Best Date Night in a Long Time My husband took me here for a date night at Mesazul’s in March. I had never been here before and hadn’t realized it was at Doral Golf Resort and Spa. I was so excited when we pulled up. I was glad we got to the restaurant early because we had time to walk around the premises. There was a pretty waterfall and a gorgeous fountain close to the main entrance. We had drinks at the bar at Mesazul’s before heading to our table. The tables for dinner are separated enough so you do not feel overcrowed and you almost feel secluded. The atmosphere was romantic. Our server for dinner, Alex, was amazing. He was personable and attentive. My husband ordered a steak and mentioned it was one of the better steaks he has ever had. I ordered the seafood platter as my main entrée. We had a wonderful dinner experience here and I hope my husband brings me back here again soon.

I’ve been to Mesazul about 4 or 5 times during different stays at the resort. Though the service can be very slow(even for stuff as simple as salad, oysters, bread) I still really enjoy the food. They have a nice selection of wine for my fellow lovers, the décor is great and yes — the restaurant is typically pretty empty…(most high end restaurants seem to be since the severe economic decline in ’08). I think with Mesazul not having a bar(and there being a bar with live music and«swanky» lights adjacent from it… It suffers. I order the same things every time so I can’t speak on much past those items, but it also let’s you know these items keep me coming back for more :). My favorites: — oysters(east and west) — caesar wedge — seared ahi tuna — rum soaked maduras Anywho — I enjoy good food and will be back :) If you get Najla as a server she’s very helpful with picking out something you’ll enjoy.

I hope Trump’s recent acquisition of this resort helps this restaurant. It is attempting to be an upscale dining experience. The bad night started with a fly in the salad. The grouper and the red snapper dishes both tasted very fishy. The filet and chicken dishes were OK. Our waiter needs to go back to training. He hung around the table watching our every move and disrupted our privacy in a very uncomfortable manner. The apologies for the fly in the salad was over kill. After the forth person came out and apologized, we felt that Trump himself would eventually show up. There was only two other parties in the entire restaurant. One party was a screaming child. Between the fly, fishy fish, hovering waiter and screaming kid, Trump has a lot of work ahead to bring this restaurant out of the doldrums.

The ambiance is wonderful, the food was divine! This place almost doesn’t «fit» in the rest of the hotel because it is a slice of heaven… However, I was thrilled it was there because it made for a lovely evening out with friends! Sooo much great food!

Very good service and an elegant atmosphere but only mediocre food. This was our third dinner in the area while working in Doral. Highly recommended by the locals as a nice«destination», which is true of the grounds, facility and staff for sure, but the food was not spectacular. Crabcake appetizer was quite good. Oscar style fish(grouper?) was overcooked and dry. Lobster pot pie had great flavor but too much breading. Garlic fries were yummy but how can any chef go wrong with that. Really fantastic cocktails. Pricy, but a good way to impress your guests for sure. Overall a good place for a client meal and quiet dinner for two — as I said the service was five star. If you’re a foodie, it wouldn’t be my first pick.

Merely ok. Not as horrific as some of the other reviews suggest, but nothing special. The staff was pretentious and annoying.

½ dozen oysters: Very happy with the oysters. Fresh, meaty, clean, delicious. shucked perfectly. Served with a perfect topping of black pepper mignonette. Wine: was recommended a fantastic smokey pinot. Pork Three Ways: 1) bacon, 2) pulled pork and 3) niman ranch tenderloin over a peppery salsa and savory corn sopas. All excellent. The design of the restaurant is superb. comfortable, elegant, accommodating. Service was very welcoming, helpful and accommodating. Price: priced fair.

Overpriced. I don’t know what else to say. The drinks are the same as you can get anywhere else. The service is marginal to poor. And, the prices are ridiculous. The only reason to go here is convenience. But Marriott knows how to take advantage of captive audiences. Sad.

I love steak and enjoy going to great steakhouses like Ruth’s Chris. I was staying at the hotel for Father’s Day weekend and decided to give Mesazul a try. I can’t believe how awful our visit was. I was disappointed b/c the meal started off really well and just went downhill. Here’s a rundown: Appetizer Short Ribs with corn cake — Delicious and one of the best things I ever tasted. Crabcake — tasty and meaty — not a lot of fillers, just full crab meat Main Course Grouper — overcooked and hard Churrasco — could get better at la carreta Lechon — tasty Picanha — OK Everything was ok — it wasn’t bad but what bothered me the most was for the prices they charge, the quality of the food should be a lot better. Our bill for 4 people with 4 apps, 4 entrees, 3 desserts and 2 cork fees(we brought our own bottles of wine) — the check was $ 350. Which compared to Ruth’s Chris or any other high end steakhouse is pretty normal — but the food was just disappointing. In addition, the service was unprofessional(our waiter kept telling us we were smart for bringng our own wine b/c they would have charged hundreds for the wine we brought — who says that? and he kept telling us what to order — when I ordered the grouper, he said — are you sure that’s what you want??). The fire alarm went off for a good 10 mins before shutting off — It just didn’t feel like a highend restaurant to me. And the restaurant was empty on a saturday night at 8 pm — but i guess that was for good reason. I don’t expect this place to survive in the long run. The food is definitely NOT worth the price and the only people who would go here would be people who stay at the hotel and are too lazy to leave. On a positive note, the restaurant décor is pretty.

This place has really changed from when it used to be Windows on the Green(they recently renovated the entire restaurant portion of the hotel). While the lunch buffet is essentially the same, the whole ambience has gone from more«old fashioned»(catered to an older generation of golfers), to a fresh and surprisingly modern«south beachy» design. I have only ever visited Windows on the Green or Mesazul during the lunch buffet, therefore I cannot compare dinner experiences, I do know that the Doral Resort has changed the entire concept of the restaurant to a more Latin American theme. There is even a Bossa Nova lounge adjacent to the restaurant now. I hesitated on removing a star for this visit, as Mesazul certainly blows Windows on the Green away, however the service during our visit was really not too good. Our Vice President was denied access into the resort by security and therefore missed our lunch, the server at our table was excruciatingly slow with the drinks(thank God it was a buffet and we didn’t have to wait for food), and when voicing our complaint to management about our Vice President, we were given a nonchalant apology. Only after we explained to the hostess stand what happened were we offered any sort of compensation, which we declined as we felt it should have been offered in the beginning(what manager only vaguely apologises before you pay, and then ten minutes after you pay comes back to offer a refund??) They do deserve the four stars, though, as we did visit during the CA golf championship, therefore I’m sure they were extremely busy. Not exactly an excuse, but it definitely played a part in our service. The food was still really good, and a large selection of salad offerings. For the carnivore, this really isn’t the best place for lunch, as there are only two or three meat choices. After meals, drinks, tax and tip the price came out to about $ 60.00 per person. Way too expensive for a normal lunch, but great for business meetings when it’s on your company card :)
