I have come here for many many years and food has ALWAYS been consistently good. I have read many of the other reviews and I am not sure what’s going on there. I typically order a #6, 1 cheese enchilada and 1 ground beef taco. This is one of the very few Mexican restaurants that I will order a cheese enchilada from. In my opinion, they are the best I have ever had. They also offer flour and corn tortilla chips. You have to ask for the flour. I have to agree that most of the time the place is mostly empty and sometimes doesn’t appear open from the outside. Most of the time the owner is working and is very nice and friendly. Years ago there was a very rude waitress that worked there, but I think she has since moved on.

Tasteless food. Waitress had a bit of an attitude. The chips were stale. We should have read the reviews first. Unhappy management creates an unhappy staff. Something going on here. Had to ask for our check, though no one else was here.

Great authentic Mexican Food. Good service GREAT margaritas. Gaucamole is melo and smooth. Chile Relleno are great. Cheese enchilada is great. Chips are ok. Dinner for two w one drink $ 45.00 Portions are good and prices are ok = $ 10.00 range per dines plate. Just don’t know if I’d come back or not when there are soooooo many other mexi restaurants to go to.

This is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. I always get the 2 item combo plate with a cheese enchilada and beef taco. beans & rice. The taco is always super crunchy and the enchilada sauce is to die. Haven’t been disappointed yet. comes out fresh & hot every time. As for the chips & salsa, the salsa could be a little more fresh, but flavor wise, it’s very good! I took away a star because service has been slow every time we have went even when there are maybe 2 other tables of people. But the waitresses are always all very nice. I will continue to be a regular here :)

This place is nicely decorated, big and have great Margaritas. However, they are lacking the very thing i go out for besides food & beverages. Customer service, oh boy did i have a list on this one. I felt like we were in an oven, so warm in there on a Sunday morning for breakfast. I had to pull hair up, and they didn’t even offer to turn on fans above. My friend finally got up and turned it on himself. Salsa was almost like out of a tomatoe can. The waitress had left her smile at home, and i believe her voice as well. I asked if we could have green chile on enchiladas instead of red chile sauce, her answer was a blank«NO». I don’t understand how you can’t pour green instead of red. Food was mediocre. Our whole experience was memorable and not because it was pleasant but rather a terrible one.

Love this place. I have been eating here since the 1990’s. Good service, great tasting food, at a good price.

First time here and it will be our last. Plain chips, one bowl of basic tomato salsa. After we finished he bowls, we didn’t get another until our dinner arrived. I ordered taco dinner: one chicken and one beef. Chicken was great but the beef was generic. Girlfriend ordered enchiladas especial, it only came with a single enchilada! For $ 11! The pork was supposed to have chile verde, but there wasn’t much flavor to it at all. The refills were scarce and by that I mean I got one after I asked for it. We printed an online coupon from (these come in the mail every month) and the server acted like we made an illegal photo copy of the coupon. No, it’s just on the website available for everybody to see. Don’t waste your time with this place folks which is a shame because we LOVE Mexican food and supporting small business.

I’ve been coming to this place for over 15 years. Took a few years off as I wasn’t in town. I’ve never seen a restaurant take such a dive. The food is terrible as was the service. Even when I told our worthless waitress that the food was not up to par, she accused me of just trying to get a discount. I didn’t even ask for one. If that’s how they treat people, then I’m glad no one goes here anymore. Don’t waste your time or money. This place stinks.

Been here a couple times. The Best Friend is absolutely in live with this place. We’ve always been seated quickly and brought fresh chips and salsa while we decide. I think it’s La Fuente’s mission to employ the sweetest and most adorable women they can find as their servers. It’s like having your own Spanish speaking abuelita serve you in her own home! We’ve had the nachos, chimichanga, and literally giant burritos so far, and they’ve all been good. The only things I took a star away for is the somewhat odd layout of the restaurant(although I’m not sure they have much control over that) and the fact that they close really early. 8 pm. Ok, so it’s not REALLY early, but most places at least stay open until 9… I honestly wouldn’t care if we didn’t find ourselves craving Mexican food at around 8:15 so often.

Me and my girlfriend ate here and it was a HORRIBLE experience !! I ordered two carne asada tacos(not authentic at all it came with lettuce and NOSALSA. Not to mention the tortilla(s) were huge and hard as a rock) the meat had no flavor it tasted as if it had been sitting out all night and they just warmed it up. My girlfriend ordered a beef quesadilla, extremely oily and the beef tasted like dog food. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Bad experience.

Terrible food. I ordered steak tacos. Got MAYBE ¼ cup of tiny diced tough beef on raw corn tortilla with half a head of lettuce. and an entire cilantro plant. No tomatoes, no onions, no tasty sauce. Lunch companion ordered fish tacos with same — raw corn tortillas and too much lettuce and cilantro. She said the fish was tilapia, and tasted bad, poor quality. Rice-dry. Beans-good canned beans you can get at grocery store for .69 cents a can. We ordered soft drinks. No alcohol and bill came to $ 27.00. Crazy bad food at an unreasonable price. In the pics above the chips and salsa do not look like that. The bowl of chips minuscule, the salsa from a jar, and also a tiny portion. I am guessing their business is all about the bar/alcohol because the food is terrible

My husband and I had dinner here for the first time on a date night, which we’re lucky if we get once a month. The place was near empty when we walked in, two tables in the front room and one table in the back room were occupied. We were seated right away by an older lady. She was terse, but gave us water promptly. There was no drink menu on the table and no one manning the bar; a little disappointing, so we had a margarita free night… not a deal breaker. The atmosphere wasn’t bad, actually kind of cute for a hole in the wall joint, although dated and screams 90’s…also not a deal breaker(we loved the 90’s). We both ordered an enchilada style burrito. I got the chili Colorado and my DH got the pork. My beef wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either, and it could have been way more tender as chili Colorado should be. The sauce was bland. My DH burrito also lacked flavor. His didn’t have as much meat in it as mine did and was a tad bit more bland. The lady who brought out the food was polite, smiled and seemed happy. The waitress never bothered to ask us if our food was alright or if we needed more water or chips and salsa. My DH finally flagged her down on the second attempt to request these things. She otherwise appeared to be ignoring us. But who knows, maybe she was just having a bad day. To wrap this up, I wouldn’t recommend this place and we won’t be coming back.

Delicious food and very friendly service. I get the burrito enchilada style with ground beef and it’s delicious. My new favorite Mexican place in the area.

1. Over priced. As I was scanning the menu I noticed how incredibly over priced their selections were. For an appetizer, regular(just cheese –no meat) quesadilla that came with a small side of sour cream(think a tsp scoop) and 1 slice of a tomato with few shreddings of lettuce(no guacamole) came out to be $ 7.95. Taco Bell would have been a better and more reasonable choice. 2. Chips were stale. Salsa tasted like Pace picante. 3. $ 5.95 for a small margarita. More like a virgin margarita and yes, tasted like Jose Curveo pre-mix. No happy hour durning the weekday. But on the weekend? From 3 – 6. Bottom line. Way over priced for their quality of food and a margarita should be made by hand with tequila in it. Read your reviews and listen to your customers! Too many other choices near by. Thank you.

Not very good. Watery salsa. Average service. Hardly anyone there for a Friday night which should have been the clue.

Chips are not fresh but are ok. Salsa is odd, doesn’t seem like jalapeño so I asked what the heat was, waitress said«mexican». I ordered the shredded beef wet burrito. It was fine, just not great. The beef was very bland. I think the guacamole was just avocado with no spices. This place just is what it is. It’s like every mexican restaurant from the 70’s/80’s. A plop of refried beans, a plop of mushy rice, and a bland main dish. Add in a 19″ TV/VCR combo on the wall and there you have it.

The food was pretty good, a little pricey and nothing special. I went there for breakfast, I was fairly pleased overall but nothing stood out that makes me want to return.

Simply terrific! All these years I was traveling outside Elk Grove to find good mexican food and right under my nose was this wonderful place. I think it may be family run. Excellent, quick service always. The food is hot, fresh, and always mouth watering. Great salsa and chips too!

We have been coming here for over 20 years on and off, but had not been in for about six months. I hate to say it has really gone down hill. It was a Sat night at 8:00PM and the fact that was only one other table occupied should have been a tipoff that there was a problem. The salsa was OK, but chips were stale… not just a little but VERY stale. When we told the server the problem, no apology was offered and while the second bowel tasted OK, they were soft rather than crispy. We both had Margaritas and I have to say it was the worst I have EVER had; made from a cheap mix and I would swear it was a «virgin Rita». I had the chicken Gran Burrito and while very large it was almost tasteless. I had to really look for the chicken and even eaten alone, it was totally tasteless and looked to be from a bag of preshredded meat. The menu said it was with guacamole and tomato — technically correct if one tablespoon of guac and two small pieces of tomato qualify. My wife’s bistec’s flavor came only from the onions and peppers. It looked good, but was only average at best. They seem to be trapped in a downward spiral. Cutting corners to save money results in poor food. Poor food loses customers and revenue which results in further cuts and so on. This used to be a great place. I am sorry to say we won’t be going back.

Came here with the boyfriend and his family for a late dinner. The food was good, but nothing amazing. I always order chili relleno when I go to a new Mexican restaurant to kind of test the waters, and this one really disappointed. The staff was friendly and the restaurant clean. I would return here.
