Read the reviews and decided to try it. Authentic, yes but not the best. Tried the Menudo, had to return it. I maybe I’ll try the Barbacoa Tacos… Way too greasy. Dripping grease from all sides and all over the plate kind of greasy. Could not eat them. Would I recommend? No. Would I return? No. Prices are high also for the type of place. Service is mediocre at best and location very ran down. Draw your own conclusion.

The corn and flour tortillas are so good! The corn tortillas are soft and fluffy. I had the caldo de res and my husband had the barbacoa. The caldo reminded me of my grandmothers’s soup. My husband didn’t leave much on his plate. Yummy! This place made me miss home. It’s authentic.

Bad service, had to ask for tea and refill of chips. Don’t order the queso because it’s Rico’s, the same kind of crap you get at the movies.

Cheap, authentic, and carne guisada just like abuela made!!! Have a few crafts ales at Strangeways then walk across the street to chow down on some of the best no frills neighborhood Mexican food around. It’s the hidden gems that give the most pleasure.

Another staple in my family. Authentic Mexican food. The tortillas are the best in Dallas. We’ve gone for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have never been disappointed. Get the tortillas!

So we ended up here to get a good grub before hitting the night scene. The food was excellent and the margarita options were nonexistent. I enjoyed the meal and drink never the less. I would recommend this location to anyone who enjoys authentic food.

This is a legit family Mexican joint, that reminds me a lot of the Cuquita’s that used to be at Henderson and Capitol(oh, how I miss you, Cuquita’s!). Everything about this place is lovely: 1. In house, handmade tortillas, made to order. I got the corn, and they were pillowy and divine. 2. Special of the day: I got two big bone in pork chops with soup, salad, beans, and guac sauce, and every bite was outstanding. 3. Big Mexican beer selection and ‘ritas, with several top shelf tequilas? OMG, yes! 4. Friendly helpful service, not fast by gringo standards, but culturally appropriate promptness for south of the border norms. Margarita’s, I shall return soon, and often.

This is a very standard hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. Home style authentic mexican restaurant with boxed chips, not freshly made, and habanero salsa is good. I got the guisado de puerco or pork stew ribs. Rice and beans were spot on and the ribs were good and flavorful. I got the corn tortillas and they are awesome! Horchata could use more cinnamon. The flan was good. Not too sweet and great texture and consistency. Parking can be a pain to get out of so be careful. Great value frontage food. Going to try their breakfast next time!

This is a small location, family owned. The food is good. Atmosphere is casual. Price is great for the quality and quantity of food. The menudo and caldo is awesome. Every time I visit they are normally out. They make the soups fresh each day and by early afternoon they are out. That is the only drawback but that is a good thing. It is so good and high demand that they run out. I dont fault them for that. Guiso is awesome. The mean is tender and the guiso itself is flavored just right. There are variety in the menu and they are looking into changing the menu to what degree I am not aware of but change can be good. This place is truly a wonderful place itself and the food is great. I have not given a 5 star because of two factors. First they are still developing as far as growth and I have yet to try the rest of their dishes. I almost forgot. The tortilla, beans and rice are truly the way how latinos make their food. I definitely would not add the term«tex mex» to this restaurant but pure authentic.

Rumour spreadin’ a-’round in that Texas town ’bout that shack called Margarita’s and you know what I’m talkin’ about. Just let me know if you wanna go to that home looking’ taquarita. They gotta lotta nice foods. A haw haw haw haw! The amount of flavor emanating from that little house with the red letters above its doorstop would make Billy Gibbons and the boys forget all about that chicken shack to the east. The pork stew I had was amazing and the rice and beans were actively flavorful parts of the dish. The pork was tender and delicious. After just one taste there was no doubt who would be a member of the Clean Plate Club. This guy! Gal Pal only reluctantly participated in this initial Margarita’s meal, but it only took her one taste of her seafood/fish soup to be as ravenously engaged in her meal as I was in mine. The huge chunks of fish and shrimps were appreciated and devoured. We are now Margarita convertees we could eat it most ev’ry night, and I’m not mistaken. hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, then this would be the place. This is not a Tex-Mex restraunt. I tried their Bistec a la Mexicana and it was delicious. It was home made. They also have the corn and flour tortillas also hand made. Great place!!!

Skeptical at first, but with Unilocal ratings high and me being hungry for some good Mexican food, I thought what the heck. As soon as I walked in, it reminded me of some of my favorite Mexico City restaurants. Basic on the façade but welcoming and friendly. Now — the important stuff… I always want to know what the specialty of the house is and what the people who work there like to eat — so it was the Guisado Puerco for me –and the Bistec for my dining mate! He wanted to have a barbacoa taco as well so we ordered one. First off — the Corn tortillas are to die for! I love them! I am a traditional chilango guero and really like my corn tortillas. I also tried the flour and they were equally as good. Now for the food reviews! AWESOME!!! Sums it up in one word. The food was flavorful, hot and good old home cooked. Service was fast and friendly. I was pretty darn impressed with the food and folks at Margarita’s.

On my quest to find the most delicious menudo in Dallas, I stumbled upon this little restaurant that prides itself on making everything«homemade» style. My experience at Margarita’s Restaurant was okay, and although I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for, I did find some of the best barbacoa tacos in Dallas(and surrounding areas). Chips and Salsa: The chips came with two different salsas; the orange-colored one was pretty good and spicy, while the red one had a strong tomato flavor and no spice to it. I was not super crazy about the chips and salsa, but that’s no big deal. I’m in for the real food. Menudo: Honestly, I’ve had better. The $ 7 soup was good, but it definitely needed an extra kick — more salt, more spices, more something. The hominy, however, was homemade as opposed to canned hominy, which was great. AND it came with handmade flour tortillas! Again, this meal was good but not great. Keep in mind that I have extremely high expectations for my menudo.(LOL) Barbacoa Tacos: YUUUUMMMAY! They have a plate that comes with three tacos(your choice of fajita, chicken, or barbacoa), rice, and beans for $ 8! Since I also had menudo, I ordered single tacos(no need for rice and beans). I cannot speak for the fajita or chicken, but the barbacoa was delicious and authentic!!! More importantly, the tacos had a lot of meat in them. And most importantly… yes, the handmade corn tortillas! It was $ 3.50 for two tacos. Margarita’s Restaurant is a small place with about 15 tables, takes credit cards, offers adult beverages, and makes some amazing barbacoa tacos.

My favorite favorite favorite mexican restaurant. MEXICAN. NOTTEX-MEX! I love that my boyfriend and I started going to this little hole in the wall. Authentic mexican food, just like my mom used to make for us growing up. The chile relleno so far has been favorite, but I try to order something different every time I come. Ask for the chile relleno with both picadillo AND queso. YUMMMMM! The guiso de res is pretty damn delicious, too. Can’t wait to come back again!

The barbacoa is really good. I like this place because it’s a dirty hole in the wall. Not dirty as in unhygienic, but it’s an old building with just food to offer up. It’s not some fancy place that tries to impress you with its décor. The atmosphere is more intimate that way. The queso fresco is great with whatever you order. The chips and salsa are delicious. The habanero salsa isn’t too spicy, but builds with each bite. I wouldn’t come here for chicken. I’ve tried the beef fajitas, the barbacoa, cheese enchiladas, the ham skewers that also have bacon(which was something I’ve never had before, but enjoyed.) The food isn’t fancy. It’s sometimes greasy. Most importantly it’s good. This place isn’t great, but it’s one of my favorites when I go out for Mexican food. You come in to this old house in East Dallas with mariachi music playing and a novela on the television. There’s a jukebox to pick a song from.

I had to write this review, because the review by Douglass(albeit witty) was simply extremely biased. First of all, this is a divey little restaurant next to a Mexican supermarket in Old East Dallas — not Uptown or Addison. It’s going to be a little rough around the edges. It’s not a place for date night or for watching the game with your bros. The staff and the menus are ESL, but the place and people are very inviting and helpful.(Besides if you live in Texas and don’t know what words like frijoles, tortillas, carne, pollo, or queso mean, you need some help.) It’s quick… it’s cheap… it’s authentic(that’s why there’s not goopy cheese smothered all over everything)… and it is good. I would give it another star if the ambiance was much improved. If you are adventurous, and like trying interesting, tasty, hole-in-the-wall places like Tacos La Banqueta(formerly El Guero) — give it a shot. Try the gorditas! If you like unflavored fajitas, salsa like catsup, Mexican chachkies on the wall, and fear corn tortillas — stick with Uncle Julios and Taco Bell. If you want to class it up and propose to your girlfriend; I see Olive Garden or Twin Peaks in your future.

This is a solid East Dallas breakfast place for those mornings when you just need some beans in your breakfast. I usually get the nopalitos plate served«mexican style» with onions and tomatoes mixed in, beans, eggs and flour tortillas. I’ve tried most of their breakfasts at some time or other, though and all were excellent. Note: The breakfasts are normallly served as scrambled eggs with the meat or nopalitos mixed in. If you want fried with your meat on the side, just tell them. One great thing about this place is that they not only have Victoria beer but make micheladas with your choice of beer(Victoria!) that are super-tasty. I’ve been going here for years, as I say, only for breakfast. However, as far as I can tell, you can get breakfast any time. BEFOREYOUGO, KNOWTHIS: There is little to no English spoken by the staff nor the patrons. This is a Mexican resto in a largely Mexican neighborhood. No matter your background, they will be so happy to see you and the food makes up for any communication challenges while ordering. If you must… point. Smile. Eat. Smile some more.
