Our Martha’s Vineyard ice cream pit stop! Overall, I really loved some of the flavors here, the friendly service, and HUGE portion sizes! I got mocha chip and it’s a great blend of coffee flavors and chocolate bits. Was also happy with the Lots of Dough(cookie dough) ice cream — delivered what it promised! and the maple walnut(very nut heavy and hearty!). But what really makes me sad is the pistachio ice cream; my dad got this one and it’s honestly just not up to par with the other flavors. It had a very weird artificial taste to it(probably too much pistachio extract?) and just tasted off. Would have definitely given this place a 5 if not for how off-putting the pistachio was.

Just as good as they said. I had the lotsa dough flavor. It was just what I needed. One scoop was perfect.

Great Ice Cream. Their Lotsa Dough ice cream was absolutely to die for. It’s a small chain that can be found throughout the vineyard, with unusual but delicious flavors for everyone to enjoy. A highlight of my time on Martha’s Vineyard.

I have been enjoying Mad Martha’s Homemade Ice Cream since I was a little girl, and I can tell you that without a doubt, it continues to be some of the best ice cream out there! My two favorite flavors are Mocha Chip and Sinful Chocolate(which has Heath bars in it… mmmm!!!). They also make low-fat versions of these in frozen yogurt, which don’t taste nearly as rich or delicious, but are definitely a great option if you are watching your calories/fat! During the season, this location of Mad Martha’s is open until 12 am! That’s pretty awesome, given how few late night food or drink options one has on the Vineyard in general, and in Edgartown specifically. And the people who work here are polite, helpful, and very accommodating… given all the drunk vacationers they get late at night, I’m always impressed by how kind and friendly they are at 11:30 pm!!! This is a cash-only place, as is true of many places on the island. They have sandwiches, too, during the day, but I only come here for the ice cream. There is no public bathroom, which is also typical for MV. The main level is WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE, but the upstairs can only be reached by staircase… luckily, it’s entirely unnecessary to go up there in order to get your ice cream or sandwiches! I thoroughly recommend this Mad Martha’s Homemade Ice Cream location to satisfy your late-night ice cream desires!!!

I tried the dough yogurt ice cream and it was very light(I guess that was the yogurt in it). Different than regular chocolate chip cookie dough I normally get. It was very crowded… which I expected because it is SO popular. There wasn’t an abundance of flavors… but I will give another spot another try in another part of the island.

We go here a few times every summer while visiting Martha’s Vineyard and its consistently great. They have very good ice cream and a wide variety of flavors. Try the butter crunch and mint Oreo — very good.

Chocolate Froyo with all kinds of crunchy stuff inside and it was excellent!!! Tried the black raspberry ice cream and coffee ice cream and they were also very good. Not too long of a line, service was nice and friendly and prices weren’t horrible for Martha’s Vineyard. I would go again.

Darn good ice cream! Had the Reese’s flavor with huge chunks of pb cups throughout. YUM! Our family definitely enjoyed our ice cream at Mad Martha’s. Next year — sundae!!!

They do not have gelato even though Unilocal says they do. Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium does which is four doors down.

Great mint chocolate chip and pistachio. Get 2 scoops only fifty cents more than 1 scoop.

Ice cream! Stopped in here while walking around Edgartown. Staff was very nice, posters on the wall were fun and the ice cream was really really good. Hand scooped & thick. I had the Reese’s(two scoops) and couldn’t finish it. He had the cookie dough & snickers and it was super rich and sweet but very good.

Ice cream at this location was… hard. The flavors are basic. I was expecting something spectacular for being a locally operated ice cream shop. I get that the president enjoyed a cone here, but that doesn’t make it great ice cream. Overall, I was sorely disappointed.

If you find yourself lucky enough to be strolling down Water Street in Edgartown, then you should stop for a cone. Granted that in the summer, amidst the crazy crowds of tourists, the line may seem pretty daunting, but these folks are old-pros at the crazy crowds and lines, and they generally do a fantastic job of getting folks in and out pretty quickly. AND, it’s is actually worth the wait. Not only because then you can say you actually went to Mad Martha’s while on the Vineyard(and who wouldn’t want to add that to their bragging rights, after all Sasha and Malia like it) but it’s really GOOD ice cream! So get in line… you know you want a cone!

Sometimes I think I like the idea of having an ice-cream cone more than having the ice-cream itself. It’s vacation time so let me go ahead and order two large scoops of sinful chocolate and dark cherry ice-cream. The ice-cream’s alright, service could have been friendlier.

The ice cream here is good. Not incredibly fantastic but there’s something that’s just really fun and quintessential summer-in-Edgartown about the place. The portions are a good size and there are some great flavors(like the sinful chocolate) but there are definitely some that I suggest avoiding(like the pistachio). Overall, Mad Martha’s satisfies. Take the time to read the handwritten story of Mad Martha on the wall by the windows, it gives a nice historical context to the place. What my ratings mean: 1 star: Horrible. I’m annoyed I wasted my time and/or money here. 2 star: Not bad but nothing special. A decent place if you can’t find something else. I’d equate this to something like McDonald’s. 3 star: I enjoyed my experience there and would go back to try or do more things there. 4 star: I loved it and would be excited to go back. I’d also recommend it to a friend. 5 star: A real gem of a place. A must on anyone’s list.

Maple walnut to die for. Rich & creamy with a serious amount of nuts in it. also had the oreo cream and the oreo cream mint. Both excellent choices as well. Now im going to let you in on a secret here. Its pricey for two people you will be charged 10 $ and there are no kiddy cones so heres what you can do. Order 2 scoops in one cup for 4.68 $ instead of 1 scoop for 4.19. You can get 2 different flavors. Then ask for a small cup and extra spoon and you can have 2 scoops for 1 low price. The ice cream is wonderful here.

I was told they had the best ice cream in town… Not true. They young staff serving prepared the sloppiest glop of a strawberry sundae I have ever had. Their whipped cream is canned, which I can forgive IF the whole thing didn’t look like someone regurgitated on my bowl — as the little bored thing served it, it was evident she just didn’t want to be there, which is sad, because in general, people that work MV are AWESOME, nice and love their jobs. This place, the ice cream was certainly NOT the best I have had, the strawberry sauce was not pleasant, but the hard part for me was the careless way it was served. Not impressed. There are MANYMANY ice cream shops around every corner… stay clear from this one!

Big let down for people who have lactose intolerance. Mad Martha’s has a cute sign, and is always full of people getting their sweet on. The other half of this ice cream store is a sandwich shop, which is generally exciting because I love two for one establishments :) However, being someone who loves and both hates regular ice cream(because I’m not able to digest dairy, but it tastes soooooo good!) I was really disappointed to find out that they did not carry any kind of sorbet options. Additionally, their fat free frozen yogurt flavors are not allowed to be served on an ice cream cone. Are you serious? Half of the fun of getting ice cream is being able to lick it off a cone, have it dribble down your hand, and keeping up with the melting sugary goodness. I gave the server my best sad face, and ordered a regular cone with peppermint ice cream. The peppermint was yummy, and was a decent size serving(compared to stingy ben and jerry’s) but still cost about $ 5.00…which I expected because we are on an island. However, my tummy was not pleased with me later on :( I wished they carried options for people with lactose intolerance that could also be on a cone. They would certainly get more money from me. Alas, I will continue to visit their competition.

I don’t get why everyone loves this place so much. For days all I heard that I must go and try Mad Martha’s ice cream. Ok. I went and I tried the rasberry ice cream and it was just ok. The rasberries were frozen frozen I tell you! expensive for one scoop $ 5. The other night I bought at the grocery store raspberry ice cream and I thought it was as good if not better. However I was very fascinated with the gigantic jar of gigantic pickles that they had at the deli/sandwich shop.
