Not a fan. I tried this restaurant for the first time recently. Food lacked flavor. Lobster with ginger was tasteless and disappointing. Interior was nice and service was excellent. However, food was mediocre.

First visit. Good mai tais! The ribs and appetizers were very good starters, as well as all the traditional entrees — fried rice, shrimp with lobster, moo goo gai pan. Service was awesome and this is a nice environment to enjoy dinner in.

Caution: Unceasingly friendly from beginning to end! Ambiance: Not your typical Chinese restaurant. It’s very clean and gives a warm cozy cottage feel. Service: Make sure you don’t sit there just chatting it up until after you put your orders in. They will rotate 5 different staff over the course of 5 mins after your party was just seated and another several within the duration of time you are still deciding on what dishes to order, in the politest way, even though it wasn’t that busy at the time. Food: The Sautéed Chinese Spinach and Clams with Black Bean Sauce was great. The Salt & Peppered Calamari was kind of plain. It’s still pretty good for a Chinese restaurant in the area.

With so many choices for Chinese/Asian/Thai/Japanese food on the North Shore, we chose a place known as a staple for great Catonese/Chinese food for a family dinner. Going a little bit later on a Friday night, we missed the dinner rush and were seated immediately. As always, the dining room was immaculate — it looks formal but is informal at the same time, welcoming to guys in work boots & jeans and two tables of teenagers. The bar was full — a sign of their great drinks at reasonable prices(don’t you hate paying more for a drink than the bottle would cost you? Not a problem here.) The mai tai I got was strong & smooth. We choose the Peking dumplings(AMAZING!), beef teriyaki, chicken fingers(cooked perfectly), and scallion pie for appetizers. Everything came quickly and as they bring it straight from cooking it to the table, everything was hot and not super oily — a problem lots of Asian restaurants have when they let the food sit in the kitchen before getting it out. For entrees, we selected chicken lo mein, chicken fried rice, beef and broccoli, and vegetarian moo shu. The lo mein was okay(Catonese noodles are not what you find in most Asian restaurants) and the beef and broccoli good, but the two dishes that stood out were the chicken fried rice(great!) and the vegetarian moo shu — the dish worth going back for. The vegetables were finely shredded, and the light flavor mixed perfectly with the Hoisin sauce and pancakes(the traditional pancakes, not the tortilla-style most Asian restaurants have switched to) for one of the best moo shu dishes we’ve tasted in a long time. Also a big plus: a pot of hot tea on the table at no charge — a sign of hospitality in my eyes(these days you have to request tea at so many Asian restaurants, and then many only serve it by the cup). The service was impeccable — prompt but not pushy, perfectly timed, and willing to let a family enjoy their meal together and linger over one last cup of tea and the flavorful fortune cookies and pineapple. And while it might seem old-fashioned, the owner, Suzanne Waite, came to our table, asked how our meal had been, and thanked us for coming. That is called hospitality, and yes, such a small gesture — the owner or manager visiting each table — but one that so many restaurants don’t bother with anymore. Thank you to Ms. Waite and her entire staff for a great dining experience that we will definitely look to repeat — nice to go back to a place you feel welcomed at rather than being just another anonymous restaurant check.

Wish I could give no stars. Had a couple of bad experiences. Thought I would try again. Mistake. Bad food, bad service. Overpriced.

Mediocre Chinese food. Great service, the waiter was attentive. The Hot chilli oil is not spicy at all. The chicken wings were small and slightly dry. The calamari were small pieces, and there was no tentacle parts.(That’s my favorite!) The vegetables were good, slightly bland cause my dad had to add a bit of soy sauce to it. The clam with black bean sauce was good. It’s a cute place for a family gather or casual lunch/dinner. Enjoy!

What planet do people come from who think this is good Chinese food? Beef & broccoli was all mush with overcooked beef, sweet & sour chicken uses chicken fingers? And even the crab rangoons tasted like they were cooked 3 days ago and microwaved. On the ok front — the Mai tai and fried rice. Really, this place is a joke.

8 Of us dined at Su-Chang’s recently. It was a Saturday evening, and I had made a reservation. We were seated immediately– always a plus. The décor of the restaurant is bright, with a very clean appearance. We were waited on within, ‘seconds’ of being seated — and I mean that in a sarcastic way : —) Okay, I don’t think I even got my coat off and seated before I was asked if I wanted something to drink… whoa!!! We asked the wait staff to return after giving us a moment to get situated and peruse the drink menu. Then it was time to order. I made it a point to be sure we would have separate checks — when I made the reservation I was clear about this & was told it would be okay. We were asked for our food order and we then explained we wished to have a cocktail and chat before ordering… My goodness, I really didn’t like the look I received… patience, patience! After a short while we ordered our meals. Several of my dining companions ordered seafood, of which I am highly allergic to. I spoke to the server making sure he understood that I need my dish to be served separately and why. Again, that look! It was clear I was marked — that I kept hitting a nerve : —) Our food came –again– within minutes. Every dish was garnished beautifully and looked absolutely delicious. I can’t remember the last time I felt I wanted to eat every last morsel… My meal was vegetarian…(sorry, but I can’t remember it’s name) mixed, stir-fried veggies that I rolled up with sauce in pancake/crepes. Messy, but so flavorful. All my dining companions said they were very pleased with what each had ordered! While eating our server was scarce. probably fearful of another request. Oh, but then he showed up with a plate of pineapple chunks and our bills far before we were finished! We didn’t even have a chance to order another cocktail and we finished all the tea that had been served. I took a vote as to what we should do. All my dining companions felt we should ignore the rush treatment and just order another drink. I guess there’s strength in numbers and so we did. We beckoned our server over, asking for another round. So, at this point I really thought he would faint — his face got quite red. Oh my… When we were having our second, and last drink the owner stopped by asking us how our evening went. We all said it was great. We were more or less finished and didn’t bring up the speedy service and the evil looks we received. We just let it go. I will add that after all the years I’ve dined at Chinese restaurants, I was not aware that when you are finished with your tea, and the kettle is empty… If you would like it refilled, just open the top. Evidently doing so signals the server to refill it.- How simple : —) Will we return? maybe on a night when hopefully we wouldn’t be as rushed! Is there one?

Su Changs is decent chinese food. For even better try China Sky in Winchester. Blows them away. The dinning experience was a tad awkward to start. I was with 4 friends all of us very anxious to catch up and talk. The waiter was very polite and quick with service. A women(whom I believe to be the owner or perhaps works there on the side) stopped by our table 4 times to check in with us. She was bossy and a tad rude. She even ordered us a dish during our appetizers which non of us liked and was too spicy, I mentioned to her I didn’t want this app yet it made it to out table. This appetizer also made it into our bill which I had to dispute when it came time to pay. Perhaps she gets people to «order more» and receives a cut end of the night? Who knows. … I won’t be going back.

The food was incredibly true to its purpose. A fantastic culinary experience that can only be indulged in at the restaurant. The menu is extensively impressive and I still have yet to try everything. However, everything so far has been an absolute delight to the palate. I highly recommend coming to Su-Chang’s as the staff there is also highly serviceable and never fails to come at exactly the right moment. I first was introduced to Su Chang’s through a company function and was taken back by the elegant room they served us in.

The food was okay but not any higher standard of quality as a fast food/buffet Chinese restaurant. I had the boneless ribs, and Beef with pepper and onion. The mixed drinks where delicious and left be feeling satisfied. I probably will come back some time in the future for more food and drink.

I’ve had food here a couple times(I’ve never eaten in) and the service is pretty good. The food is pretty good too! Especially the steak tips and fried chicken. But it’s very greasy food which means stomach aches. :/

This could have been the worst experience we’ve had dining out. It started when the waiter brought out the duck sauce and mustard. Took a spoonful of the duck sauce, and there was a long hair in it. The waiter apologized and brought over another bowl and then said, I can’t see what’s at the bottom, do you want to check it? HUGETURNOFF… should have left then. Ordered General Gau’s chicken, asked if it could be served using white meat only, as we’ve done it this way before in other places… What was brought out, was chicken fingers cut in half. When questioned he had no real answer. The other food we ordered was barely edible… When we finished, we were asked if we wanted to take the leftovers home… a brief… NO…was all we could say. The waiter was totally indifferent to what was going on. TERRIBLEFOOD and Service! How this place gets any kind of recognition is beyond me.

This place is awesome. My kids used to love to go to Kowloon(mostly because of ambiance) but now this is our Chinese of choice. I literally have not seen my girls eat so much anywhere else. Everything we have had is awesome. The service is super nice and crazy fast. White table cloths and well taken care of. Drinks were great(Mai-Tai). I can not recommend this place enough. And the pricing is very reasonable too.

Picked up takeout and we were sorely disappointed. Out of everything we ordered nothing tasted as good and fresh as it normally does. My wife had ordered chicken and broccoli and there was a bone in it. We threw everything out after that.

I’ve been coming to this place for years now. I grew up with Su Chang’s being the place to order when we wanted Chinese food. The food is delicious and not greasy. They’re also very quick. The people that greet you are always smiling and welcoming. I have an hour lunch break at work– I meet my parents and sister. We have water, tea, soup, and we each order a combination plate ordered from the lunch menu which is cheap. The total bill is about $ 30. They also make sure your cup of water is always filled to the top. I highly recommend this place. You won’t be disappointed!

This was some of the best Chinese food that I have had in a long time. The boneless ribs were hot and delicious strips tightly packed in the container. The crab ragoon was crispy with plenty of filling. The egg foo young was perfectly cooked with crispy edges and plenty of sauce on top. The chicken wings were fried fresh. The chicken fried rice was fresh, full of flavor and lots of chicken. The brown rice was cooked just right and not gooey at all. My favorite dish was the Chow Foon noodles with seafood. It was full of squid, scallops and shrimp with vegetables and soft small squares of noodles in a light sauce. My grandmother was especislly fond of this dish too. I ordered chinese broccoli and they made it for me even though it is not on the menu. I had it with garlic sauce and everyone raved about how delicious it came out. My grandfather liked the orange chicken. They were nice to put the sauce on the side so that we could add it as needed. I only wished we had eaten there. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff were accomodating. Celebrating with my grandparents who will be married 76 years this month was priceless. I couldn’t have asked for better food. Thank you to the loal Unilocalers for reviewing this place. I doubt there is a close second in the local area.

One of my favorite restaurants. Clean Great Food Good Prices Great Service First, I would like to mention that It is always extraordinarily clean. They have snow white tablecloths and napkins, I even hear that they have a special laundromat in the basement,(but this is unconfirmed) Cleanliness also extends to all silverware, plates, and even the windows. Now, the food… First, you get a free bottomless pot of hot, house-brewed Oolong tea. Now, what’s slightly unusual about ordering here, is that you do not order for yourself, you order for your table. A plate of pan-seared noodles for instance, is to be shared among the whole table. Soup — which is only 6 bucks can fill 4 large bowls. Speaking of soup, be sure to try the«Sai Su Minced Beef Soup, it is awesome! To reiterate. this is not a restaurant where people order for themselves. So groups of at least 3 are preferred. All food is always ALWAYS prepared fresh, nothing is frozen, nothing is made outside and then reheated. The soup that I was talking about, every time I eat it, it tastes a tad different. And by that I mean it is a little more thick, a little more salty. This indicates it is made by a chef, from scratch. the Crab Rangoons are always brought on a plate straight from the fryer, and are very hot, not to the point of being unbearable, just hot enough for you to know beyond a reasonable doubt they are fresh. All of the food here is very good, it is just a matter of if it is to your tastes. Everyone must find their favorite dishes, and go with them. Some plates can be a tad bland, but there is salt, pepper, sweet/sour sauce, and really spicy chinese mustard provided. Finally, I want to talk about service, which is amazing. First, as far as I know, you are not assigned a waiter, but they all know what you need and or ordered. Therefore, you can flag down anyone, and not have to wait for your specific waiter to stop by. Service is fast, as soon as everyone closes their menu, a waiter comes up to take your order. Appetizers are brought soon afterwards, as soon as you finish one, the next is out before you can say«SuChangs» The number one thing about service, is customer care. For example, as I mentioned, My family and I order the Crab Rangoons. According to the menu, a table is supposed to get 10. There are three of us in my family(myself included), so instead of, per the menu, bringing us ten, and having us fight over the last one, they ALWAYS bring twelve without the price going up. Another thing is that a woman who is the owner, or manager usually walks around at dinnertime and asks people how everything is. As a tea lover, I asked if I could have some of the loose tea they use in their bottomless pots. While they could not do this, she said If I brought a Thermos, they would happily fill it up. I must say, however, that they are very conservative when it comes to décor, but this leads to more focus on the food, and less focus on decorations.
