The food was not very good. It was very bland and rather meh. I got the combo #3. The worst part was on the way out my friend pointed to something on the hostess podium and it was a freaking cockroach!!! Made our skin crawl. None of us will ever be going back.

Awesome place to stop in for some authentic mexican food and drinks. Somewhat surprised with the poor reviews I’m seeing. People complaining about the volume level in the restaurant(of course… there is a nightclub next door). I was a bit put off by the price of my drink, but when I watched the bartender pour my margarita, I understood why. They use A LOT of alcohol in their drinks, so plan accordingly for a designated driver :). The burrito I had there was incredible as well. I go out of my way to come here.

Meh. That is what I felt after eating at Loco’s. It was taco Tuesday, so the tacos were discounted. The place was pretty empty with service being slow. The menu had a great deal to chose from, but no queso. The tacos were basic meat cheese and lettuce. I didn’t like it, nor the pomegranate margarita that I ordered. It was well liquor and served in a drinking glass. It’s a convenient location for people going to sporting events. It’s not a place to go if you want a decent mexican dinner. We left and actually went to Mexican Village to have Super Nachos.

Let me preface this review by saying I used to be quite the fan of Loco Bar & Grill. I work downtown and this used to be a nice place to stop by for a good drink and a quick bite to eat.(Of course if I want really good Mexican food, I’d rather hop in my car and make the 5 minute drive over to Bagley for all the delicious food Mexicantown has to offer.) However, one trip to what used to be a solid choice in a pinch has changed this all for me. I went there with a friend after work on a Wednesday evening. He ordered the deep fried chicken tacos which he enjoyed, and I ordered the chicken fajitas. The chicken was SO tough, it’s what I imagine trying to chew through a rubber tire is like. I’m not one to complain, but it was truly inedible. I had to wait nearly 20 minutes for the waiter to come over and ask how we were doing — at that point, my friend was completely finished with his food. The waiter would NOT accept that I didn’t want anything else in replacement and kept pushing me to get something else. I finally caved and ordered the deep fried tacos with beef. We had a prime seat to see into the kitchen — and what I saw laid the final nail in the coffin. Every single item they made was put into the microwave. When they brought my tacos out, I could tell the beef had been zapped. On top of that, I was still charged full price for tacos I barely ate. Never again will Loco’s have my business. I can get FAR better Mexican — or even Tex-Mex — at dozens of places nearby.

Staff is horrible. Waiter didn’t let us sit before demanding our drink order. Then he screwed up the order when brought it over. Use to love the food here but, I’ll be going to the Detroiter for now on.

Incredibly mediocre food and pretty bad service. You might as well just go to Mexicantown.

The chips are free for dine in. I got take out so paid for them which was cool. They were salty and crispy. The salsa was the star though. Perfectly spiced. Totally on point. Had fried beef tacos. Shell was amazing. Beef… needed more flavor. Overall… I’d suggest it. A tad expensive though compared to other places I been.

Overpriced. We got the tacos and burritos and there was no difference in the two entrees. The rice was undercooked and inedible. The only upside was that the food came out super quick, but perhaps, it was too quick. Took a long time(about 30 minutes) for the server to return to our table for the bill in an empty restaurant.

The Good: Nice and friendly service, Selena music was great. Guacamole is good. They gave me a generous amount of salsa, which is thin, but good enough. I’ve had far worse. Everything else: Carried out for lunch. The food is just OK, which to me means good enough to consume to eliminate hunger pangs; nothing I need to go back for. I got a combination with a beef corn taco, a chicken enchilada, and a beef chalupa. The ground beef looked gross and was in a taco bell-like commercial corn shell. I gave the taco away-could not do that to my stomach. The chalupa looked like a mini taco salad with the same grody ground beef. It had lettuce, tomato, and some melted shredded packaged looking regular old, non Mexican type cheese. I gave that away as well, took off a lil bit of the shell to taste-usual taco salad fried flour shell. The enchilada was nothing special either. The chicken was just shredded chicken in a tomatoey sauce. It was tender enough but did not taste stewed or particularly flavorful. Refried beans and rice were just ok-whatever, not nasty or anything but«who cares». Bottom line: It’s just Mexican food done wrong. My palate did not feel like it left Detroit and went to Mexico or even Texas. I just didn’t taste any chiles or smokiness or anything authentic enough to make it worth eating.

I’d describe the food at this place as what white trailer trash thinks Mexican/tex-mex should be like. My first clue should have been when they brought out my Nega Modelo(A DARK Mexican beer) with a fracking lime in it. I should have walked out then. Next on the table was a thin, weak salsa served with grocery bag tortilla chips. I hadn’t eaten more than two chips before my order was on my table. I wasn’t aware that Taco Bell had re-branded themselves. I was left looking at an obviously microwaved(what was supposed to be a ‘giant’) burrito platter, who’s flour tortilla was the consistency of wet flour dough, bland ground beef, and pathetic flat piles of beans and rice. It’s clear that whoever came up with the recipes for this place has never even been near Mexico — or Texas for that matter. This restaurant is obviously geared towards back-woods yokels who come to the ‘big city’ in order to throw away their money at one of the local casinos. At least they were considerate enough to not charge me for this travesty of a meal. Avoid at all costs!

Decent quantity of food but the taste was only ok. This is a good place to go for late night food after a night out on the two.

I came here for lunch, ordered some wings and tamales. The wings were so greasy and they tasted bad; tamales were small and dry! how can you serve dried tamales to customer? I was told this place has been around for a long time. However, coming from Arizona, I can say food quality here is below average.

For about two months, my friend and I were here almost every weekend! She introduced me to the place, and I’m glad she did. Since then, I have introduced five other people to Loco’s. The fajita chicken quesadilla’s are the best! I haven’t ordered anything else besides those, but I can tell you that they are fantastic. I’m in love with the chips & salsa as well. The chips are nice and fresh & the salsa is perfect for my taste. There was one time I had a problem with being waited on. My boyfriend and I waited a little bit until our waiter came to our table, but any other time the service has been great. I’m definitely a fan of this place & will continue dining here!

I really like this place! It is one of my favorite places to grab lunch. I always come right around the«noon» rush and I’ve never had to wait for a seat, I think because this place is tucked away from the greektown strip a little. They’ll give you chips and salsa. I’ve ordered different things and they are always quick in bringing out the order and stopping by to check in and refill your drink. I think my favorite was the beef quesadilla. The right amount of beef and cheese and sauce and then all the extras on the side so you can prepare it how you’d like. They include lettuce, salsa, diced tomatoes, sour cream, and guacamole. I like that they include the guacamole, I feel like a lot of other places charge you extra. They are also willing and about to split the check without a fuss which is nice, because who carries cash anymore? I do want to point out that this is a Tex-Mex place, not an authentic Mexican restaurant. For that experience you’d be better off going somewhere in Mexicantown a few miles away.

Been here a few times but it has been awhile. Must admit it has not changed much if at all. Good chips and fresh salsa with typical Mexican food that middle of the road. That being said it is a good option for Mexican food if you are in the downtown area. Prices are reasonable and the service was not bad. Place could be a little cleaner but after all is said and done enjoyed the food and in a pinch and want Mexican would try again.

Came here for dinner the other day around 5pm with four people. We were seated right away, the place was basically empty. The booth seat I say in sunk way down and was extremely uncomfortable so I had to sit a little bit close to my mom on that side. Waitress brought out basket of chips and salsa. Nothing special, at all. We all added hot sauce to the salsa which made it way better. Portion was generous, though. For entrée I ordered their steak tacos that came with cilantro, beans, and rice. I liked them, but they just weren’t really my thing. The flour soft tacos were very thin, even with two, that is was practically ripping apart. The flavor just wasn’t there with the soft shells at all. I ended up scraping the filling of the tacos out and just mixing it with my beans and rice and then it was actually way better tasting to me. Overall, cheap, quick, and very filling. You can use comps here to make it even cheaper if you wish.

Just awful! How can you miss up a taco salad? They used lettuce from a salad bag, which took up 2⁄3 of the salad. Also the chips and salsa were disgusting. The chips were stale. Terrible. Just terrible. STAYAWAY!

Had to send my food back to be microwaved. I’m very discouraged as I expect it to be tampered with at this point. Combo tacos is a very difficult option, and shrimp tacos taste and smell very fishy. Sit tiring at the end of my table ice benn hit 3 times to this point. This place is awful avoid at all possible. Go to mcdonalds or any chain place. Do not know waitress name as she didn’t introduce herself. Team was interesting but it was after opening day unfortunately wait staff had no compassion or interest. Avoid at all costs.

Word of mouth at work pegs Loco as a top choice for quick, filling lunch within walking distance. It won’t knock your socks off, but Loco will do the trick to assuage a grumbling stomach. The usual Greektown crowds avoid Loco during the lunch hour except for Tuesdays, when $ 1 tacos pull in everyone from a multi-block radius. Earlier or later arrivals can expect to be seated, served, and settled on any other day of the week. Nonetheless, there’s a quick order station for office workers who need to dash. I chose Loco to meet an associate for a quick business lunch. Specials are thin on the ground — just pork carnitas, that day — and menu prices higher than average, about $ 10 – 15 per person not including beverages. Serving sizes are fairly generous, on par with many suburban Mexican restaurants. Regular drinks, like pop, water, and horchata, come in enormous XL-sized plastic tumblers. I couldn’t even down half on a 90’F May afternoon. Maybe if the Tigers’ pitching staff came with me that afternoon, we could make a go of it. Expect few surprises on a menu peppered by enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, and side dishes in every standard configuration. A thin red salsa(mild) and chips arrived on the table as soon as the waitress had us placed by the window. My friend had vegetarian quesadillas, which she nibbled daintily. My shrimp tacos were generous enough to be split into lunch and a light dinner, served up with refried beans and unremarkably bland Spanish rice. I could’ve used some sriracha or hot salsa to liven up the meal, but I’ve come to understand the American palate generally prefers less vivid textures and flavours. The shrimp pieces were huge, though, no scrawny salad poppers here. Our waitress came by frequently to check on our progress and see if we were ready for the bill. Since we obviously had a stack of paperwork on the table and chatted merrily, we were clearly in no rush. I will chalk it up to the lunch hour and presuming we needed to leave at any moment, but with how many open tables they had, she was starting to become intrusive. At least she smiled about it? Loco rates at a solid 2.5 stars, but I’ll round up to 3 given the dearth of inexpensive food options outside of Greektown row.

Certainly not your best Mexican food ever, but it’s not the worst. Great location in Greektown, walking distance to wherever else you’re going, whether it’s a Tigers game or night at the bar. Tuesdays = dollar tacos. Get there early for lunch if you want a table without a wait.
