After jumping over a puddle of water that accumulated just inside of the front door, we were greeted by a sign that asked us to seat ourselves. The restaurant appeared dirty and had sort of a musty smell. Nevertheless, we walked to a available booth and sat down. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who took our drink orders. We ordered the sweet tea. Not good. It was clearly not fresh brewed. After placing our orders(we both ordered the rib plate) our food came out pretty quick. We also ordered a side of beans. The ribs were COLD. Some pieces were warmer than others, but it seemed as if they had been refrigerated and then warmed in the microwave. The fries seemed to be handcut, however, they were a tad undercooked and were kind of soggy. The beans had a good flavor. Overall, this is a place where I would never return. It was so horrible that I didn’t even complain. We just got the hell out of there. Oh and the cashier should find another job. One where she doesn’t have to deal with people.

Hudson Hickory House has been a long time favorite of mine and was looking forward to this visit for the purpose of writing a long anticipated Unilocal review. Unfortunately this visit found them really off their game. My dining partners and myself sampled the three major barbecue food groups, oink, cackle and moo and were all left a little disappointed. All was a little dry despite being sauced. The white meat portion of the half chicken was really dry. Our server was friendly and entertaining but service was unusually slow compared to what we were accustomed to at Hudson’s. As far as the sides went, the fresh cut fries were a little cold(unusual) and it appeared the grater blades were a little dull that were used to make the slaw. The slaw dressing was very tasty however and had a nice home made flavor. We tried a chili dog which was pretty good topped with a rather dry meat chili. It was really good with the addition of a few drops of the house made hot sauce judiciously applied. Prices are good with a beef thrift plate consisting of a sandwich with slaw and fries running about $ 7.50. There is a nice selection of old fashioned chew candy and mints available at the cash register that make for a nice sweet ending if you don’t have room for a slice of pie or a fried pie. This trip was a little disappointing but hope for redemption on our next visit. Knowing first hand what they are capable of leaves them open to another try.

The food is extremely good and everything is very well priced and portioned. I always order take out though because there’s this uncomfortable feeling of racism coming from the customers when you eat here. Not the employees though they are great.

Great pulled pork and sides but the ribs were cold and lacking in quantity for the price. Love their homemade BBQ sauce but need a little variety for other taste.

When your friend says they know of a great BBQ place in Douglasville named Hudson’s, don’t be fooled. This is not a BBQ place but a restaurant that just serves BBQ with a lot of things. How did I come to this conclusion? First of all, my sweet tea was not freshly brewed and was that garbage known as Gold Peak. That’s an automatic deduction of a star. Second, no beans or potato salad? They do have hand-cut fries and they sure were nice, hot, and fresh. The best part of the meal. I had the BBQ pork and stew combo because I would have to order ribs separate. The stew was pretty good but needed a little more spice for my taste. The pork was tender at some points and tough on the burnt ends part. There seemed to be more burnt ends than tender meat. The meat wasn’t bad, but was just ok. The worst part of the meal was the BBQ sauce! Just straight up vinegar with a bitter taste. I know most BBQ sauces are made of vinegar, but this was as close to vinegar as it gets. It needed more flavor. One of the worst BBQ sauces I’ve ever had. There was a homemade hot sauce and it was so much better. But it packed too much heat for me. Hudson’s had been around for a long time and has loyal customers. But for someone from out of town, I wasn’t impressed. I will just order a large bucket of their fries next time.

BBQ here is nothing special. The best I can say is that it isn’t awful. I had the Pork, Beef, and a Ribeye steak. Everything was mediocre at best. If I had to guess, they are cooking everything at too high a temperature. Nothing was dry, but everything was drenched in sauce. There was none of that unctuous creamy texture you get with great BBQ. Reminded me of the tubs of pulled pork or beef you can buy at Publix. Steak tasted off, probably previously frozen. I would avoid this place.
