This place was a great place to go for a home cooked meal while I was in college. Really good breakfast. Gets very crowded.

Great tradition and interesting place, but NOT open Sundays as indicated by Unilocal! I took a small geology class to Thomas’s in the 1980s, when octogenarian Miss Lottie Thomas was still the cook, waitress, and manager. There were 8 of us and she did not write down a word of anyone’s order. She then filled every order in reverse order. She did not make a single mistake, but the last to order was served first, and the first to order waited about 80 minutes to get his lunch. A buss-boy watched every step, but he was not allowed to do any food preparation in Miss Lottie’s kitchen.

Lots of entrees for $ 8 and all come with 2 sides and white or wheat roll or cornbread. Highly recommend cornbread as it was killer. Ham, chicken, pork, pasta. Vegetarian plate, tons of sides and probably 8 kinds of homemade pies. Worth using GPS to find!

I wouldn’t call this a barbecue place at all. Cafeteria style restaurant. Amazing value! Everything was delicious food was all home made. My meal was great. Even my super picky 9 year old cleaned her plate in here.

A local dining establishment that is as every bit as charming and quaint as downtown Dayton. You know it is good when a place is filled with locals! Simple foods for breakfast(pancakes, omelettes, chip beef gravy, etc) and quite the variety for lunch and dinner(main course and your choice of two sides– there’s always 10+ to choose from!). Head to Thomas House for a home cooked meal in a family-like atmosphere.

This place is pretty odd, in a «where did I just step into» sort of way. The exterior is quite mysterious and ivy-cloaked, suggesting perhaps a prim bed-and-breakfast, but the interior is far from it… rather, it’s like a cross between a bustling cafeteria line and a cramped Denny’s. As others have mentioned, the true spectacle is the atmosphere: maybe it was the heavy wood accents, but I felt like a fiddle band and foot stomping should have been in order. Feel free to take a free Christian-material cassette on the way out.

Authentic country cooking including a variety on the breakfast menu to include pon haus(scrapple) and real country sausage. Breakfast and dinner are sit down affairs, while lunch is served in a walk through lunch line style. Food is always good home cooked style and I have never walked away hungry. Prices are more than reasonable.

I live in Dayton and this is one of my very favorite restaurants! Good homemade food, nothing fancy but delicious none-the-less! And very affordable!

Thomas House is about as authentic and as real as it gets. If you’re looking for locally owned, homemade cooking with southern hospitality, this is the place for you. It is the definition of comfort food. Thomas House is a traditional«meat and two» where you choose the meat(which may sell out depending on how popular it is that night) two sides(there are about 25 to choose from) and your choice of a roll or cornbread. I would highly recommend the cornbread. Most importantly, get the peanut-butter pie! It is excellent! Overall, the food is good(nothing fancy) but the atmosphere and prices really make Thomas House great. Breakfast is average diner style breakfast, Lunch is cafeteria style, but dinner is served. The prices are excellent, and the food always tastes fresh. The service is always wonderful(if you’re lucky you might get a nice Old Order Mennonite girl as your waitress). The Shenandoah Valley and Thomas House should go hand in hand.
