I looked this place up on here and decided to give it a try… Well when I walked in with my family there were five employees standing in the front not one of them said anything to us… I then asked if I can sit they said I had to order first but no one took my order… When we did get our food it was cold and it was not the best tasting… I will not be returning…

Love the food. i wish they had someone who speaks english when u call in the order. .several times i called i was placed on hold and hung up on but the worst was when i came in to pick it up some 20 something claiming to be a manager tried to adress the issue. .3 people i spoke to not one said im sorry or apologized for the situation. i literally had to ask for it and got it with an attitude.“manager’s” excuse was she wasn’t the ine to pick up tge phone and they get busy sometimes. learn manners or basic customer service if u want my business in the future.

I had the menudo and it was delicious! The servers were kind of all over the place and we weren’t acknowledged when we walked it. The food took awhile to come out as well. Other than the service, the food was great, making up for it. If you need a quick pick for this area, this is a good choice!

Affordable and authentic, what more could you want? The waitresses are also very friendly and attentive. I am obssesed with the flautas from this place. I believe they’re the traditional flautas? They are the ones that come with the sour cream, cheese, and avocado already thrown on top. So so unhealthy but I can’t resist. The gorditas are good too. I’m not a huge ground beef fan so I usually get mine with avocado or shredded beef. For the most part, the sides of rice and beans are always a hit. I love the salsa as well it is always spicy. Some may complain but I can handle my chile, haha!

After reading so many positive reviews, I had higher hopes for this place. There were only three tables occupied, yet the restaurant was dirty. The gal who took our order was not friendly(could be she was having a bad day or just was tired). Anyway, my husband and I shared the chicken nachos and we were surprised that they do not use fresh ingredients. Rather, they use CANNED cheese and CANNED jalapeños! This is not a place we would recommend or return to.

Friendly service with a smile. Category 2 machaca. That’s not a rating, it’s a style. My preferred category 1 is smothered in melted queso sauce. This was the other style. My wife liked it well enough. I thought the beans and potatoes lacked flavor. The menudo is on par with most other places– better than some, not as good as others. I like it as well as Lucy’s but less than Good Luck. No complaints. Be warned: the salsa is the hottest I’ve had in a long time. I like it that way but many may find it hard to handle. I will probably never wake up some morning and rush down here for breakfast. But I will certainly drop in whenever I’m in the area.

The gorditas was delicious. Got the chicken, shredded beef and avocado gorditas. The avocado one was more like guacamole mix instead of fresh avocados. My only compliant is that the gorditas wasn’t hot enough. I remember eating at Delicious Mexican Eatery on other side of town, their gorditas came out pipping hot! The menudo was very good as well. The hominy was very well cooked and the beef stomach was tendered with no dirty smell. The soup was not hot enough for me, and the server had no problem at all heating it up for me. A few minutes later, viola~~~the menudo was great! Given the location of this place, I dunno if I will go out my way to come here. But if ever in the neighborhood and craving for gorditas or good bowl of menudo, I would for sure come here again.

Yay! I’m a fan. I’ve been going to Jj’s with my family since I was a kid. If you are looking for gorditas on the west side, then look no further. Their gorditas are pretty darn authentic and delicious to say the least. Their menu is chuck-full of all the Mexican goodies that one would come to expect. However, I wouldn’t stray from the gorditas unless you were feeling rather adventuress as the rest of the selection borders on the line of «meh». Jj’s is a total whole in the wall but I think its definitely worth trying!

Absolutely delicious. Had the gordita, enchilada, and chili relleno dinner — yum E! Great atmosphere, good service, great meal. Had chicken enchilada with verde sauce — the green chilies gave it just the right kick and the enchilada was delicious. Wanted another gordita — first time my wife ever tasted one and she was wanting more. Rice and beans were a tasty side. The salsa that came with the tortilla chips — good and surprisingly hot, and just the right amount — you want to save space in the tummy for the good stuff and it is GOOD! Will be back!

This a great neighborhood Homestyle place. I personally tried their traditional flautas and they are delicious, but they claim they are famous for their gorditas. A big thumbs up. Ah, and the place was friendly and clean.

Went and picked up gordita meals for the office. They were even better than I remembered, still fantastic, not too doughy, great meal overall!!! The entire office loved them, will be going back again soon.

On a family road trip, we found JJ’s via Unilocal.Great place, clean, spacious, and good service. They are known for their Gorditas and we were not disappointed. Very good. We also tried an enchilada and a chile relleno. Both were wonderful. This is a good spot and definitely worth a try.

I come to El Paso on business and was told about this little place by another hotel guest where I am staying. I was told it is a local favorite. The salsa is a tad hot but the rest of the food is wonderful and not overwhelmingly heavy like a lot of places I’ve gone. Gorditas are great and they are petite so you can customize type order according to how much you want to eat. Love the three tostada she’ll was light and crispy and the shredded beef was spot on. Flavor of food is very good. Very clean and great service.

Stopped by this restaurant for lunch because it was withing walking distance of another business I was visiting. After reading other people’s reviews, I ordered the infamous gorditas and sat as far away from the restrooms as possible. My husband ordered the chimichangas. We were served complimentary chips and salsa, but the salsa was so blazing hot, a neutron star actually came over to my table, handed me a tube of Preparation H and said, «You’re going to need this…» I struggled to fight through the flavor induced asthma attack by gulping down tepid horchata as I watched my husband happily snack on his chimichangas. I ended up taking my entire meal in a to-go box since my stomach was full of liquid from trying to wash the flavor of the salsa out of my mouth. When I was finally able to attempt to eat the gorditas I was less than impressed… What was pandered as «ground beef» reminded me of the canned stuff that I used to buy for my cat.(BTW, I didn’t like my cat– he was supposed to be my daughter’s cat but nobody liked him– he was a mean-ass. What I’m trying to say is, we didn’t give him the best canned food… Get it?) I find it hard to believe that all of the previous reviewers travel all the way from Florida, Arizona, and California to eat at this hole-in-the-wall place. It’s more likely that these«reviewers» know the owner somehow…

Outstanding Gorditas in this place guys! Served hot with salad and beans, chips & salsa fresca. Staff is friendly and on point, but the only drawback is the foul strong odor of sulpher from the restrooms. If you choose to dine here-SIT BYTHEWINDOWS, far away from the restrooms to ensure a pleasant dining experience. PS-try the cakes too! YUMYUM!

Good food. Salsa was a different taste for me. Not bad salsa, not good salsa, just different. I had the gorditas and they were great. Chicken was mixed dark and white meat, plenty of cheese!!! Yum. Refried beans good flavor. My wife had beef and bean tacos. 3 to plate. She also appreciated the cheese. Said she tried to stop at two but they were too good so she ate all 3. Tables were not cleaned off. Go at noon and say hi to the friendly UPS man who eats there every day for the last 8 years including some of his vacation days off.
