Don’t drink wine here it’s all nasty don’t order pizza, it’s hit snd miss and at best it’s edible /: fried food and grilled cheese are basic dive bar options and you get what you’d expect. Dingy dive with ok service. Visit here because it’s close to home and has wifi. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother.

Had a wonderful Ruben there last night during Noël Night. Amazingly they were not packed, the food was great, the service was great, and the prices were great. Normal sandwiches and burgers(bar food). We didn’t drink so no input on the beer menu. Sorry

Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Great place to grab a burger and chill out. Plenty of beer to choose from as well. They make their own corned beef so give that a try.

So it’s a neighborhood dive bar restaurant. Had a great burger special and 2 local beers on tap for under $ 15. Diane the bartender was great and liked to listen to stories. It’s located at the edge of Wayne St U so I guess they get a lot of student business during the week

I figured I should probably update with a more detailed review of this place since it’s so great. My absolute favorite item to order here is the ribs. Fall of the bone deliciousness, probably the best ribs I’ve ever had(and I’ve been to Kansas City). The meat is tender and the BBQ sauce is just the right amount of sweet and tangy. If I’m coming here with a large group of friends, we like to do what we call«appetizers and pitchers». We’ll all order their bite sized goodies and share them with a few(maybe several) pitchers. Regular fries, seasoned curly fries, fried mushrooms, jalapeño poppers, and onion rings. Greasy bar food at its best, and at a great price. The atmosphere is pretty good. You get your mix of hipsters, old timers, and college kids who got tired of the riff raff over at Lefty’s. It’s very relaxed, you’ll feel at home pretty quick. Overall, this is my favorite place in Midtown to grab a drink with food. If I lived closer, this would be my home bar.

This place has a friendly vibe, great service and good food. The pizza is always yummy and the beer is always cold. When I’m feeling like pizza, and not the commercial chain cheap pizza, and I don’t want fancy expensive Ottavia Via pizza, this is my go to place. The homemade secret recipe Greek dressing is one of the best vinaigrettes I have ever had. Great beer selection and fair prices, oh and they have Final Absolution, yes. The middle-aged men who are the bar«regulars» here are hilarious, if you’re in an earshot of their conversation, I promise they will make you laugh.

I love this place. Its a quiet bar with greasy spoon/bar menu items, great drinks. The atmosphere has two modes: quiet dive bar and filled with hipsters. This is my go-to study spot.

Friendly, quaint pub atmosphere! A wide selection of beers and many michigan selections. I highly recommend the marinated chicken breast sandwich and onion rings… very tasty

If you like dive bars, good food, and random conversation … This is for you. More Cass Corridor than Midtown. That sort of thing is refreshing in Detroit. Come see for yourself. Order the spinach grilled cheese. Win.

Circa is a great dive bar. Perfect for college students to sit back and relax with a pitcher and a game of pool. The place is big enough for groups and the staff is super friendly and accommodating. Foodwise, you can’t go wrong with their burger and fries, and with their drinks menu, you’ll always be coming back to try something new and interesting. Prices are also very reasonable with new deals happening often. What can I say? I love this place

I love this bar. Circa fits very nicely into a key niche if quiet friendly dive bar. In a part of town where college kids fill every bar, circa’s emptiness(almost always) is a welcome condition. Cheap beer, and rotating taps that stay around a bit too long. I recommend the veggie Reuben, it’s sloppy and great bar food. The bartenders are like old friends. This is place to come often and a lot. Great neighborhood dive.

Get a pitcher of Blue moon & get your pool on! Jimmy the regular will give you a run for your money — he rules the pool table! Food is okay but environment is Great. Bring your buddies by for a drink!

I loves me a good dive bar. Circa 1890 fits the bill. Located across the street from the Wayne State campus, it’s a great place to drink alone, or with pals. There’s an interesting mix of characters that sometimes frequent the bar, but it’s usually pretty empty. The staff is friendly, the beers are cheap, and although I’ve never had the food, I’ve heard good things. It’s nice to have a place to go have a drink, but not feel like you’re at a meat market. I’ll definitely be back.

Came here randomly after orientation for a graduate student pizza party. Pleasantly surprised. Go Wayne! I had a really nice Spinach and ricotta(?) pizza. Magic 8 ball on iphone foretells way too many carbs in my future upon commencement of studies.

The chicken tenders and curly fries are outstanding. If you need a quick lunch between classes or after work Circa can’t be beat.

They’ve got a killer grilled cheese with spinach and feta. No popcorn for the big game though? San Antonio had it and they blew it. God, I can’t stand Miami!

Went recently and the Circa 1890 Saloon got really cheap on what they give out or don’t. Use to have free popcorn — well, that’s a thing in the past. Oh well. I don’t know why WSU student Unilocalers say it is cheap food and beer, I definitely don’t find that here. Steve hits on the younger women or middle-aged women when he is as old as the Circa!!! His daughter is very nice and friendly. Would I recommend this place, probably not unless you are very very thirsty!

If Wayne State is indeed«Wu Tang University,» then Circa is to Wayne what Old Dirty Bastard; a.k.a. Dirt McGirt; a.k.a. Big Big Jesus, a.k.a. Old Dirty Chinese-Restaurant; was to the Wu Tang. Hoooooooooooo Hayyyyyyyyyy Ha uhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Pros: Cheap food. Cheap Beer. Usually Dead. Cons: Cheap food. Cheap Beer. Usually Dead. Tell shorty they don’t even need to go to Wayne State; tell them to go to Circa 1890, and they get all the urban education they’ll need this year.
