After we went to costco and was staving, we decided to try this japanese restaurant. We ordered a Unagi Don and Oyako Don, spider roll, rainbow roll and caterpillar roll. First off the unagi don and the caterpillar roll was very sweet to taste. Unagi don is a very easy to make dish and rice is mushy and had way too much sauce. spider roll had half of a soft shell crab instead of whole. rainbow roll is ok, long but very small. Worst to me is the Oyako Don(Chicken, Egg with Rice Bowl) chicken is dry, taste BAD. Don’t think they are particularly CHEAP either. Overall, total disappointment and it’s one of the worst japanese restaurants I have ever went.

What happened to the place that used to be a nice hole in the wall that was generous with their servings and who used to give a free caterpillar roll with the purchase of a dragon roll!!! Ever since this place had been renovated and became nicer looking inside, the quality of the food went DOWN the drain. YOU seriously GET what you PAY for. They do have great specials such as for students who get a special for only $ 4.50. I will no longer fight with the angry drivers who are fighting for a parking space to eat hard, tasteless sushi. Okay, I don’t know if it was the waiter this one day, but they don’t even serve you free tea anymore. Why did I ask for a tea(thinking the whole pot would be served for a group of 4) and instead I received ONECUP of tea. HAHAHA I wanted to laugh because I thought it was a joke. I can no longer praise this place anymore, sorry Tokyo Tempura House this relationship is over after 5 years of dedication. I would now rather choose fish that I can get fried for free at Ranch 99 within this Skyline Plaza.

Come here all the time, its the not best sushi but if you’re broke & in a hurry then its good enough lol. the waitresses are pretty good about taking your order right away. The sushi rice is off sometimes(its warm & mushy YUCK) but their tempura is good. With their $ 6 bento box for lunch, you can’t go wrong.

I been coming here since high school and the customer service hasn’t change. I get their lunch bento box special Saba(Mackerel) with 3 California roll, miso soup, salad & rice for only $ 5.95! Even though some of their servers are snobby I still prefer to eat here because of the good price and quality food! They also renovated the place about a year ago and it looks better than before. Its just a little darker. Oh and they definitely ALWAYS require you to tip them. You can’t leave until you tip them with at least a $ 1. Take outs are also good too. THey will cook it in 10 minutes and its ready for pick up! No need to tip them there. haha!

There’s not many options to eat near my school, so we often end up at Skyline Plaza where Ranch 99 is located. Keep in mind we’re broke college students so we can’t go all out on food everyday. They used to have student specials until 5:30pm and they were alright for the price. My water cup is always filled, which is good too. They’ve recently moved next door where Spicy Element used to be(which was pretty good). They raised the price, but the quality hasn’t gotten any better. Their specials aren’t good and student specials end at 5:00 now, right when my class ends. Boo.

They moved next door where Spicy Element used to be. I actually wouldn’t mind eating inside now because the interior is real nice. Got 3 flat screen’s all around the room. Service was good too. I’m confused as to if the owners of Spicy Element took over because although it says Tokyo House on the outside the waiter’s were wearing Spicy Element shirts, and the chopsticks also had Spicy Element on them. Anyways, you can’t beat the lunch special they have here. That is if they still have it because I’m not 100% sure if they still do since they moved next door. When I came here last night for dinner I got the Chicken Karaage plate. I gotta say they give you a shit load. I was very satisfied and was already full halfway through. The karaage was nicely seasoned and had a good crisp to it, cooked just how I like it. This probably is my go to Japanese spot, but not for sushi. I shall update when I come here again to see if they still have the lunch special.

A cheap place to eat if you’re on a budget. The place is already cheap but if you come here for lunch you can get there lunch bento specials for 5.95 with miso soup, salad, tempura, california roll, rice, and teriyaki. Sometimes you can get a free california roll. On some occassion, the staff can be rude and I have even had one of the waitresses ask for a better tip… Rude much? But I’ll still be nice about it and give the place a 3 star rating. You pay for what you get so you can’t really complain or compare the quality of the food to a restaurant that is consistently rated 5 stars.

Came here yesterday for the first time. Parking is hard to find here, we spent probably close to 10 minutes to find parking and ending up parking in front of the porridge place. Came in and the lady didn’t seem the warmest. She sort of threw our menus in front of us. This place is pretty small, 49 max capacity. The menu wasn’t much, not tons of things to find and the sushi menu was on a separate sheet of paper. No images so I took awhile to find what I wanted since they didn’t really have anything I usually get. We got our miso soups and hot tea. We got our rolls and my tempura. The rolls were tiny, they looked like mediocre cali rolls you find at Safeway, but they were still pretty good. My tempura was yummy and not filled with tons of veggies which I like :) I got sweet and regular potatoes and the shrimp was good. Everything was really cheap which is a huge plus. All sushi rolls come in 6 pieces. Pretty good experience. I wanna try their bento box since the rest of the reviews I’ve read for this place sounds like the bento box is something to go for.

If you’re looking for good inexpensive sushi, this is the place for you. Good food and ok service. The food was pretty good. You get a good size serving in their bento boxes. The only thing that disliked was after we got our food, the waitress didn’t check up not even once. Other than that I’m going to give them 3 stars rather than a four due to the service.

Cheap, dependable bento boxes. I know a lot of reviews look down at the service, but usually there really is only one lady working as hostess and waitress. Most frequent patrons know the menu/“specials” really well and the«amazing» service isn’t really needed or expected. Lunch deals are cheaper than the dinner combination and they have an even cheaper student lunch deal– so you see a lot of middle/high school kids here around 2:50. My suggestion: if you’ve never been here before or have had a bad experience– go here once(more) with low expectations, familiarize yourself with the menu and then(if you like the food) come here often for cheap eats when you’re in the area or looking to get something to-go. If you’re a snob, just completely avoid this place.

I just had to update this and rate them on their service. service = SUCKS I gave them a call just now, hoping to order for pick up. All I got was A LOT of attitude. Lady: Tokyo Tempura Me: Hi! I was just wondering if you guys had specials today. Lady: Uhhh. Yeah. Me: Okay. May I please hear them? Lady: Ugh. Fine. Chicken teriyaki bento. Me: Thank you. How much is it? Lady: Uhhh. 7 dollars. Me: Sounds good. Can I order for pick up. Lady: Fine. Me: Okay, thank y… *CLICK She was so unresponsive and unfriendly. The only reason someone would go here is because they want to save money. But seriously, they’re not even worth that. I’m not even going to pick up my order. TAKETHAT, TOKYOTEMPURAHOUSE!

BROKE?! LOVEJAPANESEFOOD?! SUSHI Hard on your wallet?!? Look no furthur!!! Cheap amazing lunch deals! =D $ 5.95 lunch deal bento boxes with your choice of salmon, chicken, beef, etc and sushi with it and rice salad soup AND tempura(my weakness that I try not to eat!) and it’s soooo good! And they have great sushi deals like when you buy the Dragon roll you get the Catapillar roll with it free, which means two huge rolls for $ 12.95! $ 6.50 each for those fish filled amazing rolls is a mega deal! Staff is friendly, fast service, go for lunch! If youre a student your lunch menu is a dollar cheaper! And they have daily specials as well! And good udon soups too!

Yes, it’s inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. Not to mention the service is horrible. The ‘chef’ behind the counter was yelling across the entire restaurant in Chinese, having a conversation with the ‘waitress’ that was wiping down tables. Watered down hot tea… No thanks.

i don’t understand why this place gets so many bad reviews! i came here with my sister and my boyfriend because her and i were in the mood for cheap sushi, emphasis on cheap. We were seated quickly and there were only a few other customers. We received ice water and warm miso soup. The walls are decorated with pictures of the sushi rolls as well as deals and prices. My sister noticed the«buy one spider roll get a free caterpillar roll» sign and added it to our list of items. My boyfriend ordered chicken teriyaki bento and for the price it was a decent amount of food. I’ve never seen zucchini tempura so that was a plus for me. Our sushi did take awhile but there were two ladies at the sushi bar so it was understandable. However the advocado was cold and fresh, and so was the unagi. the soft shell crab was sooo yummy too. i love this place and hopefully will be back!

This place is pretty decent for an Japanese resturant. The price is very inexpensive, but they lack a friendly service. Food:(came out pretty quicky each time i went) Tonkatsu — Good and would recommend this to those who like Pork. Tempura — Way too much breading and I didn’t like it at all Soup+Rice — Average, not different from other resturants. Sushi — Average, decent ratio of rice: meat Service: The service is pretty bad. The waitress is more interested in watching something in the back room than service you most of the time. Even times when she’s not watching anything, she was still pretty rude and seems to rush you in ordering. Overall: It was a ok experience. If you want some japanese food but feel like paying so much this is the place to go.

The prices here are super reasonable. I had to do a double take when I saw six pieces of nigiri sushi for $ 2.99 and lunch specials that include salad, miso soup, rice, and two menu items for $ 5.95! The quality of the presentation and variety of menu are A-OK for a Chinese run Japanese restaurant that’s located in the Ranch 99 plaza! That said, don’t expect stellar results for the food as some of the dishes ranged from decently good to well, whatdahellsinmymouth: Miso soup: 3 stars– Made with white miso and wakame seaweed was mildly flavorful but still tasty. Hamachi Kama: Excellent! 4 Stars– Perfectly cooked inside and out. I’d give it 5 stars but it was not served with grated daikon, ponzu, or green onions. Sushi: 2 stars– The rice was good quality and was rolled very well but it was really mushy in texture. Both the California, Inari, Shiitake rolls looked great, but dissolved into a lukewarm glob upon contact with the taste buds. As for the fish, sigh, we tried the tekka maki and salmon skin rolls. They smelled and tasted really fishy and I was fearful of the aftermath. Tonkatsu: 1 star-It was dried out, chewy, and loaded with MSG. Salmon Teriyaki: 5 stars-Flawless in preparation and flavor while being moist on the inside and delicately seared on the outside. Yum!!! Tempura: 3 stars– Some of the tempura items were great such as the shrimp and squash however most of the vegetables were cut irregularly(ranging from big to tiny) and some of the carrots were still raw on the inside. Service: 4 stars– The food came out super fast and the server was attentive and efficient. Would I come here again? Probably, especially to try some of the other menu items, I would just be careful about what I order.

When living in Pacifica this was one of my favorite places to go to for sushi — next to Nippon Sushi of course. Since I’ve moved for college I’ve tasted much better sushi, so the rating I would’ve given them then is much higher then now. The place is very small and quaint inside. The staff is very nice and welcoming. I’ve never had to wait for a table, and the place is always very clean. Their menu has a variety of different foods, but I personally did like their sushi. Something that they do is put their miso dressing sauce on their California rolls, which I loved. At other Japanese restaurants I would ask for a side of miso dressing sauce to dip my rolls in, but this is the only place that I found that did that for me. Also, when you order a good amount of food from them, they give you some extra rolls for FREE. I haven’t gone back for a while now and I’m due for another visit. I’ll update this when I go back if there is anything else new. =)

I’ve been coming here since high school, so I’ve been a loyal diner there for a while now and I really have no complaints. I usually come here for lunch cause hello, it’s super cheap! I usually order the 2 item bento box, beef teriyaki and tempura which comes with miso soup, rice, and 3 california rolls. Pretty good deal for a meal thats less that $ 6. I usually request to have only shrimp and brocolli only for my tempura and they always make it happen, which I really like. Their salad dressing is really good too! I can’t really comment on the sushi, cause I hate sushi and I never eat it. But from what I hear it’s decent. the service is ehh, really depends on who you have, I really can’t distinguish between the looks but there’s one lady that’s really nice and another who just leaves you there forever and nevers checks up on you. Other than that I don’t have any complaints. I love coming here for japanese food!
