My sophomore year, I lived at Hillel… well I was on JSU board so I guess that came with the territory. I was very happy to see the remodeling of the house; it really looks great and is more pleasant to go to. I’m still curious to see if the MAJOR remodeling will ever actually happen though. In my time at Davis, I learned that the atmosphere at Hillel changes based on the staff. I was lucky enough to be there when the staff was amazing– Zach, Yonatan… even Ran for the year he was here. I commend Hillel on its Tuesday lunches and Shabbats, but I think outreach/marketing needs more work, but that’s nothing new. I think Hillel can really BE the«center for Jewish life on campus» but needs to work on bringing in the Jew-«ish» students and make them feel more at home.
