Hey, this is a really cool little shop. It’s one of those cool new Detroit places to try. They had 4 or 5 pies when I went, along with some cookies and shortbreads etc. to try. The prices are a little steep. The items were all uniquely flavored. I had a piece of Salted Maple pie which was quite decent — not the best on the planet, but decent. My biggest complaint of all is that they didn’t have any ‘normal” flavors… no peach, coconut cream, apple cherry etc. It was all fancy flavor combos. I’m kind of a simple guy and I tend to prefer the standard type flavors of stuff. All in all, it’s a neat little joint and worth giving a try especially of you’re looking for some unique deserts.

We always make a point to stop and get pie and cookies when we are in town. The peanut butter cookies are the best! Very friendly staff! Get there early if you want a full pie!

I’ve wanted to try this place for ages, and I’m glad I did. We went on a remarkably bitter cold day, so there were only a few other brave souls there. The place is small and simple in a very good way; it felt homey. The baked goods are all out for display and look amazing. I got a few of the grapefruit shortbread and the rosemary sea salt shortbreads as well as a slice of the lemon meringue pie and a savory hand pie with beets, black beans, and gorgonzola. I ended up sharing it all with a few friends, and we all thought the lemon pie was zesty and had good flavor, but the crust was a bit tough. The hand pie was incredible and nothing like what I expected. They balanced the flavors really well and the crust was flaky with the perfect amount of salt. The grapefruit shortbreads were good, but the rosemary shortbread makes me feel like Pavlov’s dog just talking about it. I enjoyed everything I got, and I thought the prices were reasonable.

With a rotating varietal of pies there is always something new to try whe, you walk into this inviting bakery. The staff is friendly and always open to making recommendations. I had a slice of Honey Lemon Meringue that was the best I have had(considering I am not a huge fan). The cookies melt in your mouth. The buckwheat chocolate chip and golden oate cookies were fantastic. This place will make you want to become a regular(as in everyday).

All around a wonderful little place for breakfast or a treat. Staff is friendly and the pastries and pies are worth a couple extra bucks. Coffee is good and the ambiance of the establishment is very adorable and comfortable. Would recommend!

Hands down the best pie I’ve ever had. A friend brought over a brandy pecan pie saying their pies are way better than Achatz’s, I was skeptical as I am a big fan of Achatz’s even though the quality of their pies have noticeably dropped since they went franchising… My goodness, he wasn’t kidding, that brandy pecan pie was the best I’ve ever tasted. Highly recommended. Only wish they had a store closer to where I live.

Cute little place. I love the savory hand pies and the interesting combination of ingredients! The staff could be a little friendlier but overall pretty quaint place to take a friend for coffee and pastries

Give these sisters a gold medal for a pioneering location on the western edge of Indian Village and around the corner from Gleaners Food Bank. I had heard so much about Sister Pie, I made a small detour to try it out as I was riding from GPP to midtown this morning. The bakery was a busy beehive of activity at about 10:30 on a Saturday morning, but they had plenty of friendly staff. Bought an herbed scone, a cranberry bar, and a chocolate/peanut butter bar to take to the brunch I was attending. $ 3.00 each almost seems like a bargain compared to Zingerman’s! All tasty and pretty, but lacked a rich buttery taste that good handcrafted treats should have. I’d give them a 4 star if they had a bike rack somewhere near the bakery. Only a single telephone pole and no trees. They’ve been there long enough to buy a rack or ask the city DDA to put one in for them.

I love it when a place ends up being as good as it looks. I was downtown and decided to take a bit of a detour to finally try this place. The store is located in a semi-sketchy area, but they are truly doing God’s work. They have a wide selection of goodies that made me wish I had three stomachs. I ended up getting the brandy pecan pie and a sweet potato galette. I enjoyed both very much but I know I am only scratching the surface on this place. Suffice it to say, I will be going back soon.

Thank you to Mary Y. for introducing me to the goodness of Sister Pie. Who doesn’t like homemade pie, cookies, scones, coffee cake, muffins, shortbread, hand pies, etc? When we dropped by one Sunday afternoon in November for coffee and sweets we sampled the Apple Sage Gouda pie, Rosemary Sated Shortbread, Peanut Butter & Paprika(at least I think it was paprika) and, my absolute favorite, Buckwheat Chocolate Chip cookies. Next time I visit I’d like to try the Salted Maple Pie or the Brandy Pecan Pie. I enjoyed the cookies so much that I had to buy several for my parents to take home with me(two thumbs up from my parents as well). The ladies at Sister Pie do it right: local(Detroit Farmers Market!), seasonalingredients and really interesting flavor combinations. They do it all with passion, fun and whimsy too. The menu changes pretty much daily. As another reviewer said, I, too, wish I lived closer. But, you can bet I’ll be back next time I’m visiting family in Michigan. They are definitely inspirational too… after looking at their Instagram photos I want to get in my kitchen and start baking Christmas cookies. Oh, and they have a really excellent new promotion called«Pie it Forward,» where you can buy a slice of pie for someone else. Details are on their website. Do it now! Support your local businesses!

On thanksgiving’s day I stopped by Sister Pie and picked up a Brandy Pecan pie for a whopping $ 32.00 to take to my sister’s house. Needless to say I decided to keep the pie and was not pleasantly blown away by the taste. I am a baker and I come from a line of great cooks, This pie was just plain old awful, it had no taste and the Brandy was too over powering. The pie also crumbled when sliced and the consistency was loose. I was totally disappointed considering the cost and all the reviews that this place was unbelievable for having the best pies.

Maybe I was here on an off day or maybe I ordered wrong, but I’m being pretty generous with my three stars. I can bake, and I come from a family of solid cooks and bakers, so I know my baked goods fairly well. I’ve been anticipating my visit to SP for a long while and finally had some time to make the trip out. I ordered a vegan brownie, a shortbread cookie with Rosemary, another Rosemary cookie and a third that tasted like black licorice. I also asked the girl at the counter which pie was the best… she pointed to their apple, gouda and sage pie and boxed me up a slice to go. We went home and sliced everything up and, sadly, I was actually bummed out. The brownie had some high chocolate notes and a gooey texture but the aftertaste was, well, let’s just say not good. The two rosemary cookies were actually pretty good. I make something very similar to their shortbread but mine’s a little more herbaceous and unfrosted. I think I’ll frost mine from now on since theirs was a nice touch and added texture. The black licorice cookie was maybe not our kind of cookie. We weren’t fans, at all. The pie though… kind of disappointing especially the size of the slice for $ 4. The outside ring of crust was super thick and heavy, and there wasn’t very much filling at all. That said, I did enjoy the filling but it wasn’t incredible… the sage threw off the flavor a little. The gouda was unperceivable and I expect it was added to the crust rather than the filling. I like a nice stacked piece of pie with a strata of apple. The inside of this pie was mostly filled with air and collapsed after slicing. The service was pretty good and the shoppe itself is cute, if not super hipster, but I can’t see driving down here again for what I walked away with. I’d like to try some of their other pie variations but I’m not likely to make the trip to their store again. Maybe I can find a few flavors at Westborn to try. And maybe today was an aberration with all the 5 star reviews I see…

Just happened to pass by this place today. Was actually heading towards a Starbucks and was stopped at Parker and Kercheval and saw the shop. I’m in the area frequently, but hadn’t been to that intersection lately. I went in and was amazed by the temptations. The server was very nice and answered all my picky questions about the quality of the ingredients, and I was impressed with the answers. I had the gluten free brownie and the buckwheat chocolate chip cookie. And a coffee to go. Coffee was good, the treats were delish!!! They also make breakfast sandwiches with purple potatoes and egg wrapped up in pie dough. I had a sample– yummy! I look forward to going back and trying the pies and some of the other cookies! I’m so glad I found this place and very pleased that my money went to a new independent business in Detroit as opposed to a corporate giant!!!

Drove 30 minutes for a slice of pie. It was good. I felt good because I don’t actually know how much butter and sugar went into it. Would drive 30 minutes for pie again because I’m fat and like to do fat people things. Blubarb pie was solid. Crust was the best pie crust I’ve ever had. Coconut Cream Pie was also solid. Whip Cream was definitely home-made. Now if we can only get them to make artisanal tacos we will be on to something.

This review is specifically for their cookies. We had the buckwheat chocolate chip and the peanut butter and I’m in love. They were super inexpensive and the shop was really cute. Definitely check it out!

One of my favorites places in Detroit, I try to have weekly pie dates or at least once every two weeks haha. Basically if I go missing and am not at work or home… there’s a good chance I’m a Sister Pie! Pies and cookies are baked fresh, delicious with an interesting assortment of ingredients. Like buckwheat, who has ever made anything delicious from buckwheat?! NOTME. But I dream of their buckwheat chocolate chip cookies. And I also send SP postcards to friends in neighboring states to bribe them to come visit heehee Also it’s a quick bike ride from Belle Isle — twice I have convinced friends to make a quick trip up after a loop around the island and we have been handsomely rewarded with yumminess — just go early, else they may run out of pies and cookies and you’ll be sad!!! Also follow their IG for fun dance videos, pictures of their latest creations and sometimes a daily special.

Chocolate coconut pie. I tried this gem along with a shortbread and a buckwheat chocolate chip cookie. Now I need to try more. This was a surprise treat, made possible by someone evil who clearly knows my weaknesses. I liked the cookies. The shortbread was really different but super tasty. The chocolate chip was hello chocolate chip and so it was bound to be good. The pie though? I LOVED the pie. A true chocoholic dream. I freaking love coconut. I freaking love chocolate. This? Did justice to both romances. A healthy dousing of real whipped cream? Made it perfection. If you do not get theirs make your own. It takes the pie to stratospheric levels. I will be a visitor. Often. Hike or not. I need to try that lemon.

Do yourself a favor and get to Sister Pie. Newly opened in the West Village, Sister Pie is an adorable dessert and coffee shop. Everything, from the service to the eclectic coffee mugs, has a personal touch. My favorite are the savory hand pies, but you’ll want to order one of everything. Just do it.

I wish I wish I wish I lived closer to Sister Pie. I could eat that chocolate coconut pie all day every day. Actually, maybe it’s a good thing I don’t live so close. For my upcoming wedding photos that is! But really, this place is the bomb. The pie is rich and decadent and they use real, thick, whipped cream as a topping. The cookies are buttery and flavorful(standouts were the rose pistachio and the rosemary salted shortbread). Everything was just top notch. Service is stellar. The space is clean, bright and airy. There’s not much seating so be prepared if you come and want to eat in. There’s a big communal table but there wasn’t a spot for my dining companion and I both since there were several people in there with their laptops working. There are a few tables along the side without seats so you can stand and eat your pie. That worked just fine for us. A fantastic spot that’s already knocked it out of the park in the few weeks they’ve been open. Can’t wait to see what’s ahead. And eat lots more pie!
