The food is average buffet food. Acceptable beef with zucchini, pork w/vegetables egg foo young. The chicken wings are dried out, the sushi is all rice — no fish, shumai is mushy… I won’t be back

Well, this was recommended by a few people so I have it a try. Not a huge fan of the other Mndarin locations. Not sure if there is an affiliation between them or not… Buffet was stocked but I did not think the flavor was that of a good sit down Chinese food restaurant. Definitely not mall food but not the best. May not return unless it is with the people that recommended it. Maybe I needed to order whatever they get. Maybe The buffet is not as good as the menu options…

Straight up good Chinese and Japanese food. Creative drink names, decent prices. Décor isn’t anything special, service isn’t above and beyond but it was good food, fast service and my water was always full! We definitely return

Our family are long time regulars here and have yet to have a bad meal! Everything is always fresh and delicious, with dishes being prepared with little tweeks to suit our likes. Service is always quick and efficient by very courteous and friendly servers. The changes and renovations done in both the lounge and dining areas are great as the interior of the restaurant was a bit ‘worn & tired’ looking. It is now well laid out and decorated very nicely in bright colors and themes. My husband loves being able to catch up on a game and news in the lounge area with 4(or more?) big screen tv’s for viewing, each on different channels, depending on the requests by the customers. Mandarin Danvers always delivers great food and service!

I’m pretty certain that the original owner has sold to someone else because the quality has gone down. When Katie worked the bar(her dad owned the restaurant) they always used tropical juices in the drinks but recently it has been replaced with what seems to be fruit punch. They are still strong and tasty but not as good as they use to be :(

I’ve been here for the buffet, and it’s been just OK. I came for dinner and it was a major rip off. The sushi was good, but it came with no soup or salad like most other Asian restaurants. My wife’s chicken with noodle dish smelled like fish and had a strange taste. The waitress was hovering over us taking plates away before we were finished to rush us out the door. Unless I’m starved to death and in that plaza, I won’t be back here. This is the worst of the Mandarin restaurants I’ve been to.

The dinner for two was to include shrimp and it did not. The tea was not as hot as DD or SB. The remainder of the meal was hot and delightful.

Terrible lunch food. Even though it’s only 11 a plate for the all you can eat buffet, it’s honestly so bad that you don’t go for seconds… I could barely get down the food on my first plate. Gross! Staff is not friendly either. Never again! People who gave this place a good review: you sure you ate at the same place I did?! No way this place is good. Not even one star!

My husband and I love Mandarin~ the sushi is actually amazing! We havent tried the buffet, nor do we care for the lo-mein(super bland and garlicky) However, everything else is delicious and the customer service is wonderful. The chefs and servers work SOOO hard, they are there 7 days a week, all day! Super clean and nice inside as well!! I definitely recommend Mandarin for yummy sushi and very reasonably priced to boot! :)

This is a more upscale Asian restaurant, nicely appointed with elegant but unstuffy décor. The lighting and background music is very soothing. They offer a Chinese and a Japanese menu, and the food was fresh and tasty. We enjoyed hot and sour soup, moo shi pork and fried rice. The buffet during lunch time is phenomenal-I was here with coworkers a few weeks ago. Come check it out if you want sushi or Chinese!

I went in for lunch a few weeks ago. .after I was seated, the waitress came over and said«are you doing the buffet?», and brought no menu. Honestly, I didn’t even know there was a buffet… and also it would have been nice to have said«HI, welcome to Mandarin, would you like a menu, or would you like to try our lunch buffet». Well, since the buffet had a little bit of everything, including sushi, I got it. I liked everything, except when the sushi came out, people were waiting like hawks and would take 10 pieces at a time, leaving a mess of sushi on the tray. Otherwise, the food was good. If you want a sushi buffet, there are other places within a few miles that do all you can eat sushi for lunch, but you get to pick it, its not buffet style. For sushi, thats a much better system.

Picked up takeout consisting of miso soup, shrimp lo mein, sweet potato maki and shrimp tempura maki. The place was dead except for one table but the employees seemed friendly. Ok so the lo mein was really good one of the best I’ve ever had unfortunately the miso soup was so unbelievably salty I had to throw it out, shrimp tempura tasted funny I tried one roll spit it out and the sweet potato maki I could only stomach a few pieces since the tempura had a strange taste. Needless to say I wound up with an upset stomach and no desire to ever try sushi from here again. The 3 stars is only for the lo mein.

Having seen this place and passed by it every time my gf and I go thrift shopping in Danvers, we finally decided to give it a go. We were just looking for a quick and easy buffet for Chinese. Mandarin Danvers proved to be a lot more than we expected in the sense of a Chinese buffet dining experience. Admittedly, buffet is not expected to be all that spectacular, but this place was a notch above. Most buffet places will overwhelm with you choices, spreading across various food styles and such. Not to say that’s necessarily a bad thing, but we found that Mandarin was a more focused approach. Their selection was limited but it included the staples of boneless ribs, chicken fingers and General Tso’s chicken. Each of those, as well as everything else was pretty darn great. It was nice to have less options and have those options be really good. While the buffet seems to be on the weekends and it proved to be quite inexpensive for the amount of food we ate. That was key. All that food for a good price. It will definitely encourage me to come and try the regular menu during the week. Mandarin Danvers is a great little buffet place that offers the favorites and hits(at least for buffet, anyways). It was a fun and delicious experience. We will definitely be returning!

I’ve never actually been for the buffet before, but I have sat down and gotten a meal/drinks. It seems they have just recently re-did the entire inside, and it looks great. The drinks are great chinese-food style drinks. I’ve had numerous Mai Tais from here before, and they have always been good. The food itself is also very good. I get a lot of take out sushi from here… and I highly recommend it. This place is located right next to Market Basket in Danvers off of Endicott St. When craving some decently priced sushi or chinese food, check this place out!

Outstanding! I had eggplant w/garlic sauce and my friend had a mixed seafood and broccoli dish. You can choose brown or white rice, which is a good thing. Service was impeccable and the décor lovely. Very clean. Will definitely be considering this our ‘go to’ Asian restaurant on Cape Ann!

Let me start by saying I have been eating here for over 14 years, so it is with a sad heart that I review this place and not be able to talk about the owner/not sure if he still ownes it Chung. He is such an amazing guy and truly he and his family were the highlight of going there along with the food. They recently remodeled and I am not sure if he still owns, I am told he does, however he is semi retired and doesn’t come in. Honestly had become someone I hold near and dear, treated me like family. The food here was and is hands down the best on the North Shore, I think most Chinese tastes the same(greasy) however Mandarin is always fresh and everything on the menu doesn’t taste the same. They recently remodeled and it looks amazing, very contempary. They did a great job and now are also focusing on sushi; I don’t eat it so I can’t review it. The Chinese is out of this world I recommend Mandarin,

After reading the Unilocal reviews, I decided to head over to Mandarin Danvers for the lunch buffet on a Saturday afternoon. This newly renovated restaurant and lounge has a nice modern atmosphere and a clean dining room. They also have the buffet area in the back, which is in tight quarters. I had the option to sit in the bar area or dining room(I chose to be seated in a booth seat(long shared padded seat with other tables along the wall). I immediately decided on the buffet and handed back the menu. The dining room was fairly busy, which meant the food on the buffet was constantly being replenished with fresh food. The lunch buffet($ 10.50 plus tax) had one hot bar and one cold bar and offered around 30 items including vegetable lo mein, vegetable fried rice, white rice, vegetable egg foo young, gravy, vegetable tempura, egg rolls, crab rangoons, fried dumplings, chicken teriyakis, Gen Gao’s chicken, chicken wings, strange flavored chicken, double cooked pork, Hunan shrimp, shumai, spare ribs, beef with peppers & onions, vegetable delight, sushi, garnishes, sauces, small desserts, fruit, jello, and hard ice cream(green tea and strawberry). I believe soup would be extra. Though the size of the buffet was not as extensive as other Chinese buffets, the food on the buffet for the most part tasted pretty good. The veg fried rice had a good firm texture with peas, carrots, & onions. The Hunan shrimp had nice spicy flavors. The double cooked pork was soft and tender. The strange flavor chicken was sweet and spicy. The steamed shumai had a mix of shrimp & pork. The egg rolls had mainly shredded cabbage with some bits of ground pork. The vegetable tempura(sweet potato, zucchini, carrot) were nice and crisp on the outside, not too greasy. The sushi(big pieces) was okay and very soft. The dessert selection was very limited with a dinner plate of a few cookies, mini choc cakes, & macaroons, individual jellos in small plastic cups(not jello shots, silly!), orange melon, but the hard ice cream(green tea and strawberry flavors) came from Richardson’s, which was great! The service was prompt with the clearing of plates between trips to the buffet and the check was dropped off as I was on dessert. (3.75÷5.00)

Very good New York style food. I have been to the restaurant on MANY occasions and although not always consistent the manager/owner(?) is ALWAYS willing to make it correct. My mother and I typically have the Lemon Chicken and the Chicken w/Broccoli with non spicy brown sauce. Very good. We have had the pork fried rice and it was NOT dry. We have had the Wonton Soup and it was very flavorful. We have had the Hot and Soup Soup. It does have a bit of a kick. We have had the boneless spareribs and they were not too fatty. I think this is a great place and it is a frequent spot when I go to visit my mother. If you are going to judge a restaurant by the décor then I would suggest you look elsewhere. If you only care about the food then this is the local place. I have never done the buffet and I know a bunch of people have criticized it but I can’t speak to it as that is not my thing unless I am in Las Vegas.
