Well, it was food I suppose. My souvlaki was tough with minimal flavor. The gyro one of the other guests had was ok, probably the best choice that day was the falafel wrap, which was decent. Décor is well, a greasy spoon. With so may other choices nearby, I’d give this a pass next time.

Mediocre food. Nothing fancy. It looks much cleaner than when I used to go in high school. Staff is always nice. I just think the food is ok. There’s is nothing special here to rant and rave about. They have a very typical menu including of course the popular Greek items.

Greasy spoon in Greektown. Its just a regular diner. Couple greek things on the menu. Everytime i go here its btw 2 and 4 am. And I’m a little shnockered. But its been a late night tradition of mine for 20 years. Long live plakas! I always order something with sausage. Tasty. Its been sketchy a few times ive been there(years ago) but now they have security. Greektown always has oddles of cops too.

Decent Greek diner food for the price and great hours for that late night carb craving. Midnight Saganaki is always a great idea! It was hot and delicious and I shoulda have gotten another instead of splitting. We also split the beef gyro that came with fries. Also cause the last minutes of the MSU vs Rutgers game on the TV, which was a plus. Menu looks to have great breakfast options and good prices too — Def a decent place to stop late night diner munchies!

An authentic, divey Greek diner. Probably a 3* around dinner time, but 4* if you are there at 3 a.m. after some drinks. Gyros was stuffed with delicious gyro meat, tomatoes, onions and sauce on the side. Spinach pie was just ok… not very light or flaky. I wasn’t a fan of the Mythos beer. Tasted like a bad, cheap domestic. Service was fast and friendly.

I was in Detroit for a conference staying in the Greektown area. I did not put much effort into finding a quick and tasty meal since many reviews of restaurants were average. I walked by Plaka’s and it seemed to be low key and the menu had many options. I ordered the Greek salad and gyro. My meal was ready immediately and the server was very accommodating and friendly. Everything from service to food was excellent and I would come back here.

Can’t testify to the food, we stopped for drinks. Owner was friendly, service was attentive… but then the waitress tried to steal $ 20 from our group(money we’d given her to pay our check with, which she charged to another party member’s credit card). When we called her on it, she laughed it off a couple times, and when we didn’t back down, she reluctantly gave it back. We’re waiting to see if the credit card charge was voided, because she never gave us a receipt or change… REALLY unhappy!!! Blatantly dishonest!!!

I feel extremely bad for the friendly employees for always being yelled at by there manager/owner. Very rude person, swears at employees in Greek. Also the food here has poor quality. The greek salad doesn’t even look like a greek salad! It was chopped up iceberg lettuce, feta cheese, black olives and dressings. No olives, peppers, tomatoes and no olive oil! The shrimp basket dinner was alright. Service was excellent but food really wasn’t. Last time i will dine in here, I’m not going to a restaurant for yelling and swearing. Try Pegasus across the street from it. Really good food!

After a long day of traveling I found myself grounded in Detroit for the night. Hungry, cold, and getting late I took a cab to Greektown and wondered into this 24hour Greek restaurant. The owner was extremely welcoming and kind, just what I needed after a long ordeal. The food is very good here. I ordered the cheese dish that they set on fire, amazing presentation, and the falafel with housemade hummus. Washed it all down with a traditional Greek beer. Food is fresh and clean here. Quite possibly the best thing to happen to downtown Detroit in a long time.

No real butter and food was bland… If your looking for something quick this is the place, however if your looking for flavor it’s not!

Oreo pie ummmmmmmmmhhhhh amazing Plaka is the place where you can walking any time of the day and you can easily enjoy amazing food I started my course with an amazing actually the best chicken lemon rice soup I ate from an long time and the texture of the soup is nice and smooth just melting in the mouth My entrée is an lamb gyro it’s a mix of lamb ands beef on a flat bread with onions and tomatoes with the frozen fries, they said it’s the best one in the place I felt the lamb and meat was super fresh even at 2 :30 in the morning but bit disappointed with the bread. Ending my late night birthday meal with an outstanding amazing wonderful mouthwatering absolutely perfect Oreo pie Ahhhhhaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh I am just in an food orgasm that the one which I can say by far the best way I have tasted with the Oreo. Will I come back: Yes Value for money: 80% Staff: polite

We came to Plaka’s before a Red Wings game. We were more in the mood for a cheap, fast joint than the fancier restaurants, which had long waiting lines anyways. I got the gyro platter. I received a large amount of beef and lamb on pita with onion and tomato. One gets the choice of rice or fries, and I got rice which is seasoned and came out with a tomato sauce drizzled messily on top. One also gets the choice of salad or cole slaw, and I got the salad, which was a simple mixture of lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. It is amusing that every 10 min or so someone would order a dish that is lit on fire, and everyone shouted«Opa!» The staff is laid back and nice. One pays at the cash register before leaving, if that’s any indicator of the casualness here. The food here is totally mediocre – nothing fantastic, but enough to keep one satiated.

Perfectly serviceable diner. Fast service, warm food, attentive servers, and breakfast served 24 hours a day. Haven’t tried the Greek food as there are many fancier places in Greektown to choose from, but for breakfast(any time of day) I recommend this greasy spoon. It’s a bonus that Plaka is next door to Astoria bakery.

Nothing special nor bad about this place. Good food at food prices with quick service. Ordered a gyro and it was very good. Have been here many times in the past and this experience was right in line with the others. If near greektown and need a quick bite this place will more than satisfy.

For what this places professes to be(a typical Greek diner layout /format), it hits the spot. Looking for a quick bite after the game we chose this spot due to its welcoming atmosphere and short lines. I ordered a gyro sandwich platter with fries. When the platter arrived it was stacked with gyro meat on a grilled pita and topped with the requisite onions and tomato… tzatziki sauce on the side. Flavor was just average(not really great but not bad either), meat was slightly dry. Tzatziki sauce was good, but I prefer a stronger dill flavor. Fries were standard-issue…no extra flavor, shape, seasoning. If you are looking for a quick, reasonably priced meal in the Greektown Casino area this place will do the trick.

When I used to work in Detroit this was a great place close to my office. There would never be too many people in line at lunch time and the food was served quickly. My preferred lunch was a couple Coney dogs and fries, which were inexpensive and really hit the spot. I can definitely imagine this place getting busy on Friday and Saturday nights, just like every Coney Island in the metropolitan area. The food is good, cheap and fills you up. What’s not to like?!

I live downtown and I’m so happy that Plaka is open for me whenever I need a 3am loose burger, a gyro for lunch or breakfast at 7pm! So convenient and I love the late night waitstaff. The owner is such a sweetheart and very welcoming! Their food is well priced and comes in filling portions. The only thing I can complain about is sometimes there’s a wait on the weekends bc they are completely packed but I always wait if I have to, it happens everywhere downtown lol A few of my favorites here: Philly cheese steak, fried mushrooms, loose burger, super nacho appetizer, potato bacon soups on Mondays and fish and chips! Definitely a tradition for my friends and I after bar hopping or the next morning hangover breakfast oh and btw they serve jungle juice, bloody mary’s and beer!

Eating off of the breakfast menu is a much better choice than the dinner items I was choosing before. Solid omelet. But what really tips the scales for Plaka(besides being 24 hours and an equally awesome late night as well as breakfast spot)? They serve bloody marys, and JUNGLEJUICE!!! First off, a 24 hr Greek diner serving booze is just rad. But Jungle Juice?! Yes the red, fruity, sugary, boozy, dump-3-packs-of-kool-aid-some-juice-and-whatever-leftover-booze-we-have concoction that was a staple of my college years is available. And I love it. So, so much. The only thing that makes it even cooler is they serve it in the morning too — so when you need breakfast and another drink to take the edge off the hangover from the night before? Plaka is your one stop shopping. :)
