The rice and beans and plantains were also good, but like the previous reviewer, one of our party complained that the curry was too salty. My wife enjoyed her chicken taco.(Is that Jamaican?) Overall, I think with some tweaking of the recipes and more training of the wait staff this would be a great new spot to check out.

I walked into Ocho Rios on a whim for dinner. The interior is brightly colored(in a somewhat unpleasant way), and there are 5 tables and 20 or so seats. The bf and I were the only sit-down patrons for the hour we were there, although a handful of people dropped by to pick up food. I ordered the Curry Chicken, and the bf ordered a Jerk Burger. Not only was the curry too salty, but the pieces of chicken I received had as much small bones as there was meat, and I spent most of my meal separating the two. The side of rice and beans which came with the curry was good, but the plantains were dry and under cooked. The jerk burger had a barely noticeable jerk flavor, which was disappointing. Overall the food wasn’t good, but it wasn’t expensive, either. In spite of the lackluster food, our server was sweet and attentive, and the good service is the only reason why this place is getting 3 stars instead of 2.
