Quaint and Cozy historic home with a delicious restaurant inside. Bread basket was such a delight! We are crab dib and the«small» size Chicken Ashley and Shrimp and Grits. Very very good! The hardest part was deciding what to eat.

Food and atmosphere was good but the music not so much. U would expect maybe romantic old country, or jazz but instead u get Journey 80’s music. It kind of killed the romantic vibe.

My wife and I love this place. We have young children and only get out about once a month and we almost always spend our evening at Montero’s. Staff is very polite and owners walk around visiting customers. Great touch. Food is amazing and very reasonably priced.

When you venture out to Elizabeth City, you’ll notice that there isn’t much to do or where to go, but you must absolutely stop by Montero’s. If you are looking to find a place that feels like home with great people, tasty food, and a relaxed atmosphere, Montero’s is the place to go. The menu has a wide array of food from steak, to chick, to fish and it’s been a pretty good fare. One must-order on the menu is the buffalo chicken dip appetizer dish. You may not find yourself out in Elizabeth City, but if you do end up out there, be sure to stop by this place.

I came here twice during my stay in the area for work. The first time I was here I was alone and sat at the bar and the second time I came here I was with co-workers and sat in the bar area. The service was consistently good both times and the prices are decent. They have a few local beers on tap along with a full bar and coffee bar. The bread basket is fun and unique in the respect that you get mini muffins along with sliced bread. The first night I ordered Shrimp and Grits. I ordered it spicy. When the dish came out I tried the grits and they were ok but didn’t get that smoked gouda flavor I was hoping for. The shrimp was good but not seasoned at all but the broth was amazing and that is where the spice came in. Once I mixed it all together it tasted pretty nice and blended well together. The second night I decided on the Delmonico steak. I ordered it blackend and they delivered it perfectly. The creamed spinach was tasty along with the loaded baked potato. I am going to be in the area again so I will definitely be back, but will probably also try some new places in the area to expand my experience.

This is one of the best places to eat in E. City! The food is great, we love the atmosphere, and even the owner stopped to talk to us while we were there and is very down to earth! I love that this is a family run business, and the food is always amazing!

My kids and I had dinner here when stopped for the night on vacation. The food and service were both fantastic. The kids menu provided plenty of choices to satisfy my picky eaters. I really liked the smaller portions available for most dishes, and pricing was quite reasonable. If we lived nearby, we would definitely be frequent customers.

WOW. We walked in and was seated within 20 minutes. the server greeted us quickly and very pleasant. We ordered an sampler app. and it’s a meal in its self. Wife got a half order of fish taco, our child had cheese pizza, and I had fresh tuna. All meals where perfectly done, and out of this world good. We will be back on our next trip and every year afterward.

I am giving it 1 star because I believe there is a good place to eat somewhere there. The quality seemed like it was good but for a Friday dinner service they really didn’t have their A game. We felt pressured and rushed for drink and appetizer orders we didn’t have a chance to read the menu. My wife and mom ordered asparagus soup which the quality was good and tasty but cold 2 bowls both cold on a Friday night ?? How does that happen? The ribs tasted good again not piping hot as you would expect. We had orders the goat cheese salad and the goat cheese was not nearly enough for the size and price of the salad. Menu had avocado requested the add on not available… I ordered the big prime rib rare as usual but again it was served room temperature to cold not anywhere near the temperature I would expect a prime rib of $ 28 to be served. I feel«chef mike» is doing most of the cooking the place seems to have good flavor and recipes but it’s seems all pre made not cooked to order and portions of the goodies such as the goat cheese need to be increased as well. I can’t really recommend this place with good conscience considering they should have had their A game on especially for a Friday night

O M G! I think I’m too old to really be saying omg but this place is well worth it. My wife and I were driving home from a visit with Lynne P, an avid Unilocaler. She gave us a couple of suggestions based on a short list and you know, I initially did not listen and made an attempt to eat somewhere on the water front. After a couple of failed attempts to find parking for that establishment, we made the decision to head on over to Montero’s. Just a quick update to the GPS and we were on our way. We pulled into the parking lot of this place and had to wonder if my GPS took me to a car lot instead of a restaurant. I could not believe the number of cars and had me second guessing my decision. Casting my fears aside, we parked and took a beautifully landscaped stroll up to the front door. Greeted by a very nice hostess, we were told it would be around a 25 minute wait. 25 was really more like 40 but I was with good company and was in no rush to go anywhere. We were seated in a lovely room that was part of a 1904 home. We were engulfed in the charm of this room while taking in the chatter of the people around us. We were seated next to what appeared to be one of the most popular people in the town because everyone knew him. Come to find out, he was a local business owner that was enjoying brunch just like us. We get the well appointed menus that included way too many awesome options. I start with an app that I get whenever I see it called lumpia. Shocked to see the app, I started to get excited for the rest of the meal. We also ordered a fried goat cheese that is also a favorite of ours. Both apps were fan-stinking-tastic. The goat cheese immediately took my wife and I back to a goat cheese lady at a favorite farmers market of ours. Fresh and light. I ended up getting a waffle while my wife gets a pimento cheese and bacon omelette. The waffle was light, sweet and quite flavorful when I topped it off with fresh strawberries and whip cream. Can’t go wrong with that combo. I also got an order of bacon and sausage links that were plump and juicy. The omelette was smothered in pimento cheese with bacon trying to break out of the side of the omelette. I don’t even like pimento cheese and thought about giving that a try. She also got a side of fresh fruit which was just that, fresh. Seemed to have all the sweet fruits to include some raspberries, black berries and other assorted fruit. The food was awesome and there were a number of other items left to try. I can’t wait to get back here and try the other 20 something meals that sounded great(50⁄50 burger is next. 50% beef and 50% bacon. Really!) Make sure you add this to your list of must go to places to try.

Inconsistent. Can be exceptionally good, or disappointingly inadequate. I once asked the owner if my steak was going to be great as it previously had been or if it was not, as I had heard from some complain. He said it would be great, and were I him that would have been a superb steak, since the conversation was in front of our large party. My Medium Rare was Well Done and tough. How much incentive did he need?

Best shrimp and grits ever. The apple pork chops and ribs are also awesome. Finest restaurant in E City. We always go here for special occasions. The owner Andy is almost always on site. He often is around to talk and he takes great care in bettering his community. Did I say that the shrimp and grits are awesome?

Excellent meal! Andy and Karin(the owners) have a wonderful restaurant. The food was excellent, the ambiance was great, and the service from Shaye was friendly and efficient. What else could you ask for?! My wife has food allergies and they were very accommodating. I tried her meal, and even with the required modifications, it was delicious. They offer reduced portions at reduced prices, and my meal was excellently prepared, very tasty, and the perfect size. The variety and tastes in the bread basket, with all items prepared onsite, was unmatched.

Monteros is good… I wouldn’t go as far to say great. We got take out dinner, which of course isnt going to be nearly as good as fresh off the grill in house. But, I would venture to guess that the service makes up for what the food lacks. The atmosphere was great when we picked up our food, and the bartender who fufilled our order and rang us up was amazingly outgoing and friendly. I am going to be back and try the full experience but wouldnt say its the best it could be. Its the best restaurant in this small town. **Update, we went to sit down dinner here, and despite making a reservation, it took the hostesses 20 minutes to seat five of us — without any explaination as to what the delay was. Once seated, our server was very friendly and took our orders quickly(though I think she had a lot of tables). My sister ordered a drink off the menu(fuzzy navel) and our drinks were very delayed because the bartender that evening«had to figure out how to make it.» Food again was good, I had the steak — delicious!

Montero’s catered or wedding a few years ago and it was so amazing. Andy created a special menu just for us based on what we wanted. We had a grits bar! The shrimp and grits here is out of this world. We come here a few times a year since it is an hour away but worth the drive. We usually do a bike ride before hand and come in in our workout gear with no issues with attire. Everything on the menu and the specials are all delicious. Definitely make the trip!

Came back to Monteros the next morning after dinner for brunch, that’s right, less than 24 hours later, I found myself back here again. I had the«crunchy» French toast which is a total of two multigrain pieces of toast coated in egg white and corn flakes. As my two sides I chose fresh fruit and turkey sausage. The«healthier» version of French toast(not sure where carbs and cornflakes rank on health professional’s list of healthy food items, but I’m sure they’re not that high). The syrup is served on the side, I liked this because I really enjoyed dipping the French toast pieces. The French toast was great, lots of crispy consistency here, so do not get this if you are in the mood for a classic gooey piping hot French toast because this is far from that. The turkey sausage was great and legit hearty turkey patties, they could have passed for turkey slider patties, delicious! The fruit platter was a great light meal capper(included cantaloupe, pineapple, grapes, and one strawberry half). The bread basket included the same small loaf of pumpernickel and sourdough, but with more mini sweet muffins. The muffins in this basket were banana but, lemon cranberry, lemon poppyseed, and blueberry. I had a bite of the uncle Benny that my mom ordered and if you like the saltiness of cream chip beef, you would like this dish because it was SALTY. I am not a fan of too much salt at all, so this dish was not enjoyable to me. I had a piece of bacon which was crispy and succulent. The grits were creamy and dense just as a great order of southern grits should be. Brunch, dinner, lunch. My gosh, Monteros has covered it all and I can’t get enough!
