Had Jacques today at the Fisher Bldg. The tacos were ok, nothing to write home about. but good. the guacamole was really good, but come on… bottled salsa. It actually tasted like Pace taco sauce… I think you need to step it up a bit when you are charging two dollars for chips and salsa!

I tried Jacques tacos at the Mo Pop music festival… My first issue was that they weren’t offering tacos, they only had nachos… I like nachos but if you have the word tacos in your name, I would think you would want to showcase that… The chips were incredibly over seasoned and wayyyyy too salty… I ordered my nachos with beef… There was maybe half a cup and almost no cheese on the nachos. Additionally they added a Ton of jalapeños and didn’t strain the juice out, which made almost all the chips soggy. They did have salsas, all which were in little squirt bottles and not homemade. Gross. Needless to say, I think $ 10 for bad nachos is not worth a second try.

Was chilling, having a delicious taco from this place chatting up a crazy crack head that was also eating a taco. I pondered where he got the money for the taco and also wondered if he considered using it on crack before he decided on the more interesting moral choice of buying a taco. The taco was delicious and even though I’m not a fan of the food truck craze I can certainly appreciate this places food and menu.

Absolutely delicious! Working in the Rochester area, you don’t often see too many food trucks. Jacques Tacos is a part of a food truck rally in Troy that happens on the first Thursday of every month — I couldn’t be happier. They have a great variety of tacos, I had the avocado and the chicken and they were both seasoned well and were absolutely delicious. I also got their rice and beans as a combo. With a drink, my lunch came up under $ 10 and I was happily stuffed. Thanks!

Tried them for the first time at the Troy Food Rally today. VERY friendly service, even though I had to wait about 5 minutes for my tacos. I got one chicken taco and one pulled pork, both were pretty good although it was a little strange that the green sauce they put on it is cold when the tacos are not. $ 3 each was not a bad price either. I would check them out again if I see the truck around.

Yum! I was at the recent food truck rally in Dearborn & had the pleasure of eating 2 of the tacos here… one was pork tenderloin & the other beef short rib & both were on a warm tortilla with a tomatillo cilantro sauce, corn & black bean salsa & a Mexican cheese. I enjoyed both a great deal, the meat was tender, the flavors were well blended but the beef was better than the pork. The beef one tasted more meaty where the pork tasted more like the seasoning. The salsa was fresh & added some nice texture, the flavors could have had a bit more punch though. Their chips & salsa were wonderful!

I’m going to keep on driving by. I’m a sucker for good food trucks and probably would stop at a good one even if I just ate and was full. However, Jacques, I tried at the Royal Oak Food Truck Rally and it was almost a one star’er. Maybe it’s because I just had tacos from another truck and had a point of comparison, but after a bite of each taco, I didn’t want anymore. I should probably give them another shot just to make sure that it wasn’t a one time occurrence, but all three tacos were very very dry and flavorless. We tried the pork belly,. chicken, and beef. I didn’t want to finish any of them, so I could save room for other trucks with better food. The only redeemable factor on the tacos was at least they are served on corn tortillas, to be a more authentic taco. Authenticity stops there. That’s it, that’s all they get for their tacos. :( The tacos they bombed on, but they did the chips justice. This was what saved them from the one star review. They taste fresh and lightly covered in a pleasant seasoning.

I couldn’t have been happier to see Jacques Taco set up near the finish line of the Corktown 5k yesterday. What good motivation to finish the race and get some tacos! Although honestly, at the moment I may have been happier just to see the bottled water($ 1.50). My joy over the ice cold water was soon surpassed by the yummy food. First off I was happy that they got through the line of people fairly quickly. They seemed pretty well prepared for the large crowd in Corktown for the race and St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Now onto the food. I got the Braised Beef Taco($ 3) and the Spicy Chicken Tamale($ 4.50). The taco was good but not great, unfortunately the beef was cold and didn’t have much flavor. The tamale on the other hand was delicious! It was moist, well seasoned, and perfectly spiced. The tamales are served with a couple tortilla chips, rice & beans, and a fresh pico de gallo. All very good. Totally hit the spot!

Jacques’ Tacos are somewhat tasty, *very* pricey, extremely small based on the price charged(without any ability to save on multiple purchases or the like) and overall disappointing. Chef Wes seems to believe that because he’s a Michelin-starred chef, he can serve whatever he wants at whatever price point he chooses. To me, that’s a big problem, right there. I’d rather give my money to actual local establishments which have to adhere to actually building a real customer base(and the consequences of such) rather than the Jacques’ Tacos idea of «Well, I’ve exhausted my welcome here with my overpriced, surly-served fare… guess I can move on to somewhere else!» He’s not one-starred because yes: the tacos can taste pretty good. The ridiculously high price for them, however, doesn’t wash. There are far better taco trucks and other types of food trucks out there, even in the Detroit area. Bottom line: don’t waste your time or money here.

I was so excited to try Jacques Tacos. I thought they might give me what most other mexican joints don’t, flavorful tacos that all don’t taste like the same thing. I was wrong! I ordered the beef and the pork taco, and I know they have the same toppings, but the meat just tasted the same as well. Same texture, same flavor, same everything. The toppings were just ok. Like with most mexican places, I find that everything just tastes the same, and especially when you start loading it up with a ton of stuff, it ends up all being the same flavor. Also, as others have mentioned, they are chincy on the protein I think, and the service isn’t the nicest. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here again.

I’d maybe go as high as 2.5 stars, but that’s not an option. I wanted to love it but the taco’s were just… okay. Tried the chicken and the pulled pork. Pulled pork was defintely better and had good flavor. Agree with the other posters that the protein was little light on my taco and the service was definitely a bit apathetic to my handful of money. When your quality isn’t over the moon, sometimes a little personality can help it the rest of the way. Sorry Jacques’, I’m going to keep on driving next time.

Ok. Don’t think Taco Truck wtih Jacque’s. Sucky marks as follows: — Shitty and entirely unfriendly service.(in the manner equated to: «You’re so lucky to be eating my food») — Cold tacos — Small protein portions — Overages with the salsa and other toppings not so sucky marks: the name is the only thing I can come up with. I’d seriously rather go to Taco Bell… and I hate TB.

There’s a great scene in the movie«So I Married An Axe Murderer» where Charlie’s dad explains what he doesn’t like about Colonel Sanders. «Oh, I hated the Colonel with his beady eyes and that smug look on his face ‘Oh, you’re going to like my chicken.» Sub out Colonel Sanders and put in Jacque and put tacos in the place of chicken and you’ll pretty much have my rant on Jacques’ Tacos. The biggest problem with Jacques’ is that it’s trying to come across as way cooler than it actually is. Like the hipster at the end of the bar wearing a trucker’s hat and swilling PBR, there was a lot of thought put into what looks cool, but very little thought into what cool actually is. The whole gimmick of being a high-end food truck that serves tacos would be pretty cool if the tacos were actually decent. Instead, what you get are small portions of bland meats and tortillas that have a funky taste and texture to them. To cover the lack of flavor, Jacques turns to another hipstery trick of overcompensating by loading guacamole to the point where the taco should probably be called a Guac Taco. It was worth trying to say I’ve been there. But odds are, I won’t be back.

I’m still basking in the glow of my first Jacques’ taco truck experience. I will return. My friend and I made the decision to top off our strenuous workout with a few tacos, and it was the best choice ever! I ordered two — the braised beef and pulled pork. The braised beef REALLY stood out, although both were great. The tacos were adequately filled with the meat and the garnishes were plentiful. The black bean and corn salsa was so flavorful — perfect crunch from the sweet corn and onions, along with that velvety feel of the beans. The queso fresco could have been more plentiful, but the avocado sauce was really good. Overall, I honestly felt like every bite was a flavor explosion. No blandness at all! The beef was really flavorful and smokey. My tacos did spent ten minutes in the car on the way home in a blizzard, so the corn tortillas were a little soggy when I got to them, but that’s no fault of Jacques. I’m already planning on when I can go back, they were really fantastic. I think my friend and I will have to have a weekly Saturday workout then taco binge. I’m hesitant to give five stars only because I was a taco truck virgin today, and I need to try the other kinds. I’ll be back. I’d kill everyone in the room for another beef taco…

I finally found the jacques schedule and my path crossed theirs last Saturday [ 1.22.11 ] at 13& Woodward Seeing 6 people in line on a day when the temp was 7 Degrees, gave me «HOPE» that I was in for a treat they get 4 stars right off the bat for using the k.i.s.s. treatment on their MENU *Tacos * made three different ways * rice & beans * chips & salsa + ever brand of Hot Sauce available including Taptio! HOLA! I ordered one Chicken & one Pork I was very impressed with the tortilla and the flavor burst of it & the apparent Multi Grain The mini black beans and Corn were a nice touch I really looked at my 2 tacos in a french fry boat at first & thought«is that it?» but as I drove back to Troy and the aroma consumed the car, I pulled back that clear wrap & nibbled at one Oh MY! do not let the size fool you or disappoint you, it is truly VERYGOOD and gave me a Saturday midday thrill And Hopefully Chef Wes will consider going MOBILE at or near 13& Gratiot by Sams Club some day? or park near Continental Bowling Alley?

I gave Jacques’ Tacos a whirl as I was bored and they have been steadily hanging out near the Belle Tire In Canton. It is conveniently located for me. I was not expecting much though as I have read the reviews here. They are small for the price but tastyish. I like the fresh tasting toppings but it causes a huge mess for the actual eating experience as others have mentioned. What the tacos lack in authenticity they make up for in enthusiastic overstuffing of extra ingredients onto that small tortilla. They were better flavor wise than I thought they would be. They were just good though, not amazing or anything. The beef I had was better than the pork which was a surprise as I am generally a pork fanatic. This pork needed a bit of a kick in the ass spice wise though I think. The chicken was fine I guess but nothing memorable. Take this with a grain of salt as I tend to prefer beef and pork as a general rule. Three tacos filled me up nicely without sides but two alone might not have been enough. I would go back if it were convenient again, if I was not feeling cheap and if I were not dressed up. If you are eating in the car I would suggest a drop cloth and a bib. The tacos overall are messy and spendy but they are reasonably tasty and worth a whirl.

Jacques’ Tacos are OK. Not the greatest thing ever, but pretty much better than anything else you’re going to find at a quick stop in Royal Oak at 3 on a Saturday afternoon. I’ve had the braised beef and the pork. I liked the beef better. The flavors were excellent, the protein substantial as you’re going to get, given the size of the warm corn tortilla shell. It’s a small tortilla, and once you take a bite, the whole thing sort of shifts and you end up with juice running down your wrist and taco meat bunched up toward the end. Mind you, you’re sitting in your car at this point, so you’d better have some napkins handy. Anyway, if I were to make a lunch of this, I’d want 2 – 3 or 2 plus a side of something. At $ 2.50 each, that’s still not bad. For a quick snack in the middle of the afternoon, one is perfect. The food is good. The service is friendly. I’m happy that Jacques is around.

+1 He’s now cooking the corn tortillas! Everything else is a massive letdown for me. Flotsam: I slobbed copious amounts of ingredients all over myself and my car. Jetsam: The mass quantities of corn and beans that came out stayed out, on purpose. They really didn’t add to my taco eating experience. The tacos are small, but I’d venture to say they’re about the same size as Lupitas. So, no big deal… except I’m paying $ 2.50 for each taco, whereas I’d pay $ 1 in Mexicantown. Convenience is expensive! The business has the bone-structure of something that could do really well in the burbs, but I think it’ll take a few more tweaks to the menu before it really takes off.

Jacques was finally in an area close to the office so Carrie K and I took off to check it out. I am definitely one of those people that Janelle labels a ‘sheltered suburbanite’,(I find that funny and so true!) so Jacques was an exciting change from my normal 12 – 1 lunch at Potbelly routine day. I ordered 1 beef short rib and 1 chicken, plus a side of tortilla chips. Hmmm, as others have mentioned, the tacos are so small, it’s more like an appetizer. But I REALLY liked the flavor, as the meat in both of my taco’s were cooked perfectly, and the corn salsa and guacamole made for an excellent sweet pair. Aside from the smallness, another downside was the fact that more of the taco ended up on my lap than my mouth. At first bite, the shell pretty much disintegrated and I was left picking up corn and wiping up guacamole from my wool skirt. I looked like Linda Blair had used me for target practice. I would go back to try different stuff, but I’ll make sure to order more tacos and wear a garbage bag,

Meh. I think that pretty much sums up my experience. The tacos were fine. I ordered the pulled pork and short ribs. They were nothing special and like a few other people have mentioned they are teeny tiny. The pictures on the website are definitely deceiving. Not exactly the quality of product I was expecting from someone that has a michelin star attached to his name. I could go on and on and make this a lengthy review but I just don’t think its necessary. I love the«gourmet» food truck idea. I really do. But I think the only reason Jacques is getting all the attention is because no one is really competing with them. If there were more quality«gourmet» food trucks in the D I think Jacques would get pushed to the wayside.
