It’s All About the Cake

It was the last minute (isn’t it always…) and I needed a birthday cake.
YES — I could have gone to Costco. YES I could have gone to Ralphs, but I thought, HEY let me put my husbands Face on a cake, since I really didn’t get him any cool hotsy totsy presents this year, so…
YEAH, I should have said, if a six inch cake is fifty, how much is the next size up??? Turns out it is only ten buck more for an eight inch cake, and it looks much nicer presentation wise… and the picture would have looked cooler and it would have cost 90 bucks instead of 80 (she said WHAT — HOW much for CAKE) she could have bought SHOES and baked a cake… I know that’s what I get for waiting till the last minute…
BUT — it was great when they brought it out at the restaurant and we sang, and we cut into his face, of course…
SO — now you know, if you can spare the dough… get the 8 inch!

Came in for a cupcake and the staff was not friendly at all. She acted as if I was inconveniencing her. It was not a pleasant experience.

This was the baker that was included in our Wedgewood wedding package as part of our all-​inclusive venue. The cake was PHENOMENAL!!! We arrived for our cake tasting and enjoyed just about every combination they gave us. Our designer kept mentioning Cookies & Cream and we kept brushing it off. Finally we agreed to taste it just to appease her but we were pretty sure we weren’t going to choose that one. But OH. MY. GOSH! It was by far the most delicious thing I’ve tasted! And I do not have a sweet tooth!
We opted for buttercream frosting because it was already included in the pricing we were allowed through the venue and because I do not care for the taste of fondant. (Fondant would have been a upgraded fee.) We also decided our bottom layer would be cream cake with layers of lemon curd with Bavarian cream, the middle layer would be marbled with raspberry curd and pastry cream, and the top layer would be chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling. The way they do marble cake here is amazing! It’s a small layer of white cake and then a small layer of the chocolate cake with the fruit and cream fillings in between. AMAZING!
We were having a Grecian Garden theme so the designer worked with us to make the cake look like a Corinthian column with «spatula swipes» up the sides of the top and bottom tiers, and smooth frosting on the middle one. We wanted a olive leaf design to drape across the middle tier and they suggested to save on the cost that we should find a garland on our own and bring it in for them to work with. I also brought them gold ribbon to line the bottom of each of the tiers to add to the effect.
When I brought in the garland, the designer was concerned it would be too heavy, but suggested she could make a branch out of the fondant and pull off the leaves from the garland. On the day of the wedding I arrived to find the whole branch and leaves were made out of fondant so I’m assuming my garland just didn’t work out they way I had hoped.
The cake was beautiful and the flavors were incredible. The cake itself was soft and moist. This was very important to us that the cake not be dry and dense. All of our guests thoroughly enjoyed the cake! What we loved about this bakery is that they told us that on our one year anniversary they would send us a small 6″ cake in one of the three flavors we choose so that we didn’t have to eat freezer burned cake. We cannot wait for that!

I used this bakery for my wedding and I loved it. The cake tasting was so nice they give you a wide selection of flavors to chose from. I enjoyed every flavor, my fav and the one I ended up choosing was was the vanilla with butter cream and whipped cream, they even included a fresh strawberry filling. I had the cake delivered for a little extra but it was worth it because it was hassle free, they set it up beautifully and placed my topper on top. The cake decorations was perfect and just what I asked for. Most importantly the cake tasted just as great as it did at the tasting if not better! I couldn’t be happier with the turn out. Once everyone tasted it they immediately started complimenting it, they even took the left over boxes lol. It’s really great. I can’t wait until that free anniversary cake. Thank you so much!

Great food for lunch/​breakfast. However, we never received our «complimentary anniversary wedding cake» that was promised when we purchased our wedding cake. They are a bit pricey for what you receive as well. Our wedding cake was nice, but overly simple and not very impressive. I also purchased cupcakes for my first baby shower, and I was never told they were going to be mini cupcakes! They were about 2 – 3 bites each, pretty dry, and were the same price if not more expensive than regular sized cupcakes.

Very grateful for the amazing job they did on my wedding cake! It was the perfect combination of my new husband and I. I asked for a beach themed cake for my beach wedding then asked them to add a surprise for my sporty husband. My husband was pleasantly surprised on our wedding day. Thank you very much for helping to make my dream come true!

We had our gluten-​free wedding cake made by the gals at It’s All About the Cake for our April 3^rd reception. I’m allergic to wheat, and most establishments are unable to make cakes gluten-​free OR if they do there is a major sacrifice on flavor. Not only was our cake GORGEOUS, but it tasted amazing! All of our guests had no clue that the cake was gluten-​free, and they all raved about how delicious it was. We did pay a bit of a premium for it to be gluten-​free, but it was worth every penny to ensure that I would be able to enjoy my own wedding cake. I highly recommend this establishment as they are professional, on-​time for setup, and on top of everything. THANK YOU for making us such a wonderful cake!

The cupcakes were way too dry for how expensive they were. 4 stars is giving them the benefit of the doubt, because we went in the evening. However, the staff were very friendly.

They pulled off a fantastic cake for us at the last minute for a gender reveal party. It was super cute and tasted great too.

Great lemon cake for my son’s 6^th birthday!

I was surprise this place was also a diner. My fiancée and I were primarily here for cake tasting. Surprisingly to our surprise, they had accidentally double booked, which to them has never happened before. But rather than rescheduling us, they decided to allow us to have lunch on the house as a way to apologize for the inconvenience. We were delighted they did what they can to accommodate us.
I was surprise in how delicious the food and drinks are. The portions was just the right amount. My vegetarian wrap was full of flavor. My fiancée had what was like a beef brisket sandwich. He was shocked in how juicy it was rather than dry like other places. We were well satisfied. We didn’t order any dessert since the cake tasting is pretty much having dessert.
Now to the fun part. I never knew how fun it would be to run through different combinations. The lady helping us out was sweet and easy to get along with. She was still new at it but seemed like she knew already as to what to do. Between each combination we drank some water to cleanse the palate. We wanted a Neapolitan kind of cake but not too ordinary either. It felt like we were there for hours just for cake tasting and going over as to how we want the cake to look like. They’re even nice even to tell us that we would be able to get a complimentary cake as an anniversary cake for the following year.
We cannot wait to see the final product. We were happy to choose this place to make our wedding cake. Perhaps in the near future we would use this place again.

We used It’s All About the Cake for our wedding cake through Wedgewood San Clemente. It was such a great deal and the cake was beautiful, but more importantly, delicious! They also include a one year anniversary cake, so you don’t have to freeze the top. We would definitely recommend this bakery for your wedding cake!

I can’t tell you if Alexandra or the things she creates are more awesome, but you have to check this place out if you haven’t yet.
Not only are the cakes, cupcakes and cookies gorgeous, but they are delicious too.

THE most delicious wedding cupcakes EVER! I chose 50% of our cupcakes made chocolate with chocolate mousse filling, chocolate icing and gold sprinkles. Then 50% of the cupcakes made vanilla with vanilla cream filling, vanilla icing and blue flowers on top. Then they designed a topper cake to resemble a mountain with bike trails on it (we met mountain biking), and used icing to create two bicycles on the cake!
EVERYONE was wowed with the design and taste of these cupcakes. Melt in your mouth moist!
They provided a cupcake tasting appointment initially, that I took my girlfriends to, to help decide cake and filling choices. That was fun and a great way to make our choices.
Could’t have been happier with the fun and kind and professional services at IAATC!

I was in Dana Point for their tall ships festival as a pirate & found this lovely bakery on a Friday night. They had a gluten-​free, grain & sugar-​free little cupcake made with peanut butter and applesauce. While not completely Paleo, I thought I’d try it. Turns out, it’s made for DOGS.
But the ingredients were natural & I tried it anyway. It was GREAT! This Sea Dog says, «Yarrr, Maties! Why limit it to dogs? Tastes great to humans, too!»

I have eaten here 3 times and can say the menu has very good choices.
For lunch had jalapeño chicken, is a great choice.
The Brussels sprouts side is a must try.

I got the most beautiful naked cake here for my wedding!!! I don’t have much to say besides the tasting appointment was lovely, the presentation was lovely, the cake was ready on time, and we loved it!!!

We ordered our wedding cake from It’s All About the Cake a year ago, and it was amazing. Our tasting experience was wonderful, and our final cake ended up exactly how we wanted it.
This review, however, is for our anniversary cake experience. We called to schedule a pick up for our anniversary top layer, and there must have been some miscommunication, because apparently we came in on the wrong day (or they wrote down the wrong day). They were lovely about it though, and understood that since we had driven from Costa Mesa, we didn’t really want to come all the way back down to Dana Point later that day. They made a cake for us while we waited, and it tasted just as good as the one we remembered from our wedding.
I definitely recommend this bakery for wedding cakes and their exceptional service.

It’s all about the cake
All around great place, wonderful atmosphere and fantastic friendly service.
I originally went to Its all about the cake in search of macaroons because my girlfriend had never tried one. Unfortunately some jerk bought all of them and our trip was for naught :(
While I was there I noticed the amazing plates everyone was having and knew we had to come back for breakfast sometime. We arrived and were friendly greeted by multiple staff and told to take a seat wherever we please, they were somewhat busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals.
With much deliberation of their menu I couldn’t find something that I could settle on it all looked yummy. Then, I saw a waitress bring a gentlemen sitting across from me what they call a B-​dock sandwich with these little potatoes. I had to have it and in my pictures below you’ll see why.
I anxiously awaited my sandwich to arrive and couldn’t be happier when I bit into it, everything was absolutely wonderful.
Everything on their menu was well priced for their location, I was quite surprised to get a bill of just over 30 for the both of us considering I had a mimosa which itself was very well made.
My only suggestion is to replace the one table we sat at, it’s a little oddly worn along the top with some pretty decent size holes in it, when in comparison the other tables were completely fine.

We ordered our wedding cake here and had a great experience. We scheduled a day for our tasting and tried a dozen combinations of about 5 flavors of cake and frosting, with even more choices for filling including buttercream, chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, lemon, and fresh strawberries. They did a custom 2 tiered cake for us and gave us a choice of pickup or delivery to our venue. We chose pickup and saved about $ 65. They also throw in a free 6″ round for your 1 yr anniversary so you don’t need to save a slice of wedding cake in the freezer. The cake was beautiful and absolutely delicious. We loved our experience!
