Original Red Dirt Shirts

Go ahead and shop around Kauai but this funky, old store has EVERYthing you’d ever want for Hawaiian souvenirs and clothing. Prices are incredibly low and the quality is very good to great! My daughter wanted to buy something for all her friends and their kids but never thought she’d ever be able to afford it. It was easy at this store! I love rayon shirts and dresses rather than cotton although they are usually 3 times the price. Not here! I found something for my husband and myself for ¹⁄₃ the cost of any of the many other places I’d gone.
Hilo Hatty’s is right across the street but you’ll get a better selection at FAR lower prices at this Dirt Shirt shop (I hate the dirt shirts but honest didn’t see any here – LOL!) They even have Hawaiian luggage and carry-​ons that are wonderful and SO inexpensive!
Go here first! You won’t be sorry

Stopped here because we saw their story on Dirty Jobs. Needed some Kauai shirts to take back anyway. Now we know the story behind them. People were very friendly.

If you come to Kauai, you gotta get a red dirt t-​shirt. After our excursion at Salt Pond Beach, we stopped by the factory to pick up some shirts. You are not going to get a real bargain here, but the variety of shirts is huge, and the service is friendly and efficient.

This is our third time purchasing shirts from the Original Red Dirt Shirt Company! The last time we visited they were kitty corner to Hilo Hatties, but they closed that location down and are now in Eleele, Hawaii at their factory outlet.
This is not a mainland store so be prepared for a little kitschy experience. Remember… you’re in Kauai and everything is a bit different here.
Got to see where the shirts are made, talked to the guy who actually makes them, had some shaved ice and even both myself an original Mike Rowe/​Dirty Jobs Red Dirt Shirt! Totally cool. Also, I was able to finally replace my blue lava shirt. I literally wore my other one out… still have it, but it has tons of holes in it. Now I just wear it around the house to sleep in or clean.
We probably could have bought the shirts cheaper elsewhere, but who cares… we like to support the local businesses when we are in the area.
They gave us shaved ice and I had a private place to try on the shirts. I will definitely purchase from them again.
BTW…for those of you who rated this place poorly… there’s a brewery pub next store. Go have a cold one and relax.

Cool spot. Self-​guided tour of the factory, free shave ice, watched the Dirty Jobs episode, and huge discount. Staff was super friendly.

What do you expect when you visit the FACTORY OUTLET STORE (that’s what the front of the main store says — see photo)? Probably some discounts. Certainly best selection — after all, this is the Factory. Maybe a chance to see how the shirts are made? Wow, maybe Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs will be there filming another show.
How about NONE OF THE ABOVE. And add miserable Customer Service to the list.
We had a goal of buying Red Dirt Shirts for all 7 of our grandkids. We saw the shirts at several other retail stores around the island, but kept saying, «Let’s Wait — we will go to the Factory Outlet Store and get them there. Big mistake!
Several other retail outlets had the Red Dirt Shirts (The Real Ones, not the knock-​offs) for lower prices than the Outlet Store in Eleele. Many had a better selection than the Outlet Store. And EVERY ONE had better Customer Service.
If you’re bound and determined to buy Red Dirt Shirts, forget about the Outlet Store. Try Hee Fat General Store in Kapaa — and have an incredible Shave Ice while you’re at it!

Washed it for the first time. As instructed, use mild detergent and cold water. There were spots and streaks everywhere. I recommend first couple of washes to not use detergent. What a waste of money!!!

Loved this store– lots to choose from, good salespeople, and a good location too. We have enjoyed the gifts we bought here, and expect to for a long time to come!

I love me a discount! They have discounted shirts for $ 8,$ 10 here because this is the Factory Store. You can see them making their shirts across the way. I remember seeing this place on Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe, and thought I would love to go there some day. My day came and even got a Mike Rowe dirt shirt! They have other shirts at regular price as well from $ 20 to $ 30.
