Cool coffee shop, definitely adds to the West Village’s charm. Maybe I’m biased, I’m writing this review WHILE I SITAT A TABLEHERE. But really, I love coffee shops and this place is a great one to visit. Friendly baristas, chill music, ample seating, Stumptown coffee. This is my first visit to the Detroit location and I’d definitely come back to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning reading/writing/hanging out. Pro tip: Come here and check out Sister Pie too, for a double douse of treats and coffee.

Love this place. Coffee/espresso is great. Baristas friendly and the bakery treats are delectable. Wish I had more time in my busy schedule to hang. So much better than the chains out there.

One of my favorite places in the city. They serve Stumptown which is good, not necessarily my favorite, but still much better than any of the sludge you can find in my current neighborhood, and it is a welcome difference than the Anthology or Great Lakes that are served at pretty much every other restaurant in the city(which, don’t get me wrong, I dig, but I like to switch things up!). Plus, I just realllllly like this spot, it’s beautiful and located in one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. I may be biased as I used to live next door to this building and can remember my excitement when our neighborhood finally had a coffee shop! I went every single morning and would splurge on Fridays and get a warm hand pie which are seriously good. Flaky crust and if you get there early enough, they’ll still be warm. Now I really only make it out every couple of weekends since I try to diversify my weekend coffee experiences. But, Red Hook is typically one of the easier in and outs. The service is prompt and friendly and often the owner is around, which I always appreciate. There are lots of street parking plus there is a lot in the back. While you stop there for coffee check out the surrounding businesses; Detroit Vegan Soul or Craft Work if you need something more substantial than a muffin or a hand pie, Tarot and Tea, and Paramita Sound.

I usually drink tea. I recently decided to try coffee and have found that coffee at many national Chain locations taste awful and bitter. Not the case here! No drip coffee! Friendliest baristas ever too! Super fast service! Good prices! My new favorite spot! Thanks so much for the smiles!

This had been one of my favorite coffee shops in Detroit-nice vibe, lots of plugs, good light, very nice coffee. But the Internet hasn’t worked the last few times I’ve been there. I’m so sad! I would love to keep going here, but I really need the Internet when I go to a coffee shop. If they fix it, this place gets five stars, but without, only three. :(

Nice place. Good menu and good coffee. Friendly service. I tend to make this a bike ride destination, though there is always car parking available.

Definitely prefer going to the Ferndale location over this one. I wasn’t so crazy about the attitude of the cashier, and if it’s something that irks me big time about the food industry, it’s poor attitude. She had it written all over her face, and my friends and I were not pleased with it. Still, we decided to get a slice of pecan pie and enjoy the cozy space. The slice of pie was good, but nothing amazing. We initially came to chomp on some of Sister Pie’s creations, but they were all out. :(The pie looked good, but eating it was just blah. Thankfully, we just got 1 slice for the 4 of us to share. The space, however, is really cute. I love the hand illustrations of the birds on the ceiling. The tables and chairs have a nice layout that provide good lounging and privacy at the same time. Background music was relaxing and not distracting, perfect for conversation. One thing to note though — I have Verizon as my cell phone carrier, and there was absolutely ZERO coverage in the space, so if you plan on staying there for a while, keep that in mind. Other than that, we had a nice time. We weren’t there for super long, but enjoyed a relaxing environment to chat and snack on some pie. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back here again, but if I was in the area, I’d swing by, and hopefully that cashier isn’t there and Sister Pie’s goodies are available. :)

An oasis in the middle of the desert. Nice coffee, nice young people, but don’t expect flavoring like vanilla. Purists I guess, I’m coming here again tomorrow.

Had a good Americano here. Love the décor. Nice marble tables. Bright walls. Small little place. I could see it being good for a friend meetup or a date. No healthy food options, just sugary buttery desserts, all very large and meant for sharing or complete indulgence. The neighborhood is good for a walk, too. Unfortunately, the guy who served me coffee made me feel like an inconvenience, annoying and a waste of his time. So they get one less star. I don’t care how cool you are, sir, I’m still paying you money, but not for an eye roll I didn’t purchase.

I have been frequenting coffee shops more lately in the past year since I started drinking coffee(it’s a miracle I abstained this long). Red Hook is perfectly tucked into a residential neighborhood east of the ren can down Jefferson. Parking is anywhere you can find on the street and there is a lot in the back as well. I have not had any of their pastries or edible goods, thus I can’t comment on them other than I have to use every fiber of self control to keep myself from getting anything. But that coffee though. Fantastic. I get lattes and black coffees there mostly but last time I went I tried a mocha and it was just as good. Maybe the only downside is that they are a bit more expensive than you would find at Starbucks or any chain — but for the rest of the package this coffee shop is worth the extra dollar. Bottom line: If you’re looking for a place to study or read while getting a great coffee this is among the best in Detrot.

Got the iced latte, simple but very good. A bit on the pricy price. Free wifi & plugs above bench… Idk why they weren’t underneath bench, would be more convinient. Idk if it’s my comp or phone but Internet connection was slow and there was only one person besides me sitting down using their computer. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Seriously the best coffee shop in detroit, I’ll drive 15 – 20 minutes out of my way just to get one of their spectacular mochas! Staff has aways been super friendly and helpful. Tables are usually taken up by people on their computers, but I usually just take my drink to go and continue with my day. Definitely worth a visit or ten.

I love this place ! Very nice people. Everything I have had there has been great. I stop in often while walking my dog. Sometimes if they are slow they have even gone as far as bring my coffee out to the sidewalk as I clam my dog down!!! You just don’t find that kind if business and outstanding customer service just anywhere. I am glad to have them in the neighborhood and hope they continue to do great here. Btw, their pastries are to die for. Coffee and a pastries then to the dog park :)

Just a note in response to the negative review above; I am a frequent patron of the Red Hook, in the beautiful neighborhood of West Village, Detroit. Generally upon entering the café I am greeted by an encompassing warmth and sense of welcome. In the few short weeks that the shop has been open I have met people from all over the city, and even the country. I have encountered folks who have been living in the neighborhood for 30+ years who have found Red Hook to also be a place of profound community, style, elegance, and warmth. Not only do they offer fine coffee and espresso, they provide an opportunity for people in the neighborhood to come together, communicate, and find a sense of oneness that is often hard to come by in the digital age of separation that we live in. Go to Red Hook where one can nourish the soul, the mind, and the body. Pretension does not live there.

Excellent espresso, great pastries and it’s all really affordable. As with your usual hipster places the food quality is excellent but service may be slow, seating is limited, and there’s only one bathroom that’s always full. We came here while waiting for a table at Craft Works(excellent restaurant). This coffee shop is certainly a strong competitor to Astro. I highly recommend it.

Red Hook is light, simple and full of good coffee. They use Stumptown coffee. Their selection of baked goods is extensive and the servers calm and friendly. A water fountain to fill your glass is available at the bar and of course internet. There isn’t much more you need. The stone top tables along a full back bench are tiny but enough to work off of. There are probably 8 of them so not enough seating for a large group. Park in the back lot for the back entrance. Want to shake it up? Get your tarot card reading next door.
