Expensive for what you get. The sushi wasn’t too memorable and not very fresh, but it was conveniently located right next to UC Davis campus. The seating is a bit cramped and tight if you sit inside.

Really sad to leave this review since the girl who works here is awesome. The sushi we ordered was… not good. The kimchi spicy soup we ordered was… worse than the sushi. I couldn’t do it. Took a tums and drank tea as soon as I got home. I didn’t get to try their ramen or other soups because they were sold out. However they did have 1 dollar sapporos which were the highlight of the whole experience.

The best thing about Oshio is how close it is to campus. Their food is affordable, but the quality and taste is only ok. Their service is also very slow, so don’t come here if you want a quick meal. Last time I went I got Bento C, which includes popcorn chicken, salmon sashimi, and a California roll. Popcorn chicken was the best thing of the bento, it was cooked well, portion was big, and sauce was good. Salmon sashimi was really disappointing, there were 3 tiiiiny pieces. It didn’t taste fresh either. California roll was horrible. The rice was mushy and seemed unflavored, and I couldn’t taste the crab at all(it was also mushy). I’ve had their ramen too, which is also just ok. I wish I could like this place, but the food is so disappointing.

I been here multiple time because it’s walking distance from UCD campus. I would only go here for convenience. The food quality is below average. The sashimi is not fresh. I would not be coming back again.

Took over 45 min for our food! And the portions that we got, were extremely small(a lot of rice and barely any of fish) I’d maybe give them one more time… If I had an afternoon to burn lol

Pros: Great service and staff Convenient for a quick lunch between classes Cons: Miso ramen was average and not worth $ 7 I could make better ramen at home

Just to clarify, I think this place is a 3.5 stars, but because Unilocal won’t let me do that, I gave it a 4 stars to bump up the average… Anyways, this place seems a little unprofessionally managed and run, but overall it’s pretty good. The food quality for the price is spot on. $ 5 happy hour is pretty awesome and the daily specials have also exceeded my expectations. Been here about 5 – 10 times and its been consistently great every time. For a quick Japanese food fix in Davis, this is probably the best out there for the best price.

This place always has slow service. My friend and I came around 12 pm and there weren’t many other customers. We both got thai teas and I got a chicken teriyaki bowl– a simple order you would think. It took 15 min for the teriyaki bowl to come out and it took another 10 min after that for our thai teas. I had to remind them more than once that we were waiting and when they finally brought my tea out, they only gave us ONE. They had forgotten that we both wanted thai tea. That’s a 25 min wait for thai tea. Are you kidding me? All in all, it wasn’t worth the wait because the tea wasn’t even that sweet and my teriyaki bowl was about as good as a microwavable one.

What happened to this place?!? It used to be my go-to place whenever I want somewhere close to campus to eat. And their bento used to be quite decent too. Today, I got a bento box with chicken Katsu and salmon sashimi, it was a DISASTER!!! First off the sashimi was still frozen and not fresh. good thing there were only 2 tiny pieces. Second, why would you pour so much sauce on the Katsu?! What if I don’t like the Katsu sauce… =.= too saucy and too little chicken too much crumbs. This is my first time giving a one star review ever. just so disappointed and upset.

Ramen and Udon here suck! Ramen was instant bag noodles with some veggies thrown in. Udon was very bland tasting. Save yourself money and just go get some from a grocery store and pour in your own hot water.

Went there during happy hour(sushi rolls) raised the prices though– $ 5.50 We had the Red Dragon roll, Sexy Sexy, Super Spider, and the Lion King. Red Dragon and Sexy Sexy are spicy but not drinklotsofwater spicy. My friend and I were surprised at the taste and quality of the food at such a low price. They didn’t use super cheap ingredients to make it. Outdoor seating was great except for the constant flies swarming around our sushi. But still a great place to socialize and it’s not too busy. Reason that its not 4+ stars is the wait, 20+mins.

Korean Bulgogi Fries — 3⁄5. A-OK. Not amazing, but the fries were crisp(albeit cold) and the meat was tasty :] Bi Bim Bap — 2⁄5. Wasn’t quite the standard bi bim bap that I’ve gotten from other restaurants, but was alright. Wouldn’t recommend it, but wouldn’t avoid it. Luckily, it was a «daily special» and saved $ 2!

I consider myself a reasonable diner. I eat just about everything. I wouldn’t eat here again if you paid me. Do yourself a favor and do not go here for anything. I don’t even think alcohol will solve your problems if you’ve eaten the food here. Believe me, I love to give the benefit of the doubt for every place I head to and writing a scathing review is not what I want to do. I cannot find anything here. Nope. Nope. Don’t go here. I’ve eaten here a few times with friends and once alone. If you order anything here, you can guarantee that so many shortcuts will be taken and the wait is just about as long as it takes for me to wait for my dentist(about 30 minutes). If you order sushi, look forward to plain, unseasoned white rice with sashimi/avocado unceremoniously thrown on top. Any other Japanese dish? It’s frozen or instant and then reheated, practically. Oshio is constantly running out of supplies as well so when dishes are sold out, they are sold out… though how they are sold out is a complete mystery to me. If you want Korean/Japanese food, please take the effort to hike out to the other places in Davis. They’ll at least care that you’ll like your food.

Happy hour drinks from 3pm-5pm, and 5 dollar rolls after 5pm! Can’t go wrong with 5 dollar rolls. The only reason why I gave this place 3 stars is because the food comes out pretty slow. It wasn’t busy at all and my Rainbow + Lion King roll still took about 20 minutes. The best roll by far is the Lion King roll. The outdoor seating is nice and relaxing during late afternoons, great place to go for Happy Hour. Bike parking right outside. If you drove, good luck finding a spot. Usually very difficult to find parking for your car here. Advice: Call in beforehand an make your order!

I don’t know why some of you folks are crapping on this place. Yeah it’s Korean and all, but it wasn’t bad. 8 pc California Rolls and 6 pc(maybe 8? don’t remember) Davis Rolls for $ 12, split between 2 people and it’s a pretty reasonable lunch for $ 6(not on happy hour, which is past 5pm). Outdoor seating decent on a nice day. Indoors they were playing«Up» which is a great movie(if you disagree, you may as well stop reading all of my reviews, because I’ll go ahead and assume we will never see eye-to-eye on anything). The rice wasn’t soggy, again not sure what some of you are saying or if you came in on a bad day or something. The sushi was also at a reasonable temperature, it’s not top level but the quality is perfectly befitting the price and beats those all-you-can-eat joints I’ve been to with their practically frozen rolls. It was not very crowded at 1:30pm on a Saturday, so I don’t know if the slow service others refer to is a result of a more crowded restaurant at night time. We only had to wait about 10 minutes. Overall not bad, would come back if craving sushi.

Oshio is right off campus, so my friends and I go pretty often after class. Their rolls are $ 5.50 after 5pm, which is a pretty good deal considering the quality of the rolls. One roll is not quite filling, but two is a little much. I usually order the Lion King Roll as ½ of the rolls I order. It’s delicious, but the wait is quite long. Actually, the wait of any of the rolls is a bit long, so if you’re looking to get your food quickly, this is not the place to go! Their staff is quite friendly, but they sometimes mix up your orders, so make sure you double check your receipt before walking away!

Their prices for selected sushi rolls are now $ 5.50 after 5pm and they tax, so the total would actually be $ 6.27.

I really dont like you, Oshios! Neither does my roomie. Stir fried Bulgogi w/Yam Noodles, veggies, miso soup, rice and salad. –um.this is bulgogi? –I couldnt finish it, it was edible. but I couldnt force myself to consume it all. –tasted like chinese food but with yam noodles. –miso soup was crap. all powdered. –my bowl(with miso soup in it) was freaking dirty… it was disgusting and I lost my appetite after. The roomie got the veggie yam noodles with tofu and rice. She couldnt finish her food either. It was too bland for her. I swear they need an inspection of the restaurant soon. I feel so dirty eating there. AHH! I have to admit I am a bit OCD with cleaniness and sanitation. Yes… I do have a phobia of germs. BUTSTILL. there was flies and the bowl.ew. Enjoy? :(

Finally a restaurant that could hang longer than a year at this location! for the past 4 years I’ve lived here I could have sworn there were 3 different restaurants. Setting: right off campus, so very close for those hungry college students. you can eat inside or out! however you have to clean up for yourself. Dish: TanTan Ramen(3) I actually had this dish here for the first time(Ramen Virgin), so I never new how it really should taste like. I thought it was amazing because I have only had ramen from my buddy TOP Ramen and Cup of Noodle! As I began to branch out in the world and finding ramen houses, I realized this wasn’t my favorite here anymore, but I still give it mad props since it was my first. Sometimes this dish is off and on. They make it very flavorful or a little watery. The spice of it is decent, but of course it can ALWAYS be more! Capsai cin ramen(4) Squid + NOodle soup. This had a different type of spicy flavor than the tan tan, but it is still good and decent amount of spicy. The noodles in here is a little different as well. IT wilil blow up with the soup so I suggest eat this dish fast! Bim Bim bop(3) This was the first place I had this dish. This place just knows how to pop my cherry. I thought the meat to rice ratio was good and didn’t give me too much veg. I hate having too much bean sprouts in this dish. Anyways, it is beef, with rice, 1 egg(usually sunny side), and spinach and I donno veg stuff. popcorn chicken(5) This is by far the best pop corn chicken ever! it doesn’t have too much batter like others(quicklys, etc) and the sauce is home made, kind of a sweet and sour thing absolutely love it!

This place is alright. The menu has the usual(ramen, sushi, donburi). They have bulgogi, special bento boxes with soup and salad($ 7.35) and even tempura ice cream. I decided to order the dynamite roll($ 9.30). This had shrimp tempura, tuna, tobiko and some other stuff. It took a while for the order but they did seem understaffed(like 3 people tops). The roll looked wonderful. However, the taste was just ok. I feel like the sushi rice was a bit too soft. I was really surprised that they didn’t give me Japanese chopsticks. The atmosphere is ok. There isn’t a lot of space inside but I guess that just adds to the neighborhood feel. Anyway, they have happy hour mon-sat. During happy hour, sushi is $ 5 after 5:00pm. In short: food is ok. service is ok. price is reasonable. If I ever come back, I’ll probably order the special bento or the bulgogi.
