The Big Dipper has become my go-to spot for lunch. They make awesome sandwiches(I am partial to the Bbq Beef or the Jalapeño Popper Bagel) and you can order them online ahead of time for a quick pick up. They have amazing house-made ice cream, too! They didn’t have any banana ice cream available tonight and I was craving a banana milkshake, so she offered to make a fresh banana milkshake with vanilla ice cream for me. Customer service doesn’t get any better than that. I also randomly found a $ 10 gift card in my to-go order once, thanking me for being such a great customer. You have got to check this place out!

One sunny afternoon in February I casually strolled into this fine establishment on my own. I sure did have a hankering for a sandwich. The lovely blonde behind the counter offered me some suggestions as I often need help making decisions. She made me the California club; #2 on the menu. Once she handed me the plastic sandwich basket, I knew this meal would be #1. I sat down with my dinner and admired the crisp bacon, perfectly portioned vegetables, and delicate spread of mayonnaise accompanied by classic turkey on hearty California sourdough. I consumed my mouth watering sandwich quite rapidly as I took in the vibrant colors and friendly atmosphere of the interior. After I finished ravishing my sandwich, I moved on to the ice cream. Once again, the delightful blonde assisted me in choosing a flavor, there are so many it is hard to pick just one, and I am nearly incapable of making good choices by myself. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to combine two flavors into a milkshake; coffee and chocolate. The darling staff member hand blended my shake and handed me the cup. I sat down to enjoy the frozen treat as I was nearly sweating with excitement. I sipped and slurped the dessert beverage and I was in heaven. The combination of the two home made flavors were perfect; as if Harry Styles flew down on a unicorn carrying a box of puppies to join me. Once I came up for air after my shake was complete, I bounced with glee out of the building. I have since returned to the establishment many times since then. Unfortunately for me, I no longer reside in the area and it saddens me to no end. All I want in life is to enjoy a good sandwich and a yummy coffee chocolate shake. I often have dreams about the flavors of all the ice creams. One day I will return and once again consume the culinary treasures this place creates. I hope you, too, can experience the same. Cheers.

Tried the pumpkin pie popsicle because I love everything pumpkin, but this was not good! It tasted like a raw pumpkin with no spices. I will definitely go back and try something different next time.

Perfect short stop on your way to or on the way back from Yosemite. We slowed down on our way back after we noticed the«handmade ice cream» sign outside. A quick check on Unilocal at the stop light before making a U turn. 4.5 stars and it was a definite GO! Has a good selection of home made ice cream and frozen yogurt… Chocolate does taste like real chocolate! They also have a good selection of sandwiches. Recommended stop by if you are in transiting through this place. P. S. Not sure why only Lonely and Sad people can eat ice cream. You can eat ice cream when you are happy too! You’ll know when you ready the signs and the menu

Passing thru on the way home and it was lunch time. Glad we stopped. A good variety of sandwiches ms they don’t go light on anything. I had The Italian on Ciabatta bread. Plenty of everything and the bread was fresh. Potato salad did not look nor taste like it came out of a bucket. It was fresh, just the right amount of mayonnaise, and seasoned perfectly. The guys got a Roast Beef and the Cali Turkey Club. Both were just as tasty. Of course someone had to get a Vanilla Malt and is smiling from ear to ear. If you are ever in Escalon, take a chance and stop by– it’s worth it just avoid the school lunch crowd at 12:30. The place was hopping but the staff did an amazing job keeping up.

We have only tried out the sandwiches, nachos, & Chilli dogs… so far so good! I would definitely recommend supporting this local shop if you want a quick lunch without a drive thru! I will add to my review after we try the frozen yogurt!

Always a nice time when we come here. From the healthier side of choices in their salads and sandwiches, to their good chilli, to their choices of ice cream in bowls, shakes, malts or freezes. And my wife loves the atmosphere.(also, there’s free WiFi)

Homemade ice cream? Yes please! Got the caramel pecan and it surely didn’t disappoint. If I’m ever in the area again, I want to try their berry sorbet! Looks so yummy!

The sandwiches were average, about as good as you’d expect from a grocery store deli… maybe it’s unfair to judge an ice cream shop only for it’s sandwiches but today that’s how the ice cream cookie crumbles.

Great little stop on the way back home from Yosemite… It is an ice cream shop with some sandwiches thrown in the mix. Very friendly staff. Nachos are your standard mix but they def hit the spot. Potato salad was creamier then I like but it had a diff dill flavor that was very good. On to the ice cream we ordered the XTREME coffee in waffle cone, peanut butter and jelly swirl frozen yogurt, and a banana ice cream Carmel pecan shake… Well I would have posted pics but I couldn’t put down the ice cream to take pics XTREME coffee was one of the best tasting versions… Not over powering and enough kick to taste the coffee The shake was amazing and so was the peanut butter and jelly swirl… Def recommend anyone passing by to stop and for a treat!!!

I would definitely stop here again on the way to Yosemite. The service was absolutely great. They took their time with every customer, but acknowledged the people waiting in line. You really felt like they appreciated your business! The ice cream itself is not mind-blowingly good, but our group enjoyed it. They make it themselves :) If you like coffee, then definitely get their coffee flavor as that was my favorite!
