Do not get the Naengmyun here. It sucks. It was probably the worst Naengmyun I’ve had. It was so bad, even the waitress was trying to steer us away from the Naengmyun. She kept saying, «you mean Bibim Naengmyun?» or «Don’t you want Donkatsu instead?» If it sucks so bad, they should’ve taken it off the menu. The reason it sucks was the broth. I like a nice, spicy, and savory Naengmyun broth. But this one tasted like candy. It was overly sweet. I don’t know how much pears or fruits or jolly ranchers they put in the broth, but it made it disgusting. I also tried their Ox Bone Kal Guk Soo. The broth was nice and creamy and the noodles had enough tooth to them. I liked how they were hand made. It was a decent Kal Guk Soo. It comes with small pieces of ground beef, some sea weed, and a piece of zucchini. But it’s mostly broth and noodles. The broth and noodles tasted bland though. I was looking around for some condiments, but I only saw a pepper shaker. At least the broth was creamy. It was so creamy, I was worried it had cream in it. I know it didn’t because it didn’t give me any lactose-intolerant problems. I was going to give this place 2 stars because of their Naengmyun. But I can’t penalize them too much for that. They did try to steer us away from it. I think their Kal Guk Soo is good enough to give them an A-OK rating even though their Naengmyun was bad. I suggest sticking to their Kal Guk soo and ignore the Naengmyun.

Kal Guk Si restaurant now has a different name, romanized as Maet Dol(«Noodle and Dumpling House»). It sounds like«Medal,» when said with an American accent. «Maet Dol» is a grinding stone or mill stone. Anyways, it is still a kalguksu place with a new name. Located in the same plaza, directly next door to, Scissorhands. The bowls of guksu are large enough to feed a family of three people, or myself and my husband. We ordered the oxbone broth with hand pulled noodles. The noodles are the perfect«chulgit chulgit» texture, the broth is hearty and creamy, and vegetables are fresh. An excellent meal after a long night of partying. They also have other popular Korean foods and stews, but I decided to order the specialty. The staff is nice, especially if you speak Korean. However, the menu also has very clear descriptions in English. I love how they do not discourage or charge more for sharing dishes. Sharing such large dishes brings the cost down and less leftovers to haul around.

Yesterday’s unexpectedly cold and rainy weather was the perfect storm for hot noodle soup. Since I was running errands in the Duluth area, Met Dol was calling my name esp. since I’d been wanting to try it ever since its previous occupant Kal Guk Si closed, nearby neighbor Paik’s Noodle turned out to be a disappointment, and I love«Kal Guk Soo»(Korean handmade noodle soup). The space looks almost the same(not many tables), and the menu and prices are similar too. I couldn’t decide between the«ox bone broth», the«chicken broth», or the«spicy soup» — then opted for the«ox bone broth»($ 8.99) based on my server’s recommendation. The best part of my noodle soup was the rich and flavorful broth — I coveted it so much that I took the leftover soup home and next day, I think it tasted even better. The noodles were al dente(maybe too al dente?) and looked handmade, and the soup also came with zucchini, onions, and kelp. My soup also came w/3 banchan — my favorite was the kimchi which tasted very fresh. After I complimented my broth and kimchi, the server brought a container so I could take the kimchi home too :) The servers were very nice and friendly. I’ll definitely be back when I need a «Kal Guk Soo» fix.

I decided to go here on a whim, and man, was I surprised. It’s owned and operated by a woman(mei sun?) and her husband, who is the cook. They’ve moved from New York several months ago to craft everything in their restaurant by hand. I had Ox Bone Broth Noodle Soup with Beef Dumplings, with pickled Korean Radish and Kimchi, both of which she made this morning, and were overwhelmingly flavorful. The broth was light, but deeply savory, and the dumplings were soft and plump, gushing peppery juices with every bite; dumplings in general are one of my favorites, and I’m extremely picky about them. These were no let down. I will be going back, for sure. Next time? Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup. With more dumplings. :) This. Place. Rocks.

My husband and i go at least once a week! If you are a fan of kalgooksoo, this is the place to eat! They hand make their noodles and it’s amazing! The other dishes like ddukguk, ddukguk mandugook, and bulgogi dupbap are also really tasty! Staff(only like 1 woman) is very nice! Highly Recommend!
