Came in last time we went to the Eastern Market and loved it. Friendly staff and 7 TVs with soccer on — every game available. 153 kinds of Whiskey available and good selection of drafts.

This place sucks. Bouncer/owner is rude. Bartender is rude. Service is horrible. Next bar.

I didn’t take a picture because it was dark. But we went here after the Turkey Trot and I had a Whiskey Mary, a bloody mary made with whiskey. I loved it! We also had food brought over from Stache International and it was phenomenal. My boyfriend and I split the Tom Tom eggroll which was a thanksgiving egg roll with turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing in a fried egg roll with a side of gravy for dipping. We also split the kielbasa sandwich with sauerkraut and horseradish sauce. Both were amazing and phenomenal. This is a great spot for tailgating!

Gave it a few chances to change my mind. stuningly bad service and rude. No kitchen=no food. weird atmosphere. seems ec centric and crazy. I feel lIke they dont even know who or what they are trying to become. the bar or the crazy people.

For some reason, I always forget about this bar. But every time I’m there, I always have a good time. There’s a really good selection of whiskey(considering it’s a whiskey bar) but I’m really impressed. They have a very unique selection of craft beers as well. There’s also a side room that you can reserve for parties.

Come on down! The drinks are AMAZING… Great atmosphere, acoustic soul on Tuesdays w/Joe and a late night Happy Hour w/Chuck!

No food service as of our visit, but we were told it was starting very soon. A good small bar just off the end of the Eastern Market area next to a small butcher complex. Good beer and alcohol selection, great old time looking bar and bar back area, and polite staff who chat just the right amount for a friendly time drinking. I am looking forward to the food service. One note, the bathroom has been very dirty on two of our visits.

I stopped in with a couple of friends yesterday after walking around the Eastern market for a while. There isn’t any food on the menu but fortunately the Detroit Distillery had their pop up brunch going on with some really nice menu selections. That was the best part of our experience. The waitress was possibly one of the rudest and most inattentive servers I’ve experienced. She had a sour look on her face the entire time she took our drink order. I ordered a Bloody Mary and thought maybe a $ 2.50 tip would soften her up, I immediately regretted it when we ordered our second round, we had to go up to the bar to order our drinks and even at that had to wait for what appeared to be regulars get served. I personally skipped the second round as my Bloody Mary was basically undrinkable, it tasted as if it had been made with 50% mix and 50% pickle juice. I got about a third of the way through it an gave up. I would say that this was an isolated incident but one of our group mentioned that she had a similar experience with the staff on a previous occasion. There’s no excuse for rude service. This is someplace I will definitely skip on my next trip to the market. If you like loud soccer bars with lots of bottle beer and poor service, by all means stop in. 7÷25÷15 I’ve added another star simply due to the fact that the owner personally messaged me to apologize for my experience there. Probably a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I live nearby and this is my new favorite hangout. They pour strong drinks, everyone’s friendly, lots of TVs for watching the games. On market days it seems to be full of dudes watching sports while their wives do the shopping. No food though. You can grab a pizza from Supinos or sandwiches from Russell St. and be all set. I could spend hours in here, and sometimes I do.

My new favorite bar to watch sports, great selection of beer and of course whiskey. Bartenders are extremely knowledgable of the brands and I always have a good time here. I just recently moved back to the city and I feel like real detroiters hang out here. Definitely a place you should check out.

Lots and lots and lots of whiskey… but you probably knew that from the name. Decent beer selection, too. I have to give it a «ding» because there’s no food. Yes, you can order in, but c’mon…I used to go to this place all of the time when it was a little irish pub, so I know there’s a kitchen in there somewhere. If you’re going to do it, do it right. You’re not a brew pub, so the excuse that they use doesn’t apply here. People come here to hang out for a while and have multiple drinks… some food would really make that a better overall experience. A decent enough place as it is, but lacking food is a detriment. And yes, I realize you can call in, but if I wanted to get food from someplace else, I’d be there, not here.

If you want to go where all the bartenders are normal good people who like to get you drunk and play the best jukebox in Detroit… this is your bar. NOFOOD so if you are hungry bring it in or order delivery, we don’t mind.

Thomas Magee’s has an extensive selection of whiskey and the freshest and coldest beer on tap. Attentive service. And for ANY sports viewing event this is the destination for you.

I visited during a bar tour in Eastern Market. Thomas Magee’s is a Sports bar so you will find sports on all the TVs. I enjoyed my outing and the bartender was attentive and poured heavily. They know their whiskey as I listed to the guys next to me get schooled on various types of whiskey they carry. They carry a lot. It is a small spot and pricing is comparative to other bars around downtown. If you like whiskey then this is a place to try. They also carry beer and a pretty stocked bar.

We walked into the place hoping to pass some time while we waited for the line at Supinos to go down(which it never did). I recognize that we are probably not the typical clientele Thomas Magees caters to(we definitely aren’t sports bar people), but we were still willing to give it a try. I stupidly fell for the $ 7 mojito advertised on the board outside, and the hubs went for a draft stella. The mojito — if I can even call it that — was the worst I’ve ever had. and I’ve had a few, but I blame that on as much on me me for being stupid enough to order it in the first place as I do on the bartender. The hubbys draft stella came in a plastic cup(i mean really?) which he wasn’t at all pleased about. The place was full of Detroit FC fans and some players who looked like they had just come from the game, and others watching the Tigers game on TV. The crowd was ok. a lot of people who looked like they were just in Detroit temporarily from the burbs. The cherry on the top? The old man and his bad guitar music. Yeah. We won’t be back. But seriously, why aren’t there more bars in Eastern Market? We tried Vivios before Thomas Magees. but it’s like bad and worse. Sigh. Hoping someone opens something soon.

This is one of my favorite bars in the greater downtown Detroit area. It’s a great local neighborhood bar where you just enjoy hanging out, having some drinks and watching some sports. The owner Erik is great, and the staff is always friendly. Erik has a background in refrigeration, so the beer is always cold. The whiskey selection is incredible, and they have good knowledge about their products. Seven TVs over the bar area, plus I believe two in the side game room, every sports package, and a good sound system makes it a great place to watch any sport. They get a printout of every sporting event each morning that says which events are on and what channel, so the bartenders always know when to change the channel. In such a great sports market like Detroit that severely lacks good places to watch the game, it’s refreshing to find a great sports bar. Soccer fans will appreciate the place as well, as they’re willing to open early for EPL games in some situations. No food, but they do have some menus for area restaurants that will deliver, and you’re welcome to bring in your own stuff. The only real negative is probably the prices, but overall they are fairly reasonable(think ~$ 5 for draft beer/wells). Of course, with the selection they have in whiskey, those can get expensive. They have happy hour specials 4 – 7 and«Whiskey Wednesdays» from 7 – 9.

Came with a friend to check out this new bar he heard about. So glad I did! The barkeeps, Jody and Rocky were friendly and quick to smile. They also made a hell of an irish coffee. The décor is warm and inviting ans the music is not overly loud. Highly recommend.

When I moved to Lafayette Park I lamented that there was no good place to get a drink and watch a game. Sure, there were some decent dining options nearby(supino, sala thai, vivio’s), but no neighborhood bar or watering hole. Thomas Magee’s is a game-changer for Lafayette Park and Eastern Market residents. Multiple TVs with all of the channels/sport packages are a huge plus. The owner, Erik, also says that if he gets requests from a small group he will open the place up for odd hours for all of the soccer/football fans. The interior build out of the place looks great. High quality finishes and woodwork. He is also in the process of building out a game room with darts, foosball, golden tee, etc. Decently priced draught beers and also great selections of local and michigan beers and whiskey. No kitchen or cooked food yet, but you can bring your own food in, and they also sell cheap popcorn and chips.
