Great staff, generous drinks and drink specials, heated smoking room out on the patio, warm and cozy fireplace… doesn’t matter if you’re gay, straight, black, yellow, purple or green. Where what you want, be who you are and just have fun. I went to Hunter’s years ago and the impressive improvements to this place as Phoenix were well thought out.

Visit on Tues Aug 4th2015. .. I had not been here in over 10 years. My friends and I were pleased to see a clean and well kept bar area on the patio. The music was nice, a bit of everything, pop, rap, rock, and country. The dance floor was cool with all the LED lights, we did a bit of dancing. I have to admit that the best part of the evening was the staff. Shawn the bartender was phenomenal. When I’m being served, I want to see the employees happy and enthusiastic. Shawn had a wonderful smile and was very charming and welcoming. I like the fact that he loves his job, and that shows me I am going to receive the best service possible. A special thanks to Sam, Ian and Jay for all their help too last night. We will be back soon :-)

Seriously? This is such a comfortable gay bar and the bartenders are all very friendly and helpful. Weekends here are a blast, whether just wallflowering or dancing and drinking.

Are you kidding me? Me and my boyfriend have been all over the world, this Phoenix night club is one of a kind! Clean and upbeat environment, nice bar tender Keith I think his name is, tall, glasses«American guy» so funny and coffee drinker, very sophisticated looking place, monitors all over, CLEAN and NICE bathrooms, in a very small commercial town. I am just impressed, I will definitely come back in the future after tonight.

What an awesome feel good time! The staff is incredible! The space is clean. It’s a feel good space for the suburban gay life. There’s not a lot to do in the suburbs for the lgbtq community. This space is great for all walks of life and makes you feel comfortable and accepted. The outdoor space is great all year round. They have great themed nights. Karaōke Monday’s, dollar drink Tuesday’s, Latin Sunday’s, the dancers are great! It’s a great place to escape the city on those busy pompous nights, great place where you feel welcome everyday of the week/weekend.

I started coming to this bar under its previous name and enjoyed the atmosphere so much I continue to come back. I have made a lot of really nice friends here, being 35 I am in the middle of the road so I have met older gents, younger dudes, and many really nice trans folk. I really just go there to be myself, and to hang out with my friends. I have never had any issues with anyone other then random uppity customers that act like they are gods gift. I am glad certain folks stay away leaves the rest of us with a good time. The dance floor is the bomb! Great room and great folks to dance with. The staff there is amazing. I absolutely love Grandma, Sean, Jason, Chris, Jake and Russ. If you want a drink made right see them. I get really great interaction with the bar tenders and door guys, and they make you feel like a friend not a number. They make you want to come back. Even when its busy I have no problem waiting my turn for a beverage knowing it will be made well and at a the price I think it should be. The security there is wonderful. I love Door Bear Steve. I met him a while ago when I was having an issue with someone who needed to be talked to who was to drunk and he fixed it right away, called the guy a cab and made sure he got in it safe. The rest of the security at the front ensures when we leave we are well taken care of, and go out of their way to ensure the parking lot is safe and secure. I often see them doing random walk throughs in the bar and out side. Its nice to know that I can go enjoy myself with my friends in a safe environment. That is very important to me, considering I have been to other bars in the city where crap was taken from my car. I appreciate this place, the people and the atmosphere.

This bar was previously named Hunter’s & had been around for around 30 years before being sold to the owners of Phoenix Bar in 2013. I frequented Hunter’s for 10+ years, often 2 – 3 Fridays or Saturdays a month in the bar’s final years. I also frequent Phoenix Bar a couple of times every month. Many of the same employees have been around for years & are maintaining that same«Hunter’s feel» that patrons have loved for decades. The club’s appeal is & was this: 1. It’s the only gay bar in the suburbs. 2. You can avoid the city. 3. It’s huge inside. 4. It has the largest dancefloor I’ve been on. 5. All are welcome: age, gender, size, race. 6. Parking is abundant. 7. The music can be very good. Earlier this year, Phoenix Bar turned its dancefloor into a giant LED screen. It’s very cool, but wasn’t necessary because I already enjoyed the place. That said, I’ve seen some of the LED tiles pop up & even break. It seems to have gotten better in recent months, but I’m always a little careful on how I step. I don’t drink, so I can’t speak to the quality, price or service. However, the guys at the entrance are always welcoming & there appears to be plenty of servers walking around to take drink orders. The outdoor beer garden is a great place to cool down from a night of dancing or spend the entire evening. It’s large enough & has its own bar. They also have an area with a pool table & I believe darts, a fireplace in the winter & a decent sized area with another bar that can be closed off for private parties. That’s a total of 3 bars. I would probably give Phoenix Bar 5 stars if it played better music. They can be heavy on Hip Hop & Latin style artists on any given night. I tend to leave there wanting more undiscovered or mainstream pop, dance, electronic, or even classic hits. You know, gay music! Some nights the music is spot on. However, it’s hit or miss & has nothing to do with who the DJ on any given night. If you want a friendly place where you can dance like nobody’s watching & have a great time, check out Phoenix Bar.

I went here a month ago on a Thursday to have a few drinks and dance, except no one was dancing but this oneee dude with his shirt off going hard lol, after a few drinks I joined him a some more people came out, I had a good time but There seemed to be a lot of older guys and tyrannies Which everyone on Unilocal failed to mention. There’s another bar connected to the back which is outside so you can smoke and chill which I thought was cool. Music is okkk.

I’ve been coming here semi-regularly since they reopened from being Hunters. It’s very similar, but the new owners have definitely spruced the place up, especially with the new dance floor. The bartenders are all fantastic, and the patio looks awesome now that they’ve redecorated. Monday night karaōke is fun and comfortable, the weekends after 11 is when it really gets busy. Stop in for a quick drink after work or with a group of friends to enjoy drinks at the patio bar!

Was OK. Almost like Hunters with some changes. Employees some are friendly and some are unfriendly. LED floor is cool like the gay bar I been to Kentucky. OK place to go just to meet friends for a drink. Still slow on Fridays and Saturday half parking lot empty better off going to city. Not bad if your in the area and have no place to go after having a drink if you live near by. Not worth staying at hotel near by if you plan to go here unless you are visiting someone in the area. We have fun more in city.

New Year’s Eve Party was awesome! I was truly impressed with everything! It was my first time since Phoenix Bar took over Hunters Night Club! The dance floor lit up I felt as if I was in a club in Las Vegas but for A fraction of the $ Las Vegas style clubs charge! Everyone who works there did a fab job, from bar tenders to the Dj I was highly entertained! The price for drinks very reasonable and the food catered was deliciously awesome! Thank you I chose the right place for New Year’s Eve

Came here for NYE… one of the busiest nights of the year… Bar only plowed half of their parking lot and I got stuck in one of their snow banks midway. Getting staff to help me was like pulling teeth. I have a front wheel drive car and one of the doormen decided to shovel all the snow away from the front of my tires. What good that did? No clue. He spent 5min trying to help and then said I needed to call a Tow Truck. 10+ years of dedication and that’s all the assistance I can get? So here I am 1AM New Years Day waiting for Road Side Assistance. What a horrible night. Never Again!!!

great new and improved bar, clean and fresh new look, awesome new LED dance floor that will make you want to stay on the floor all night, awesome staff still slings drinks at city prices but still good drinks. I live in the city and always make it a point to come here a couple times a month to enjoy a change!

From the minds that brought you Progress Bar in Chi-town(3359 N. Halsted St.) comes a new gay bar and dance club experience. What was once Hunters, a common hang out for the gay suburban scene; Phoenix now exists. So far the changes and upgrades are a great improvement, with it’s comfortable lounge, pool table, and back patio including outdoor bar(which is closed during the cooler months) being the first to see updates with others improvements to come. Including a 70,000 $ LED dance floor, much like the one the musical artist Beyonce performed on a few years ago during the Superbowl half-time show and more changes to the interior finishes and outside façade. If you’re tired of dealing with over crowded Chicago clubs then venturing 30 – 40 mins outside the city for a fun evening may be what you’re looking for. Located in Elk Grove Village, just a few mins from O’hare, Phoenix is prime real estate for a great club as long as the owners continue to give it the attention it deserves. Don’t let the burbs fool you, the club fills up nicely on weekends, and still gives you plenty of room to shake you tail feathers. The only downside so far; prices have increased a bit… but I guess this is to be expected considering new ownership and the investment they are making to the club itself. Don’t worry after a few rounds, you’ll forget all about the changes as they aren’t to over the top. That being said; if you’ve enjoyed Hunters then you’ll enjoy Phoenix. Your favorite bartenders and shot boys are still running around eager to help you enjoy your night. The patroons are slowly changing to a mix of both new city folk and regular suburbanites as more become aware of the bar itself and the changes that have been made thus far.
