Just finished eating here. The tacos are good, but not great. Far better than Rusty Taco but not even close to Torchy’s Tacos. I had the Pork taco, the Barbacoa Taco, and the Chicken taco. Also tried the Chips and Queso. The Chips and Queso was very good. Needs to be about half the price though. You hardly get any queso. The Pork taco was okay. The pork had little to no flavor. The roasted pineapple-habanero Pico was very tasty, but the taco needed quite a bit more of it. The Barbacoa taco was good. I would have liked a tad more of the refried black beans. It was barely smear on the tortilla. The Chicken taco suprised me. It was my favorite of the three. I rarely get chicken tacos because they usually lack flavor. However, this one was excellent. I think the tacos are about a dollar overpriced for the size. They have Tortas too! I love Tortas and I would like to get back there one day to try them. Mostly to compare them to others I have tried. They are also way overpriced though. $ 9-$ 12 for a Torta is RIDICULOUS!!! I hope they read this and seriously consider making a few changes.

I always make a point to lunch at Flatlanders when I visit Denton. Great food and service. A hidden gem off the main streets, you’ll be rewarded for your adventuresome spirit with some of the best food in Denton. I haven’t had a menu item yet that hasn’t exceeded my expectations. Check out the specials! Everything is made to order so be prepared for a few minutes wait. Typically there are short lines, but unless this place remains a secret, and I’m not sure how that’s possible, be prepared for a few minutes in line. You’ll need it anyway to make a menu decision!

I give this place five stars just because they serve their breakfast tacos ALL day. Also, they have something for everyone. The churros are awesome if you just want a sweet treat. I would recommend this place to anyone!

My first trip to Flatlanders. OakStreet was offering a free beer if you showed proof of $ 10 food at Flatlanders so I thought, what the heck. The small restaurant is causal environment. The place was clean, and a trendy atmosphere. Service was slow the day we went. Took about 5 min for the cashier to come out, and take our order. My wife and I were the only customers there at that moment. We placed our order for a chicken taco, steak taco and gringo especial. It then took about 20 minutes to get the food. My first impressions about the food was it looked and smelled fresh. I can’t recommend the $ 4 queso(the gringo especial) that was a very small portion, and just average taste. The prices of the Taco were very reasonable price, under $ 4 and the flavors of the tacos were delicious! They also offer Taco Tuesdays and you can get 3 tacos for $ 7. Like everything around the square, parking depends on the time and day of the week. I find the free parking lot in front of Oak Street Draft House to be the easiest, and it has available spots almost always. I also liked how you can get your tacos to go, then go across the ally to eat and drink on the outside patio at Oak Street Draft House. It’s mutually beneficial to both establishments since Oak Street doesn’t have food and Flatlanders doesn’t have alcohol. I will be back to Flatlanders try other favors, and hopefully the service will be a little faster next time.

Rustic, industrial interiors make this a new, cool taco joint in Denton. Super flavorful and fresh food. We got two tacos, a torta sandwich, and chips and queso. The décor is really well done. Lots of beautiful wood, steel, Mexican tile art, and gorgeous chairs. All the walls are exposed brick and there are many open rooms to dine in, as well as a small patio courtyard. They serve coffee all day, which I’ll come back for soon. It’s also BYOB. The food is a little pricey but it’s very fresh and made to order so I say it’s worth it.

This place earned every star. Comfortable, clean, friendly, and dedicated to what they are doing. Honestly, one of –if not– the best Mexican food place in Denton. I’m willing to pay a little extra to get food that’s fresh and ingredients that are equally as fresh. No e-coli here, unlike your beloved chipotle where you’ll spend $ 12 on cold tacos and guacamole with stale chips in a greasy brown bag. Just sayin. And they added a taco Tuesday with 3 big enough tacos for $ 7. And once again, it’s fresh and tasty. Still sayin.

Awesome job with the décor in the building, but I cant afford to fill up on these little tacos. I got the chorizo and egg taco along with a cactus taco, and to justify the price, they needed to taste really amazing — taste was a 5⁄10. Maybe I just got the wrong menu items.

Way too expensive! The tacos were only ok and way too small for the price. Staff was not very friendly. Restaurant was kinda fun but odd. We will not be back unless they lower their prices. Fuzzy’s is right down the road and has cheaper, tastier, and larger tacos.

I love you guys, but you’re never open when I want you to be! Breakfast tacos are for breakfast! Not lunch! And the rest of the menu would go down so well late night, especially after a drink or two. And why is there that one day of the week that I always forget you’re closed until AFTER I’ve searched everywhere for parking on Hickory?! I need that avocado sauce more frequently than you are currently providing it! If it’s a clientele quantity problem why don’t you host some events or get a liquor license? You could even host daytime events in the literary or arts communities without alcohol. You have a fantastic space for that kind of thing. Come on, I don’t want you to close!

Steak taco was pretty damn tasty, avocado taco was decent. Ingredients are fresh and delicious but these are waaaay too small for the price. :( I think they are banking on tipsy customers next door buckling under the smell… and they are probably right to do so!

I’ve been addicted to Flatlander’s Tacos since their food truck hit the streets in Denton. Now, I’m addicted to the Tortas! The burger, beef, breakfast — all of them are so good! You can tell the difference between other taco shops and this one where everything is made fresh that day, from scratch. The staff is always friendly, atmosphere relaxed and restaurant clean!

Obviously they are not authentic Mexican tacos but the concept is there. Way way too expensive for what you get. The barbacoa was way too salty and the pico de gallo was not as fresh as I thought it would be. I’m better off going to rusty taco or better yet la sabrosita! FYI: I do love the décor of the place :)

Fantastic tacos, and the Guajillo burger is an unexpected treat! Everything is homemade, and fresh. The atmosphere is a stripped down warehouse with smaller rooms for privacy. This place is cool! The salsa is spicy, and fresh like everything else. With its food truck humble beginnings, this place will stick around a while. Owner is actively involved and the staff is very service oriented. Enjoy the best tacos in Denton!

Great tacos!!! I would have gave this place 5 stars but they are very stingy with the chips and salsa(who ever heard of paying for extra salsa?). They need the have a salsa bar, and the chips(Tostidos) need to be inclusive. Drunk College Kids are your main clientele in this area, if you don’t cater to them, you won’t be here very long…

The tacos were okay, but they were simply way too expensive for what they are. They’re small, and a bunch of them cost $ 4. You can literally get larger, better tacos at the taquerias down the street for $ 1.75. I was excited to try Flatlanders, and it’s not that it’s terrible. But the cost to food ratio is crazy. They might be the most expensive single tacos I’ve ever had.

This is a remarkable gem. I would choose this taco spot over all others in the area. They also have coffee, tea, and tasty baked treats!!!

I have been dying to try Flatlanders ever since they opened! My partner and I go to OSDH all the time and as soon as the sign went up its been on my list. So after a long and hot day in the sun we went in! Great atmosphere, very cool and Dentonesque furnishings. That ends where I was impressed. The prices were double then at the other two taco joints nearby. And they were tiny! Little baby tacos. Granted, they were very full… I had a chicken and barbacoa, my partner had barbacoa and pork. I highly recommend the barbacoa, the pork was good, and the chicken was average. We also had the house salsa and chips. It was weird! Since the other salsa is avocado based I expected it to be a red salsa but it’s green– and mouth on fire spicy– and I bathe in hot/spicy stuff. A warning about that would have been nice, especially since we only had waters. But all that aside I still would’ve given the place 3 stars. I knocked off a star for the service. Although everyone was friendly, there was zero line control and 3 – 5 people went ahead of us even though they hadn’t been in line. One of the cooks came out and gave some dude a bear hug which made me uncomfortable. The cashier miscounted our money and told us we hadn’t paid enough– definitely did and it was embarrassing. We had to bus our table before we sat down. After finishing our tiny tacos we went to Rustys for another one at a better price, a marg, and the patio. Totally want to see this place succeed but it’s need cheaper prices and better staff training.

another taco shop?!? I love tacos. I’ve tried tacos at probably close to 2 dozen spots in Denton so far, and these guys have the potential to be the best taco in town. Normally I give new restaurants at least a month to work out the kinks before giving a visit, but we stopped in for a bite after the social run last week and was pleasantly surprised. The location is non-descript, you have to know where to look. But that’s the definition of a good hole in the wall, right? The vibe on the inside is kinda cool, it wasn’t busy at all which I guess is good and bad. you want to feel part of the action, but not have to wait for your food. The visuals, décor, furniture are a cool style that i think fit Denton really well, especially hickory/industrial. When I saw the prices I was like«whaaaaat», thought we had another case of rustytacoitus if you know what I mean. The proprietor assured that they are more filling, so I tried a few. They are more expensive per taco than you might expect, but you’re getting really good value — they stack them full of the goods(NOT cabbage!). When we got the tacos, the tortillas were bulging full. I mean as full as you can get. That was pretty cool. I’m a big eater, without sides(after a nice jog) 3 tacos was right, but with sides eating a little lighter 2 tacos would probably do it, which puts you under 10 bucks. NOW for the reasons for 4 stars… the flavor and quality was TOPNOTCH. The meat, the sauces(which were the perfect amount, just enough for flavor, not a sloppy mess), veggies, everything. You can tell the difference between quality meat that has been treated well, marinated, cooked with attention. The flavor made most other taco shops in town seem like they’re serving dog meat(nothing against dogs). But I think they can notch it up in tortilla size. Next time I’m trying a torta which they are now making. I’m stoked for these guys, I think they’re going to be a good spot to get great food for a decent price. Check it out! ** EDIT ** After visiting a few times now, they are definitely a solid 5. Great food at a great price. Best tacos in town. Fantastic staff. NEWFAVORITE!

The Denton Flatlanders Taco Co. is OPEN(select hours atm) and the veg tacos are DELICIOUS! Chipotle tofu, avocado, and pineapple chickpea… better step your veg game up Fuzzy’s and Rusty’s! Flavor was perfectly balanced and the chickpeas and tofu weren’t overcooked. Gluten-free and vegan options! Lucky to live in such a vegan-friendly town. Love the décor, just watch your step when you leave: P
