Give me your dark, slightly damp, cement floor bar with tons of taps full of the best selection of brews (okay, granted I can’t drink any but a few sips of my BF’s) and a full bar and I’m back in Bushwick. And I’m loving it. The outdoor seating is nice too but we prefer to hide from the daylight and be closer to the action (aka the taps). We can also enjoy sitting inside since you guys play music at a respectable level that still allows for conversations in our normal voices.
I perused through some of the other reviews and I don’t agree with a lot of the rants. Came here two weeks ago (been a few times prior as well!) with some not-​so-​well versed beer drinkers and had great service and they got us quite a few samples before they made decisions. I partake in the titos n sodas and they are strong and tasty as usual. We’ve had some of the homemade food and it was enjoyable. Thanks for keeping out the riffraff guys and we will be back soon ;)

I really like strangeways. I’ve been a few times and have enjoyed every minute seated at that dingy brick and mortar. Maybe it’s the Brooklyn vibe it secretes with its lack of sunlight through nonexistent windows. Maybe it’s my Brooklyn nostalgia. Maybe it’s both, but I know for sure its because of the beer. They have 40 taps of choice beer that is ever rotating. The only bummer is they lack gluten free beer and I want to say cider but don’t quote me on that last one. Overall tho it is a fine watering hole.

My previous review of Strangeways was mostly a compilation of quotes from the owner in response to separate Unilocal reviews, each with personal insults directed towards the consumer, such as making fun of their weight, their ethnicity, and intellect. Unilocal management received an anonymous request for the review to be removed, as it did not focus on my own personal experience. I then received a personal message from the owner. This message will now be the focus of my review, as to comply with Unilocal regulations.
The owner took the time to read my profile and utilized the info to send me a private message with disparaging, stereotyped comments about a female from the south. The owner mocked my presumed southern accent and small town intellect.
The owner asked that my previous review be removed because it was effective in exposing his methods of bullying and intimidation, a pattern that he continued when he sent me a page long message of hateful stereotypes. This is why Unilocal exists, so that the community can vote with their wallets to financially support moral local business owners, and expose those who use internet bullying and trolling to dissuade negative reviews.

WORST SERVICE EVER! Bartender thinks he is a gift to the customer. Third time here and each time the service gets worse. We wont be back.

Vince and the boys are always there to take care of us. This is one of my favorite watering holes as I live with one walking distance. Great beer selection and the food is on point.

Definitely a kick-​ass, unique beer selection. Wouldn’t say it’s «the best» as others have when there was not a single lager or pilsner on tap. (A delivery issue was the explanation, but in general the selection is heavy on IPAs and stouts.) Bartender was helpful nonetheless and I ended up trying a solid hefeweizen (not served in a hefe glass tho :/​) then switched to an excellent Danish milk stout. Unassuming hole-​in-​the-​wall, dig the front patio.

Stopped in this Wednesday night for a quick beer. Definitely ditch the new chick, didn’t catch her name but short with curly hair. Rude, not attentive and def not cool.

Being the Morrissey/​Smiths fan that we are — we couldn’t wait to be in the Dallas area to check out Strangeways! Good drinks and Jose was super cool! Definitely would come back when back in Dallas.

Strangeways has the best beer selection of any bar I’ve ever been to. They get the smallest batch kegs in town, and have a great bottle selection too.
The food is also great. Service isn’t as attentive as it could be, but that just adds to the charm of feeling like you’re among friends.

I keep recommending Strangeways to people in person, so I figured I should go ahead and write a review.
Strangeways, unassuming as it is, is known for its beer selection. The taps change fairly often, and there are always at least 20 beers I haven’t heard of available for purchase. The variety is exciting.
The atmosphere is very low-​key: dim, casual, walls full of trinkets — somebody there has a serious affection for action figures and The Smiths. I’m not going to try to go any deeper into these things, because I don’t know enough to have a conversation.
I like to go here to find new beers to try, but they also have good food. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and a funky mix of music is always playing. I would appreciate a lower price tag, but I go back for the novelty of things. Check it out at least once.

The petulant, ad hominem attacks from Eric Sanchez, Strangeways owner, are even more laughable when he’s also insulting the other person’s intelligence. But I guess I should expect an ironically illogical response from a bar owner that sells ‘craft’ stale beer.
When I asked Eric for a beer recommendation, he said «he hadn’t tried any of them,» which not only explains why he wouldn’t see a problem with serving flat foamy runoff, but also explains why he can only dismiss my complaint with insults. He had the same response to other people complaining about stale beer, which leads me to believe he doesn’t ever try any of the beers and just doesn’t have a clue.

They have 40 beers on tap… but nothing local. And no samples (for most of their beers). They have a terrible menu. F*ck this place.

If I were to write this review based solely on the food, Strangeways would have received 5 stars. However, I’m writing about our experience as a whole, and in good faith, I cannot do that.
After a foodie friend recommended the place, we decided to check it out as a post work treat. The service was HORRIBLE. Mediocre at best, but after watching a couple of regulars receive a warm welcome and attentive service it was clear where we stood. We had to beg for attention on a slow, rainy night and after hunting down the obviously drunk bar tender (I saw you take the shots, can’t make it up) on a slow, rainy night, we received some kind of cheap sour blend of red wine in place of the Cabernets that were ordered. And this was after being told by the other unwelcoming bar tender that they lacked the ingredients necessary to make an Old Fashioned… Seriously?! a supposed 40 beers available, but you’re mysteriously lacking in bourbon, bitters & sugar? Hmm…
The food on the other hand was DELISH! From the cheese board to the Torta… Perfection. Complimenting flavors and variety from the cheese plate make it an ideal app or meal for two. Great presentation and ideal portions from each of the three entrees that were ordered. BOMB ASS ELOTES!, btw
Also, if your toilet constantly stalls/​sprays patrons with water to the point that women warn each other about it in the restroom, it’s time to call a plumber.

You’ve probably driven by and never noticed it. It’s just an unassuming brick building in an unassuming part of Old East Dallas with a dimly lit spray painted sign. But step inside and find a craft beer stronghold.
Rivaled only by Craft & Growler, Strangeways boasts the most eclectic, diverse, and adventurous beer selection in the city. There’s always something casked, always something new to sample, and always a good mix of people on hand. One of the few places I can regularly expect to find Jester King and Prairie Artisan Ales being poured. Haven’t gone too deep into the menu but what I tried was very tasty.
The vibe is just right for me. The music sets a cool tone and the raw interior is lit just well enough to still feel inviting. The collection of designer vinyl toys are a whimsical touch to an otherwise rugged space. One of the bartenders can be gruff and these specialty beers aren’t cheap, which is why I usually go on Monday to avoid both ($ 5 drafts and he’s not working).

So we gave this bar another try since it gets a lot of hype. And sadly to say I tried to like it I can’t get past the horrible service and drunk bartenders. I ordered the celebracion from four corners (with an employee from the actual brewery mind you) cause I know it’s out of season and I won’t get to have it again. It was either flat or old or something, no head no gas even my friend said it was bad. I told the bartender it’s not good he literally walked away and helped someone else and said «there’s nothing wrong with it» and shook his head. wtf. I was so pissed. The other bartender was drunk off his ass too. Oh and they still serve all beer in a 8oz cup unless you’re a regular or know them which is unfair cause I know the 7% should be in a pint not a 8oz. I felt ripped off again. Horrible bar lots of potential just crapy management.

This is the perfect place to frequent. Great patio, lovely staff, wide selection of good beer, and the food is amazing. Order the BLT if you like goat cheese; you’ll never be the same. They always play good music here too– the Knife, Discovery, The Cure… I love it.
Also, the regulars are really cool too. These two cute brunettes that sit at the bar are hilarious and so nice. Somebody should be buying these girls a drink!

I came for great craft beer, I saw great craft beer, I was conquered by great craft beer.
No, the staff are not that friendly. No, you are never quite sure they heard your ordered and/​or will do anything to fulfill it until it gets plopped in front of you. But the craft beers are awesome, the atmosphere is awesome, the patio is awesome and if the hipster vibe could be toned down from 11 to only 9 or 10, it would be amazing.
The food delivered to the people on both sides of us at the bar looked fantastic, especially the elotes. Next trip there I will order food and see whether it gets delivered to me or not. I’m guessing so, albeit without a smile, and it will be delicious.

Strangeways is an awesome place to hang out with friends.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the music is fantastic, very low key but very cool. Nothing like those annoying bars where the music is so loud that you can’t have a conversation.
They have about 40 beers on Tap and a delicious menu.
I am very happy about the fact that their beers are not what you usually find in every bar in town, there are much better.
I ordered the grilled cheese with fries and the elote. All these things are great!
Next time I will order the Goat cheese croquettes and the Fried Hominy, my friend is a big fan of both.
The only reason why they don’t get the 5 stars is because the bartender was kind of rude.
