Sendai Japanese Restaurant & Grill

Got here at 9:36 pm for bubble tea on Monday night when they are supposed to close at 10 pm. The worker locked the door and wouldn’t let me in. Very rude.

Their sushi is very delicious and tastes very fresh! My personal favorite is their spicy tuna roll. Sendai’s Japanese AND Korean cuisine are incomparable to any other restaurant’s. Their Korean bbq short ribs are marinated and cooked to perfection and are very tasty! Highly recommend :)

I was very impressed by this place considering its location. Sushi was very good and the price was not unreasonable. A nice quiet spot to enjoy some Japanese cuisine.

I was hesitant to try this place because of the location, I’ve seen a ton of places come and go in this little strip and assumed there was no way the fish could be fresh because there wasn’t enough customers to warrant the freshest sushi but I was wrong. I trusted all of the good reviews and following this place has and it was a smart move. I had a yellow tail roll and a tuna roll. Both were very fresh, decent sized rolls. For both rolls and a soda the total was $ 17 before tip. The place is small but clean and the staff is friendly. I was pleasantly surprised and will be going back to sample more of the diverse menu items.

Great sushi, great dumplings, great everything. Very fresh and the staff is very welcoming. I have been coming here since it was originally sushi express, but now it’s back and even better. My favorite is my spicy salmon roll w/​mango and my mom gets spicy crab with mango and spicy crab also on top. It’s a nice atmosphere, very calm and plays good music inside. They have special things like bubble tea, and it’s very yummy. Definitely the freshest sushi around if you haven’t already try this place out!!!

I used to come here all the time back when the place was Sushi Express, and boy, am I glad this place opened back up. Their sushi was on point, and you just can’t beat the freshness! I got their rolls with brown rice, and it is so hard to find a restaurant that can get the texture of the rice right — usually it’s too chewy or dry or hard, but not here.
Their shrimp tempura is also very good, with nice, big shrimps encased in just the right amount of breading. Oh, do yourself a favor and try their bubble teas: you’re welcome! My fave is the green tea bubble tea… It’s second to none… don’t leave without trying one!

Came here after a play date at Kids, Play and Tumble. The parking Lot is a bit tight. But hey it’s parking. The restaurant was nice and clean. I ordered the sushi roll lunch and chicken teriyaki for the kids. The food was great. My kids ate the whole meal and my rolls were good. My only gripe would be that the lunch menu is fairly expansive compared to other sushi places.

Based off positive reviews I decided to order take out from here the other night & it was pretty disappointing. I’m giving it three stars because this place might be substantially better to sit down & eat… Some food just isn’t meant to be taken to go.
First off we got shumai, gyoza, chicken yakitori and Kani salad. Shumai & gyoza were good. The Kani salad was not the best especially for the price tag of $ 8.95. The best thing was the chicken yakitori, very tender and good flavors.
We decided to get the bokumbop since other reviewers had raved about it. We were very disappointed. I felt like I paid $ 11.95 for a small dish of fried rice.
We also got bubble tea which was nothing like the bubble tea I’m used to. It was in the fridge before we picked it up and had the texture of a Dunkin donuts coolatta. It was still very good but not exactly bubble tea.
Overall I would say this place is overpriced & the food is only mediocre. I won’t be going back but the food could be better eaten on the premises and sushi might be a better route to try.

Great place, sushi is fresh and probably the best I had. Yakitori is wonderful. Chicken was tender melted in your mouth. I had the jersey roll. Was so satisfying and my bf had the chicken teriyaki bento box and a spicy tuna roll. Nothing bad to say here, owners are very nice to. I’ll be back

Been a fan for a few years, and the reopening does not disappoint. In fact, I think the Sushi and rest of the menu has gone up a click in quality, inventiveness, and freshness. The Bohkumbap, which we’ve tried at other restaurants, is wonderful. I’m a fan of the dragon offerings, and any of them is a home run. We were served their new creation, Tuna Martini, out of the park. Service, and presentation are great.
Sendai ranks up there with any of Sushi, Korean, Japanese restaurants which may have higher prices and/​or more regional exposure. A real find!

You owe it to yourself to eat here, if you haven’t, or return, if you haven’t since re-​opening. Regulars won’t be surprised with the great food and service still intact — maybe better — but those who haven’t had the chance to drop by yet, you will be happy you did.

The best Chicken Yakatori on this side of the Mississippi!!! They have a great variety, and the place is absolutely spotless!!! Definitely stop by if you are in Bergen County.

Would highly recommend this sushi place. I especially loved their signature roll, SenDai Roll. I also love how they have a wide variety of food choices including Korean dishes which are also delicious.

I have been a fan of this place for awhile now, both the service and the food are amazing.
They have the best bohkumbap dish in the area their portions are plentiful but the taste is what makes me order it every time. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great tasting well priced lunch or dinner.
