I can’t believe I never reviewed this place. I’ve been here 4 – 5 times… I must be slacking… Anyway, I enjoy this place as a bar and a hangout joint with friends. In the heart of Greektown, it’s in the«hip» area by the casino and near the sports stadiums and other bars/restaurants. On a weekend night in the spring and summer, it’s hopping. The hype is at a 10(or an 11, if you’re a Spinal Tap fan.) This is a two-story bar. I’ve never eaten here but I have drank plenty, and the price of domestic beers is kind of crazy($ 4). It is what it is, I guess. The bar is big and pretty nice. Actually, the whole bar is wooden and looks good. The downstairs part is more of the area where people drink and tell stories, while upstairs it’s much louder with music blasting and people dancing. They have bars upstairs and downstairs, with upstairs boasting leather chairs and bright disco lights. It’s a hook up area, really. I like how you can be wearing pretty much anything and get in. I’m not for dress codes, especially when jeans and a polo seems more than satisfactory to me. The bartenders are swift and nice — one was cracking jokes with my friend and me. Note: this place does charge cover on weekends so beware. Otherwise, I’d check it out for the fun of the experience. One night a bride and groom walked in and people cheered for two minutes straight. It is that kind of place.

Mediocre bar food. The atmosphere looks great, but I was just in for a quick bite. I am sure I’d rate higher if i was having a drink and not the food. The food tasted like high end frozen food. Maybe a notch higher than Marie Callender’s.

In Detroit for the day and searched Unilocal for some good eats. Clicked on Firebird Tavern and the reviews sold me. I called and asked about happy hour info and was greeted by very upbeat employee. I showed up to the bar for happy hour at 4:30 and immediately a very friendly and informative bartender named Tim waited on me. Tim guided me in selecting a local beer Ghetto Blaster, it was very good and I always like to try the local brew. As for the entrée, I knew I was ordering the chicken cordon bleu sandwich based on previous Unilocal reviews. Man was it delicious! So I love this place, great beer, food, atmosphere and awesome service!

The Firebird offers something that Greektown desperately needs — a touch of class. My name is Scotty, I come from Westland — a quaint place that loves ICP, Guns & Roses, and Mickey’s 40s.(I THINKTHEYACTUALLYSELLMICKEY’s HEREBTW) swoon: D I also love Greektown — a lively place filled with noise, bright lights, music, restaurants and drinks anywhere you turn around, and a kind fellow handing out a Demo CD. I love the bars of Greektown, I’m Irish AF, I love the Shillelagh, I also love the Upstairs Club at Greektown, and Delux. I love them all. Sometimes I crave a place that has craft cocktails and fine Michigan Beers. That’s where Firebird comes into play. Sometimes after a huge win at the Greektown Casino(or before I plan on robbing it by winning at ton at 21) I could use a place, a classy place to get my mind right. What’s cool about Firebird is that they offer only the finest Handcrafted and Classiest Cocktails here. I mean if you want to see magic created by fine barkeeps, you step into these beautiful colored doors and grab a stool and ask these drink magicians to perform some magic. You don’t step into a classy place like this and ask for a Rum & Coke or try to screw with them by asking them to give you a Coke and Rum — they do great things here. I also love the very Mitten-centric beer menu here. You don’t step into The Firebird Tavern and order a Bud Light, I mean… what are you… a basic B-Word? Hell no, they have options upon options and a huge menu of local beers that will satisfy any taste for the harder stuff. Besides the great drink knowledge and kindness of the staff, I really enjoy that The Firebird creates a weekly or monthly Cocktail that is new and tasty in which profits go to local charities. If that’s not giving back to Michigan, I don’t know what is. The food is dope too, probably because they use primarily Michigan-based ingredients. I’ve only ate here once for a lunch with fam, but it was awesome. Fries were flawless and burger was cooked to perfection. I wasn’t too hungry that day, but next time I come, I will be. Night time can be less«bumping» than other Greektown places, but what do you expect. This is a place for connoisseurs of only the finest beers, foods, and cocktails. If you want«bumping» in Greektown, go to one of the other joints.(which I love equally, btw) The Firebird is a great place for people to enjoy a nice drink, not slam one. The Firebird is a place to chew on a tasty meal made with locally sourced fresh ingredients and not chew on a girl’s tongue(a girl with a lower back tattoo that reads«Chive Hoe,» mind you) …and the Firebird isn’t a place to slam a Bud listening to Lil Jon. Although I love all these things, there’s a time and place. When I want world class service and the best food and drink sourced from Michigan-based products, I come here! This is a classy place. One you bring your family to if you want to meet for a game or one you want to stop in before you plan on playing the VIP room at the casino.(or to celebrate after you win from it) I’ll be back when I win or when I am hungry; hungry for food or hungry for winning :)

This place may be one of my new favorites in the D. Great draught list, cocktails and food! I had a seasonal beer from Greenbush that was fantastic then switched to the cocktail special which was a Jameson Mule. It was rather tasty. For dinner, I had the fish tacos which were yummy. I would order those again. Tony had the turkey club with fries and those too were delicious. To top it all off, the service was A+. Glad we found this place while exploring lovely Greektown!

1st time here. Really liked it. Great drinks, good food, nice atmosphere. Food is not typical bar food. This is a real kitchen with a creative menu. Food came out properly cooked and tasty. Would come back just for food. Service was top notch. Owner was present and came over to make sure all is good. Like when an owner has pride in his business. Surprised I never been here before. Many steps above the dive bar I thought it was. See, appearances can be deceptive.

Visiting Detroit to see Iron Maiden and a Flyers vs Wings game. This place had great apps and the server, Tim was super warm and welcoming and funny. Go for the pretzel and the poutine!

Great food, drinks and atmosphere. The pimento cheese appetizer and Fried Green Tomato BLT was our food selection. We would order both again. A definite if you’re in Greek town.

Tonight we participated in the tavern takeover event celebrating the Right Brained Brewery. The food and beer pairings were tasty & fun! Owen, the owner, made us feel welcome and comfortable. When I asked if any of the food pairings would be appropriate for my vegetarian brother-in-law he hooked him up with a delightful veggie burger. Do yourself a favor and wander in for a beer & a bite!

This is a great restaurant! This tavern had 4 stars on Unilocal, which always intrigues me. We were headed to the casino afterwards, which is convenient since it is right down the block. The tavern has a warm feel with candlelit tables. Theo menu is small, but their items are delicious. We ordered a soft pretzel with beer cheese dip to start. The appetizer was very delicious and the cheese dip was not overpowering. We also ordered the corned beef sandwich and the Alden, which is a spin on a Cordon Bleu. MYMYMY was that Alden TASTY! The chicken was juicy with all the right toppings. The best part-the fries were crispy! Just like you see fries advertised in commercials! Perfect! We will be back!

I was at a meeting at the International Center and I was starving when it ended. I walked out the door and there was Firebird Tavern, directly across the street. I ordered a corned beef sandwich with slaw and 1000 island. The bread was deliciously griddled and the corned beef was just the right combo of tender and chewy. The fries that came with the sandwich were fresh out of the fryer and nicely seasoned. Service was A-OK and the ambiance is nice — dark woods in the 1880’s building give it an old-timey bar feeling. Since I only stopped by for a quick lunch, I don’t feel comfortable yet giving 4 stars, but I will be back with hubby or some friends, and if it’s just as good I’ll up the rating.

Was in Detroit for the marathon and stopped by this place after I heard many positive reviews from others. The ambience of this place is neat as there’s a detailed history of this facility on the menu. I had the Diner burger which is a favorite by many patrons,(a double patty burger). There’s also a solid micro brew list of bottles and many other micros on tap. The whole bar was very clean with many flat screens to watch your favorite team. It also has many cool regular patrons who make you feel welcomed. The bartender,(Tim) was a great guy. He was very knowledgeable about the menu items and beers as he talked about the extensive training employees have here. I will definitely suggest this place to anyone in the downtown/Greektown area.

I was in town on business and staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. I was looking for a place that I could watch the Cubs playoff game, have dinner and enjoy a couple of craft beers. The Firebird accomplished all of these and then some. Better yet, it was a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The building dates back to the 1800’s and is very cool. It features an old wooden bar with lots of tv’s and modern amenities. Nicole was wonderful behind the bar and made several good beer suggestions. They have a nice selection of a dozen or so on tap and a full menu of bottles. I had a skirt steak for dinner and it was outstanding, one of the best I have ever enjoyed. On top of everything, the manager gladly put on the Cubs game and turned on the volume when asked by another guest. Great food, beer and fantastic attitudes from Nicole and the manager.

Came here to watch some football. Food: Got some wings. They were very dry. Too bad. Beer: Not that many options on tap. Service: Not very friendly. We asked if they could switch one of the TVs from golf to football and the waitress said she would try. Yeah, never happened. Also, we found it hilarious that when a patron came in asking if they had all the football games, two workers said«yeah!». After that guy sat down, the two workers were fiddling around with the TV trying to find the channels. Well… they don’t have Sunday ticket… so they definitely did not have access to all the games. At this point the guy already ordered a beer! So he had to stick around for that one beer. #fail I feel like if you are going to be a sports bar open on Sundays, you should know that you don’t have Sunday ticket and should not be telling people that you can get it… when you cant. We didn’t love our experience here. There are better bars in Downtown.

The people who work here are incredibly kind, and extremely patient. Case in point was my last visit as part of my friend’s bachelor party — a 3-day bender throughout some of the city’s most milquetoast bars and clubs — featuring 40 Big Ten bros who have no respect for others, work for Gilbert(obviously, no respect for themselves), and double as some of the worst people I know. «After this we can go to Jolly Pumpkin then pop bottles at Club V.» Just shoot me. Kill me right now, I thought. It was only 5 p.m., and one of my friends, a perfectly well adjusted young man who may enjoy drowning puppies in his spare time, had a bar stool over his head. «Is he going to hit someone? Or is this a Shelby Township mating ritual?» Thankfully, nobody got hurt. And the bar manager, who has obviously handled his fair share of suburban clowns, simply quipped, «I think it’s time you guys wrap it up,» which translated into«Go back to your shitty McMansions, you scumbags.» Anyhow. I can’t fault this place for the clientele it attracts, but I can fault myself for keeping terrible company. The bar itself is clean, the staff, as mentioned above, is friendly and kind, the dartboard is strategically placed, and the food is well above a step up from standard bar food. I recommend any of the wraps. Despite the bar itself being pretty solid, I stillI hope I never have to come here ever again.

I brought some people here expecting decent quality food. I more chose this place for the convenience of location and simplicity of the menu than anything else. However, when I see a small menu I usually expect the items that are available to be exceptional. This was the complete opposite. The fries were not even worth my time. They were stringy and tasteless. And my buffalo chicken wrap had no flavor besides the average buffalo sauce. The service was fine, but overall this place was really unimpressive.

Came in on a Thursday before a Tigers day game. Alexis was the bartender. She’s quit the pistol. It was a bit too early in the day to be prepared for her sassy demeanor, but she was very good at what she does. The place has 12 beers on tap. All nice craft beers. No Budwiser on tap here. They also have a great bourbon collection, including Bookers, Basil Hayden’s and Knob Creek. Got lunch, we had the Philly Cheese steak and a Fried Green BLT. The Cheese steak was very good and prepared as expected. It came with homemade chips that were a bit over cooked. The BLT was interesting. Fried green tomatoes, bacon, shredded lettuce and a jalepeno mayo. It was good, but would have been better with lettuce that wasn’t shredded. The stuff on the sandwich was wilted from the hot tomatoes. We also had the big pretzel. Not as impressive as Hofbrahaus, but good none the less.

Best bar in Detroit!!! Tim is the best bartender ever! If you are ever in Detroit, and find yourself in Greektown, please visit this place. Fantastic bar, helpful and personable staff. Great bartenders! So glad I came here on my first ever visit to Detroit, this was a wonderful place to show off the new rejuvenated city. It’s a must when visiting Greektown. Great beer selection too!

My wife and I decided to try this place because of a referral off of television. We both had burgers and fries. They were average at best. Absolutely nothing special. Don’t get me wrong here. They weren’t bad. They just weren’t special in any way. I can name 20 places with better burgers in the Detroit area. The fries were just blah fries. The building is an old bar with a lot of character. The service was decent with no issues.
