Have ordered twice from here. First time was just some fried rice and chicken fingers. It was alright. Ordered a dinner plate last night # 14 Hon Sue Gai, beef teriyaki, egg roll and pork fried rice. When I looked up what Hon Sue Gai was, it said it was breaded and fried chicken sauteed with vegetables. When I open it up, it was basically chicken fingers drenched in a brown gravy. There was nothing crispy about it due to it being drowned in gravy. It was a soggy mess. The egg roll was way overcooked and so greasy. The I don’t care about this educational crap. Get the show on the road. good part was the pork fried rice and beef teriyaki. Will not order from here again.

I can remember years ago this place being good. Have ordered a few times over the last year and it’s been disappointing. It seems impossible to get decent Chinese food in this town.

Firstly, it’s not Dim Sum at all, it’s a generically attached name. It’s in an old house with no seating and they only do takeout. They don’t deliver. Why? No idea. The food is expensive and MSG laden and greasy, fatty and improperly cooked. The woman who owns the place is known locally as the«Dim Sum» lady and known and mocked for being terribly rude. There is no reason to come here ever and I have no idea how they stay in business given all of the above.

We used to eat here all the time before China Garden came to town. We still go back once in a while since my husband loves their chicken fingers… the kind with the really puffy batter which he prefers. My favorite menu item would be the hot and sour soup. Their broth has a unique flavor, not as vinegary as most, but sweeter, with a good amount of tofu, pork, and mystery vegetables or plant life or whatever you call it(bamboo shoots? some kind of lily? not entirely sure what I am eating). There are lots of hot red peppers in it too which makes it nice and spicy. We also enjoy the candy-like sauce that comes with the sweet and sour chicken, the chicken fried rice, crab rangoon, and teriyaki. Regarding the bad service reviews, the lady we usually order from has been nothing but kind and always gave fortune cookies to our son while we waited… so no issues there at all. Best to call ahead and take it home, as it is a tiny building with not much for ambiance.

We recently moved to Derry and since this place is close by, we decided to check it out. I had chicken chow mein, boneless ribs and fried rice in a combo dinner. The chow mein was very bland and sort of watery. I needed both soy sauce and spicy mustard to liven it up. The boneless ribs were so fatty, I couldnt eat them. My friend had some sort of spicy chicken and veggies in a sauce, it was pretty good but a bit greasy. Exterior of the restaurant looks decent, but inside is sparse and for take out only. Windows and doors look liike they havent seen Windex in years. I will be exploring other options in teh town and probably wont go back to DIm Sum.

Very pricey. Their egg rolls are good though.

Let me start by saying that Dim Sum has been an absolute favorite of mine since the late 80’s. But, when the economy sank, so did their quality. I’ve ordered plenty of times just to make sure my taste buds were still intact! LOL The crab rangoon. Undercooked. Different taste to it even when adequately cooked. The spareribs. Well, they’re usually nice and red/pink(darker on exterior, lighter on the inside). Not lately. They look like meat well done or spoiled, very dry and darker brown. Don’t taste right at all. The fried rice is hard, like it’s undercooked. Yuck! China Garden, down the street, is a better choice these days.

General Gau’s was the best I have ever had — ever. If this was based on that alone, it would be a 5 star rating. The one star is lost for 2 things… crab rangoons were bad… really bad. Completely soggy and without flavor, even the one that wasn’t soaked. We got dinner specials and it was sloppily piled so that 2 of the crab rangoon and all of the chicken fingers were soaked in beef sauce.

OK, let me begin by stating which items I am going to base this review on. This review is for the appetizers, lo-mein and fried rice… you know the typical«It’s not Chinese but us Americans think it is» Chinese food. Remember the stuff? Bursting with fat, no idea what the meat is, I’m craving something that is totally unhealthy…, goodness! Every food place has this type, Outback has the onion blossom, Asian and Mexican have fried ice cream etc. We know its bad but have to get it once in a while. Don’t get me wrong, I prefer real dishes to this type of food but when it’s Pu Pu Time, this is the place to go. My family has gone out of their way for this place. The ribs are just sweet enough but have plenty of meat. Not too much fat, just enough to make you want more. Shrimp! Not the typical horseshoe shaped deals like other places but long 6″ shrimps with crispy batter. Wings…mmmmmm wings(drool). Meaty, salty and savory. I want more. Egg rolls and crab Rangoon. Just enough crunch and filling on both. God, I’m ready to call them now. The lo-mein and rice have that flavor(it’s probably the MSG) and aroma which follows it from the fork to the mouth. Its a weird taste sensation, Its probably the«fifth» taste, «Umami» which is an appetitive taste and is described as a savory or meaty. Anyway, the next time you crave non traditional Chinese and you are in Derry, check this place out. Our running joke is «just eat it and never ask to see the kitchen» Like the guy said in a previous review, the kitchen is too the side in a different room.

Rates up there as one of the worst Chinese restaurants I have eaten at, and there have been many. I actually threw most of it away. I have never gone back and would not recommend them to anyone. The food was absolutely disgusting.

Can we say MSG? Located across the street from McDonald’s, this basic Chinese takeout place is strictly takeout with Coke vending machine and order counter. The kitchen is tucked away in the next room. The menu offers the basic Chinese dishes plus Mandarin dishes and 27 Combination Plate Specials($ 5.25-$ 8.05 plus tax). I rolled in here around 9:50ish on a Saturday night to order some takeout. I ordered Combo 1-Pork Egg Foo Yong, Chicken Fingers, Egg Roll, Pork Fried Rice($ 5.25) and Combo 26-Szechuan Noodle($ 6.05) and the food was ready in 10 minutes. Okay it was 10:00PM closing time, the OPEN sign still lit up, and as I got my food, an old lady came in and here we go: OLDLADY: I wanna order some food! CHINESELADY: Sorry, we close. OLDLADY: You’re still open!!!(pointing to the lit OPEN sign) CHINESELADY: Kitchen just close, OLDLADY: You’re OPEN and I’m HUNGRY!!! CHINESELADY: Okay, okay, what do you want? (OLDLADY goes over menu) CHINESELADY: We’re out of spareribs. OLDLADY: Get me an order of beef and peppers, shrimp with lobster sauce… (I exit the place) I drove home and my car really reeked of Chinese food. I begin eating my dinner and the food tasted decent and very messy, especially the Szechuan Noodle which had lots of salty thick pork sauce on top of spaghetti noodles. There was a lot of food, so I put the food away and quickly fell asleep around 11:30PM. I woke up almost 12 hours later, the next morning at around 11:00AM. Boy that Chinese food must’ve had lots of MSG to do that to me. My place reeked of a strong odor of Chinese food for a few days and I needed to open my windows to air my place out.
