A small group of us were looking for a place to enjoy some brunch. We were concerned our group of 8 might be too big to be seated together, but the staff were very accommodating and provided excellent, friendly service throughout our visit.
6 of us went in on a Brady Bunch and were delighted by the variety of delicious food we were able to enjoy. The shrimp and grits were a highlight of the meal.

Before catching our plane we decided to go for breakfast again. They actually had the best chicken and waffles. When we go back to Detroit I definitely want to stop here.

Food and service was fantastic! Highly recommended!

Good service overall. But not consistent on menu items.

This place is family style so be prepared to squabble over what you all want to order because it’s all good. Service was prompt and courteous, food was good. Wasn’t super into the waffles, they tasted a bit sour. Still, good deal for what you get, will be back.

They have an amazing Brunch served family style. The menu is a bit confusing and doesn’t elaborate much on the food but I realized once it was served that the food speaks for itself. I normally hate wings and these were perfectly crisp with real maple syrup and fluffy homemade waffles.
The carrot cake pancakes are a must try. The crepes blew me away, I’m picky about crepes. These were the right consistency and not too thick like many Americanized versions.
Don’t let the smell of your grandparents basement or the slightly disorganized service steer you away. Arrive with some patience and a god appetite. The best bang for your buck with regards to quality and portions!

The best thing I had was the grits. The food I received looked nothing like the photos on the Unilocal page. I also ordered hot tea, and did not get it until the food came. The food came out incomplete, no cream cheese syrup on the carrot cake pancakes or grits with the pancakes and sausage. So I had to wait for the grits and syrup. Which was nothing like the photo, it looked like they heated it up in the microwave and the cream cheese curdled. The excuse given was that they had different chefs. Well just don’t expect you food to look as good as it looks in these pictures.

Everything we had was delicious! Shrimp & Grits… Bananas foster French Toast, fresh omelette of our choosing — very good! Service with a smile. The owner was so nice a kind /​I watched her speak to all the guests ensuring the food good a worth coming back for. Atmosphere is cool and casual but uptown. So far my favorite place in detroit for brunch… jsr

We just left. The food is good, but man the place is chaotic. For only having 12 – 14 tables there were about 6 people running around on top of each other.
Please, slow down. Assign tables to servers before hand and stick to sections. It’s as if no one there had restaurant experience. We had 4 different people approach us and we weren’t sure who got what and was doing what.
It is imperative to know that this is family style Only. If you don’t want to share, don’t go here.

The food was great, however the service was a tad slow and the ambiance needs some updating. I went to brunch with 2 of my friends and we were charged $ 3 extra because we shared the omelette when we ordered a meal intended to be shared, and that little nugget was mentioned no where on the menu. Huh??? Granted, the charge was taken off the bill, but it’s senseless slick stuff like that sticks out in your mind. Make your prices accurate.

So disappointing. I have been here before and can attest to the fact that the food is indeed good, however the service and the operation as a whole could use some attention. I see from some other reviews today that this could just be a bad day, but consistency is most important in any service business.
When the hostess approached she asked if we minded sharing a table with another party. This was surprising, as we have never been asked this before, unless dining hibachi style. We were reluctant honestly, but agreed to the plan if it were necessary, although it was not quite clear to us what we should expect, since we did not observe any other tables with this arrangement.
After being seated, and assured someone would be over to help us shortly, we watched three other parties seated and given water and/​or coffee. No member of the wait staff approached our table during this time. Several glanced over, and quickly darted their eyes away as if to deny they made eye contact.
After the last server visited the table next door without even a nod, we decided to leave.
I really hate that we had to leave, especially considering this is an independent minority owned business, but there is something to be said for the value of good systems, and making each guest feel valued. I have worked in the customer experience space for years, and this is a major opportunity.
A new location that is adequately equipped for the volume of patrons is probably the first step, next I would suggest a facilitated training plan that will establish what the level of service is to be. Good food alone will not cut it.

Unfortunately «the breakfast» didn’t happen here today. This was a return trip after visiting some months ago and having a pretty decent experience. However, today was totally off. Upon arrival we were greeted promptly by a hostess but it was clear that something wasn’t right. First she offered to seat us at the table with other people, um is this hibachi??? I noticed an empty table for two and inquired about it. She then informed me that there was already a party of two waiting and they would have first preference. Ok I can live with that. So we were seated at a four-​top, but the entire time I feared that a random two person party would be sat next to me at any moment.
At any rate, all of this I could have lived with, if and only if I had ever been given the opportunity to just dine. As we sat their we watched servers scramble all over the space walking past our table as we sat flipping the single page, double sided menu several times, so clearly we were considering what to order. We were totally ignored. Who I’m assuming is the owner was peering down on your table from a platform, like an overseer in an old school supermarket, and can clearly notice the lack of service being provided. Not even the complimentary water glass which would have extended our stay, even if we had to wait a little longer to actually order.
I don’t think this can be chalked up to being a new establishment (as I saw in an establishment response to a previous review), general hospitality, care and concern for customers should be an innate trait if you plan to provide any type of service. And to add insult to injury, as we gathered out things to leave, an employee came and took the menus off the table not inquiring about our departure or apologizing for the lack of service, and again the owner stood, watching from above the entire time. sad.

This was my first visit, I ordered out, the waitress was really pleasant. Nice kinda dark cozy atmosphere. It gave me an «old Birmingham brunch spot» kind of feel. I like what I ordered which was the chicken and waffles, grits and shrimp, and creamy corn pancakes, which were amazing. I will try other new spots in the area but will definitely visit again when I have a taste for pancakes.

Had coffee, scrambled eggs, maple bacon, sweet potatoes, wheat toast.

Enjoyed breakfast at this fine restaurant. The service was great, the owner is very nice. Our meal included chicken and waffles, shrimp grits, strawberry waffles, Caramelized banana French toast, omelette, pancakes & iced tea. I really enjoyed the chicken & shrimp grits. I would definitely come back. If their pancakes could match or beat the favor of OrIginal house of pancakes they would be my favorite breakfast spot in Michigan. Chicken and waffles are not pictured because we ate so fast lol

The disappointing part —
This really should be a 4 or 5 star but they took too long time to bring us our food. I typically won’t trip on that but it took that long. On top of that a larger group came in after us and got their food before us. They brought out a couple croissants to try to make up for it which I appreciate but time is time.
The Good part is that the food was great. Like I said this should be a 4 or 5 star review. I got the salmon and sweet potato hash which was way better than I could have imagined. The sweet potato wasn’t overpowering or anything. All the food was great.
I’ll definitely be coming back and updating my rating. I’m confident it won’t take as long for the order next time.
So…I was right. I came back and the service was better. The food was pretty good we ordered an omelette, potatoes and the chicken & waffles.

I like the atmosphere but I can’t believe this place didn’t just open up. I came with my mother, sister and my 1 year old son. There was no highchair so my son had to sit on my lap. The waitstaff I suppose was in training so, I’ll let them slide. The omelette I had was awesome but everything else, eh mediocre. I was honestly looking for a superb experience because of previous reviews but I see you have to truly experience things for yourself. This place has potential…

Such a great breakfast. Came in for Valentine’s Day and got servings for two (Two can play that game) and everything was delicious! Service and explanation of ordering was done with simplicity yet bravado! Waffles are incredible, as well as the maple bacon. I’m sure other items taste good too, so I’ll be coming back to try them.

I decided to try this place out based off of other reviews. I was not disappointed at all. The service here was great! The staff was also friendly. I had the chicken and waffles and the shrimp and grits. Both items were fantastic! This is a little hidden gem that is definitely worth checking out if your looking for breakfast in the downtown/​midtown area.

Very nice atmosphere. My family and I came after church for breakfast. The wait was less than ten minutes. The food is very good well seasoned, I just wish it was served hot, came out warm. I would recommend trying!

My boyfriend and I went here for brunch. It is inside of TV bar and it’s adorable! We each ordered two (so the four altogether).
I had the build your own omelette and added spinach, Swiss, mushrooms, green pepper and green onions. I also had it done with egg whites. I also got a side of house-​made sausage. Everything was great!
The service was wonderful and each person working was extremely polite and welcoming.
I highly recommend checking it out. Next time, I’m going sweet!

This is a hidden Gem! Breakfast only. The cream corn pancakes are the best. The fried chicken wings with the «chicken and waffles» were fabulous, but not always available. Omelette was my favorite. The bacon was crisp and the syrup warm. They recently moved and then venue is small so once people find it again expects lines. Get here before everyone else does. Tell them Frank sent you and ask for Norris… their top waiter. Prices are very reasonable. Enjoy!
