Ok. All I ever heard about this place when I moved into the neighborhood was … «Too bad you weren’t here when it was MS. V’s». I saw the new marquee and decided to give their breakfast a try. Walked in and tried to point out the differences. Wait staff, same. Cook, same. Menu, same. Bathroom, same FILTHY. Coffee, same horrid bitter stuff. TV gone, now just piping in crappy music. Ah, owner different but the same. Wasn’t greeted by her, she never came by my table to introduce herself or to ask if everything was OK. When I was standing alone trying to pay my check she was too involved with some conversation with a customer at the counter. A waitress whom just walked in took my check even before removing her jacket. The waitress’s are still A-1 in my opinion. But they lose a star for basically not doing a D@MN thing except changing the marquee. They did not improve the menu(actually I do believe it’s the same, they just put a new piece of cardboard to cover the River Café). And they took the TV. Will I return … possibly. My car could break down and this place is within walking distance.

It has recently changed hands back to Mrs. Vs(I’m not from around here but this is supposed to be big news) and I decided to give it a try. I arrived about 1:30 and the place was pretty dead. I got a nice greeting and was seated. There were some specials on a board and some other specials in the menu, all were about $ 10 including soup or salad and dessert. I ordered Chicken Parmesan. The salad came out lettuce, 2 cucumber slices and a tomato wedge, pretty ho hum in my book. The entrée soon followed, The chicken was whole breast and freshly prepared but it wasn’t pounded out, too thick and tough. Spaghetti was about 10 minutes past Al dente, served with meat sauce, I thought that was odd with the chicken. It was homemade but had an odd spice for Italian sauce. Waitress checked in 0 times during my meal. Rice pudding and the check for dessert and I waited for several minutes at the cash register for someone to ring me out. The restaurant vibe was off somehow. It was very quiet. I will probably go back and try breakfast because the food I received was home cooked it just didn’t really wow me at all this time.

I’m giving it a 5 star review because it is once again Mrs. V’s and Vicky has taken ownership back of her restaurant. Food quality improved immediately. The atmosphere is once again fun, light, and friendly! Debbie our server is always on point and quite the character! We will once again become regulars! WELCOMEHOMEVICKY!!!

Another post-work breakfast stop for me. The food was OK and the service was acceptable — nothing to be wowed about but not a bad experience either. It’s funny though, reading some of the other reviews — especially about the owners/managers… in thinking about my experience there, I noticed some of the very same things. Nothing directly concerning me, but I have little doubt that the absence of attentiveness to customers as well as clashes with staff happens.

This was actually a lot better than I was expecting it to be. We stopped in because it was air conditioned and all the other 5 stars listed in the area were outdoors(it was 90 degrees). The wait staff was VERY kind. The soup was a large portion, but very tasty. Could have been the entire meal! Strange the bread was in individual sealed bags… I didn’t eat any. I had the ruben sandwich. It was really good. And the fries were«the good kind» as they were very crispy and not greasy. My iced tea glass was never empty. All in all, I wasn’t disappointed.

I tried to have breakfast at this restaurant. The waitress was swearing very loudly because she was frustrated about something. She brought coffee and a menu and that was the last I saw of her. I waited 20 minutes before paying for my coffee and leaving. There were other employees including the host or owner. No one bothered to ask if she had taken my order, which she had not. One could her her loud voice complaining the whole time. There were only 2 other tables occupied at the time, so this staff was not stressed. I hope something efficient and good opens in this area. Honda customers like to eat somewhere nearby while waiting for their cars to be serviced. I will not enter this«establishment» again.

I used to dine here when the management was different and I have to say this was the worst service I have ever had my mother got the wrong order I had asked for a refill on my drink and never received it my uncles order was burnt how do you burn an omelet the wait staff fought over who was going to take our party in front of us and then proceeded it ignore our table I had to get up and ask a busser for a cup of coffee this was by far the worst service I have ever experienced

This was my first time at River Café and I was pleasantly surprised. We went on a weekday morning, so crowds weren’t an issue. A very nice gentleman greeted the 3 of us at the door and seated us right away. The waitress came right over, asked about coffee, and promptly came back with the carafe, poured us all a cup and left the rest right on the table for us to help ourselves. She took our orders right away and didn’t roll her eyes or anything like that when we asked for separate checks. The breakfast was really good and straight forward. I had french toast, over easy eggs, bacon, rye toast. Everything was cooked just right, as was my friends’ meals. The waitress checked in with us a few times, checking to see if we needed more coffee, etc. I will definitely be going back again.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for 20 years. First when it was the River Oak Café, then Mrs. V’s, and now River Café. I’m so sad to say that I won’t be back. The décor has been gutted in an attempt to look modern, but instead looks barren and generic. All the former kitsch and warmth are gone & have been replaced with a smaller menu & higher prices. On this Wednesday morning there is one waitress and one cook working their tails off serving 15 teenage boys while two older gentlemen putter around doing nothing to help them or the other neglected customers. She tossed my food on my table with such force that it literally slid toward me because she’s so rushed. I planned to take half my omelet home, but even if the grease congealing underneath it didn’t deter me, I’ve given up hope of being asked if I need a box. I even got a shot of the manager leisurely fixing himself a cup of coffee behind the counter while I sat across from him being ignored while this poor waitress did nothing but run back and forth for these teenagers. See ya, Mrs. V’s. You used to be so awesome. I’ll miss you.

Tried this joint once before and wasn’t really into it but thought I would give it another stab. This time not only was the food not very good, I watched the wait staff recycle the bread from the bread baskets that they put on your table. One click took it off of one table and put it back in the warming drawer and another worn out waitress grab it and put it on another table. Any place that has to recycle food is going to last only till a botulism outbreak! Makes me wonder what else they Recycle!!!

New owners of this long time Mrs V’s. Food good and service decent. But can’t give it five stars since this week we came for breakfast and the gentleman who is probably the owner walked right past me standing at the doorway and didn’t acknowledge me, yet acknowledged another male customer who was approaching the register. So a woman waiting to be seated is less important that someone coming to pay their bill? I would suggest that it’s 2015 and it would be smart to acknowledge female customers as they are the breadwinners in today’s society.
