This place is no longer called Texas Star it’s «Blizine» or something like that, so beware. It’s literally a neighborhood bar. Small dive bar with 2 pool tables at $ 1 a round. Drinks were fair. The bartender was nice. A lady brought in her dog, so how cool. They have a patio out back & I believe karoke nights. I read Ladies Night on Tuesday so yay. I wouldn’t go back but this place had potential. I probably went on a wrong day.

The new owner reached out to me and asked to give another try. I have been back twice and would agree that NOW, it is a nice place. Yes is it a dive bar but come on, why go to some high end place and pay three time the price for the same beer? Both nights had a cover band and both were damn good bands. Nothing fancy there but not a bad place to sit and have a drink which is all I am looking for. So in sort improvements have been made and I like the place now. As for the other comments of me getting off my high horse. Get to know me first before you judge.

I worked at The Star at 18, I drank at the Star at 21, and now at 28, I visit two or three times a year. I got this job through a bartender my dad was sweet on, and I stayed a while. I made good friends, made bad mistakes, and I learned from it(I was 18 surrounded by well seasoned adults). I was always treated well by the owner, Jay. It’s a dive for damn sure, but I spent my twenties there with my dad, and now that he’s gone(it was the last place he ever visited), I like to head back to town every now and again and have a beer and stare down at his place at the bar. There are plenty of bikers in this bar, guys you don’t mess around with, but they are no different than the average patron in a honky tonk– Don’t jerk them around, and they are just as pleasant as everyone else. It was mentioned by other reviewers that they were waiting for a fight to break out between the different gangs patronizing the bar together, but that’s ignorant. Yes, they were patronizing the bar together, — that’s the point. You can show your colors inside if you know how to act like a human being. It is not unusual to see a table of Scorpions carrying on with a couple Gypsies on any given night, and as a matter of fact, Gary, a Scorpion you don’t f*ck with has escorted me to my vehicle many a night getting off work at 3am, making sure I wasn’t harmed. Definitely a honky tonk, but not racist in the least, in fact Charlie Pride’s daughter wanders in on occasion to sing karaōke. Good, hard-working folk for the most part at the Texas Star, like any place we’ve had our share of «winners». Staff come & go as with most places, and Jay doesn’t let anyone work there that he is absolutely sure is a drug user or distributor. He tries to keep it clean, but you have to remember the area. Karaōke is pretty fair there, and the rotation isn’t so bad. Caroline the bartender is a great girl, and she’ll keep you from running dry. Lots of regulars, many of whom were long time regulars when I started working there August of 2004. Plenty of them still come in, and it’s always great to be recognized. Get off your ivory tower and hang with some friends in low places.

I ventured over to this little bar last night and found that the previous review was wrong. We went for the karaōke, and stayed for the entire night! Karaōke: 8:30−9ish to 1:30ish Fri & Sun(adding Sat soon) with Phantom Cobra Karaōke(find ‘em on facebook!) and sometimes they are there Saturdays, and are also at The Goat a few nights a week! Trish is fabulous and the rotation/selection of songs are fabulous. Bar: after 8:30, it’s a buck to get in. Cokes are a buck, and the rest of the drinks are good and inexpensive. They have specials on something every night! They are on fb, too, just look for Texas Star & Friends for the full rundown on specials, etc… The staff is super friendly! IF you are like me and drink a variety of mixed drinks, KNOWWHATISINTHEM. The bar tender we had needed some help but was willing to try anything. If you are not able to explain your concoction, stick to the basics… something and coke, something and OJ, beer. Apparently the smoking ban in Dallas is playing part in the non-smoking signs, but people are still lighting up a bit, but not much. People: There are a wide variety of people who are regulars. A few former professional musicians who just sing some while they nurse a beer, some bikers who are friendly enough, and don’t even seem to notice the different MC jackets around them(not ‘scary as the previous review mentions). There are a ton of regular folks, too, some who sing, some who shoot pool, some who need a reality check that the pole in the corner of the dance floor is not for them! We will be back, I could see me here a few nights a week!
