We’ve ordered cakes from Sugar for our baby gender reveal party and our sons christening. Both times the cakes were delicious. We opted for the simple buttercream and plain Jane combo vs the fancier custom cakes they also offer. If you are looking for a custom cake be sure to call ahead to schedule a consultation.

They get a five for their Anisette cupcake. Only thought of this as a cookie flavor but Sugar took it to another level. Needs to be a regular cupcake flavor. But… Thought the seasonal gingerbread could have had more ginger. Was slightly disappointed. wouldn’t rush back for this one. But. . Will rush back for the Anisette cupcake. Could eat one everyday.

Good cupcakes but this place has gone commercial. Frosting is purchased in 5 gallon pails(piled up outside by the dumpster) along with cake mixes. Paid $ 50 for a basic cake with premade purchased buttercream. This is not a «scratch» bakery like it used to be. Still good but not the«cupcake wars» bakery you might think it is.

They always have a vegan cupcake option they told me and though I’ve only tried them once(vanilla/vanilla) it was pretty delicious. Hope they expand their vegan options in the future!

I’ve purchased several custom cakes for different celebrations over the last few years and Brenda and the team always hit the mark. I love this bakery and the cakes are so tasty. Any flavor, any size, you name it and they will accommodate you for your special occasion. I’m not into cakes being too sweet and their cakes are always just right. They have not disappointed me yet! Oh and to top it off their cupcakes are superb!

OMG. this was sugar heaven… walking into this place I was like a kid in a candy store. There were so many cakes, cookies, and candy or gifts to choose. I bought a dozen cupcakes, which was like $ 16 – 18. A little costly but they were worth it. I loved the various flavors. it made me want to try them all! I look forward to going back next time Im in CT.

The best cupcakes I have ever tasted. The cake is always moist and fluffy, the frosting is creamy and full of flavor, and any other foods they add(cheesecake, cookie dough, etc.) are ridiculously delicious. «So good they should be outlawed!»

This place is worth the drive no matter where you live. These are the best cupcakes I have ever tasted!!! I was shocked by wide selection of flavors, and you can’t go wrong with any of them. Everything tastes amazing, and nothing is artificial here. I tried the maple bacon, chocolate raspberry, toasted almond, and drumstick. I regret not getting more!!! I only wish they had a few indoor seats. This is a must try cupcake place.

I don’t particularly like cupcakes I’m a pie guy. But these cupcakes are great! They have many different cake frosting combos to suit most tastes. We frequently bring them to parties and they. Are always a big hit

A month after trying a cupcake from the food truck, my friends and I decided to drive an hour and a half from NYC to East Haven just to check out the offerings in the shop. The trip was well worth it; and we plan to do it again. Top notch shop, service and product. Do yourself the favor and go there!

I am not a cupcake aficionado. But I know these are the real deal. The shop is adorable and their packaging is nice. They keep their cupcakes in a cooled case so that if you happen to eat it right away(me) the cupcake stays solid and doesn’t crumble all over your clothes(I know these things, trust me). I stick to basic flavors like chocolate or coconut. And they are very good. The icing/frosting is in proportion to the cake part. I wish they had a soda case, or better than yet, I wish they sold milk containers. I need something to wash down all that cake-goodness. They do also sell cookies, some which they bake and some which I believe they bring in. I haven’t tried any cookies yet. My favorite is the Hostess cupcake.

Very delicious cupcakes! Very wide variety & extensive menu. You can also order cakes through them for a birthday, wedding or any special occasion. When you go in the shop they always have homemade decorated sugar cookies. along with a few other little candies and stuff that I guess they import end. They mainly categorize their cupcakes into 2 categories filled & unfilled. Plus throughout the year 4 seasonal sections w/approx. 6 — 8 flavors that fit that season. For example in this spring for March they have Guinness Cupcake & Hooker Beer & fall have apple & pumpkin cupcakes. Winter eggnog, a champagne, gingerbread & summer lot of summer fruit inspired key lime & creamsicle just to give a few examples. When you go into the shop they have about 15 – 20 to choose from daily. They tend to carry 12 of their more standard most popular flavors such as Plain Jane which is basically chocolate or vanilla cupcake w/buttercream l they will often make the icing colors to go along w/seasons & they also usually have your red velvet, either the cookie dough or cookies and cream. If you don’t live nearby & going to be in the area you can call to find out exactly what they have ready that day. They will take order & hold cupcakes but only if 1 doz. + w/tax it runs you about $ 35. They have 2 cupcake trucks. U can go on website & basically they will let you know where they will be for the entire week. At least 1 – 2 days 1 truck is always in the New Haven area around ya the hospital the college. With the trucks flavors are very limited maybe 10 – 12 flavors & once they sell out on the truck that’s it. Price per cupcake is about $ 2.75. When in area we often go in shop & get a dozen & try to get at least 8 flavors we had not tried yet if they have them. They also take suggestions online for cupcake flavor ideas and pick one every few months and showcase them so they had a birthday cake one that was very good. when we go to the truck usually when its in Guilford or Madison will get ½ doz. Usually those are the more popular flavors that they have on their standard menu so we always get our favorites. B4 I relocated to CT in the summer of 2012 my sisters baby shower I had plans with my mother for December 2011 in CT& she wanted Sugar Cupcakes. She told me some of the flavors that she liked via phone conversation I was able to place order you have to order. When you place a large order like that one doesn’t have to be one flavor you can’t mix & match so we ordered 5 doz. &5 different flavors. You can also rent the big sturdy tower for $ 25. They’re not open on Sunday but the shower was on a Sunday & they do come in early when they have customers who need to pick up cakes, cakes or if they have to make the delivery on a larger cake. My sister did order a beautiful delicious cake for my nephew’s 2nd birthday and it was not that expensive considering the quality of the cake the ingredients how it was decorated. She also as party favors she ordered sugar cookies that they decorated to look like Cookie Monster & Elmo and they wrap them up in little packages with bows. Pretty much I would say 90% of the cupcakes I tried I enjoyed. some of them are so rich creamy whether it’s the chocolate cupcake w/chocolate ganache & filling that you can only eat ½ @ time. There aren’t too many that are very light and fluffy they’re definitely filling. Regardless of the amount you buy they have the perfect plastic holders and they don’t bang or touch each other and they stay fresh in the refrigerator for about a week. so definitely stop by if in the area or if you see a truck stop. Although I definitely recommend getting into the shop where you have more of a selection the staff so knowledgeable when you ask about a specific cupcake they’ll give you every detail.

Love these cupcakes! I admit, I tried several, all were amazing but the Sugar Cookie Cupcake was my absolute favorite! The Birthday Cake Cupcake was second on my list. You really can’t go wrong with whatever you get. The store is adorable and the staff is extremely nice! Such a great set up inside. I will for sure be back the next time I am in town visiting the family!

Nom nom nommmm I can only review the actual Cupcake Truck that parks at least 3x a week in front of my work in New Haven. Each time I have gotten a cupcake they have been amazing. Lots of icing(delish) and huge cupcakes. They are pricey, but a great treat after a long week at work. I usually stop and bring some home to my husband who always is excited to eat them. Ha ;)

Row upon row of differently flavored cupcakes are presented before you. This means that I am often stood wide eyed and drooling in front of the casing for quite a while before I finally commit to my final choices. So far I have never been disappointed. We always order birthday cakes from here. They are so beautifully decorated and taste amazingly sinful. The shop do need a couple of days notice to make the bigger cakes and to personalize them, so you definitely need to plan ahead. The service is always brilliant, everyone is super friendly and helpful.

Listen, if it’s a fad or not — I don’t care. Cupcakes FOREVAHHHH. What’s better than a serving sized slice of a savory, sweet in a pretty little package? Everything from the appearance of the shop, the efficiency of the employees to the presentation of the cupcakes and sweets here is pure perfection. Prices are extremely fair for what you get. We opt for 6/$ 15. This includes stuffed cupcakes, they’re larger than some competition in the area, and the quality is second to none. My biggest appreciation for Sugar, comes from their selection. Although vast, they keep it relatively simple — they have your standard go tos, like vanilla, chocolate, cannoli. But they also add fun twists without trying to hard(I’m looking at you NoRa) — Boston cream, cookie dough. Different for a cupcake but not flavors, herbs, that you’ve never heard of. My only gripe would be that they have so many rotating flavors you don’t know what will be here until you get here. They update their Facebook but for their cupcake truck, not the brick and mortar, the flagship. So I gotta pull a star. I really wanted chocolate chili but had no idea if would be here or not.

I wish there was something such as 4 ½ stars because they are amazing! When you enter, you are greeted by a kind woman(at least the times I’ve been there). All the cupcakes are beautiful. They are well presented in front of you. I can’t say there are any imperfections on these cupcakes, beautiful! I’ve tried many cupcakes from here, at least 10. Just amazing. The reason I didn’t give them the five stars was their cookies. I purchased an overpriced stale cookie. It was bad. I wouldn’t go for their cookies, but don’t base your cookie purchase on that! It might have just been a old cookie they forgot to throw out :) I heard they make birthday cakes too… It’s gonna be my birthday several times a year.

Coming from NYC, I was understandably reluctant to give credit to any cupcakes that were not from one of the 100’s of world renowned cupcake places that we are so famous for. Considering how few ingredients go into cupcakes, and how many we have all had in our lifetime(at least how many I know that I’VE had), it takes a lot to get my attention in the way of cupcakes. Sugar Bakery was pleasantly surprising. The initial impressing factor was the variety. Unlike Magnolias or Sugar Sweet in NYC which usually had 5 – 8 kinds to choose from, this place had like 15 different kinds on display. They were interesting and different flavors. No mini-cupcakes, though. All the traditional favorites were there, with some interesting new ones. Red velvet, pistachio, Boston cream, wedding cake, German chocolate… The list goes on and on. I opted for the chocolate peanut butter explosion($ 3) which was delicious. Managed to get it back to Brooklyn in one piece thanks to an awesome single-cupcake delivery tray. Perfect for those who love to indulge in appropriate portion sizes. That said, next time I’ll be getting the six-pack.
