We were looking for a new brunch place and decided to try Horne & Dekker. What a great decision as the food, service and atmosphere were top notch. For food, we actually split one of the signature dishes, Double Dekker, with a side of bacon. It was too much food for us both because we didn’t realize that they were going to brought us biscuits beforehand. They could offer the biscuits with the honey butter and strawberry jam a a meal… it was really good! The wife took advantage of the limitless mimosas, which is a great deal for $ 12. You can even switch between about 6 different drinks offered in the limitless deal so you never get tired of drinking OJ or tomato juice the whole time. The server, JP, was great. He was very responsive and made sure our first visit was a pleasure. The atmosphere was laid-back which is what we like… the music was not too loud and varied in style. Definitely going back soon to try some other dishes for bunch, lunch and dinner. Bonus, they have a dog friendly outdoor patio which is nice to know on those days you want to bring the pup out with you.

I ordered the fried chicken. This was not great. The light crust was fine but the chicken did not have any flavor. It did not taste like much. At the table the spare ribs with Gouda grits was ordered. The grits were really good, spare rib was alright could have been more tender. Now the French toast was really nice. It was huge not to sweet and the strawberries were fresh. The service was good and they werefunny. Giving this place a 3 because overall it was just ok.

LOVED this place. my friend and i went on a sunday which was coincidentally their supper club special. you get to try one of 3 entrees and then you get to share 3 various sides. until i read someone else’s review didn’t realize they were upscale southern but doesn’t matter. the spinach was GREAT, spicy fyi. potatoes were awesome too. biscuits were JUST like KFCs. not a bad thing but i know my biscuits im from the southeast. the fried chicken had such great batter and the staff provided great service. very friendly atmosphere. sometimes i thought they were too comfortable around us lol. i plan to go back and try other items. i ate WAY too much. the place has a soul whereas most places just exist. Saturday’s brunch is brought to you by the letter B. I had brown sugar bacon, buttermilk pancakes and bottomless mimosas. The brown sugar bacon was so delicious. I wasn’t crazy about the pancakes, but I think that was just my taste preference. We kept our waiter busy with the bottomless mimosas, so much that he finally brought out a carafe. He was super sweet! We were going to sit outside, but the sun was beating down just a little too hard so I was afraid of getting sunburned. We sat inside at the big garage door window so it was like being outside without being outside. When we saw a baby’s diaper being changed at a table outside we were grateful for our decision to be inside with out the window open. WTF parents? You know you had a good time, and like a place if you stay for over two hours. I’ll definitely be back.

I want to specify that this review is purely for the bar and the bartender — Patrick. I have only eaten appetizers here, but have had many drinks. :) Patrick is truly a Mixologist. I thought that was made-up, trendy term, until he unleashed his magic. He makes delightful, inventive drinks that are beyond amazing. He is the only bartender I’ve ever told«Just make me whatever you want, I know it will be good» and it was — each and every time. He comes up with a seasonal drink menu and will also make drinks varied to your tastes if you ask. Also a great, personable guy that just makes you feel happy to be at this bar. Truly a unique experience and one that I take as my responsibility to make sure more people know about!

Honestly, I went in expecting it to suck. Luckily, it didn’t. Started with warm biscuits. As a biscuit fanatic, I can say, these were truly fantastic. Next was some fried Thai chili shrimp, too much sauce but the shrimp were hot and crispy. Not bad. Fried chicken was a bit under-seasoned, but tasty enough. The pork carnitas were a bit dull and could have used more toppings, but again not awful. Dessert included the Red Velvet Twinkies, which were excellent. Moist and fresh, served with a glass of cold milk. PB& J cups were forgettable. I’d go back, but probably not on my own dime.

O-M-G. When can I go back? I went to brunch after rave reviews from coworkers and was not disappointed. I ordered the crab Benedict and my friend ordered the veggie scramble. Both came with home fries and a biscuit. HOLYLORD… that biscuit mellllllts in your mouth. The crab bene was divine and I tried the scramble… amazing as well. The ambiance is fun and welcoming, and so is the staff. I cannot wait to go back for dinner and try all of the amazing menu items– especially the coconut cream pie. I hear it’s awesome. 2 thumbs up, 5 stars all the way, Cheers!

This is really a medium 3 stars but I’m kicking it up because they were so nice to my mom and attentive to her salt restrictions. We had the«Sunday Dinner» which is a great value – $ 16 for all you can eat of 3 entrees and 3 sides plus biscuits. And instead of sending you to a feeding trough they ask what you want and, if you finish it, they bring some more… very civilized. Some folks were even carrying out doggy bags, a first for an AYCE in my experience. Fried chicken was perfectly cooked, in a light batter vs the heavier coatings you find in some places. It was served with some light gravy that is the one condiment I would definitely steer you away from – thin with an odd bacony flavor. The fish, prepared with reduced batter for my mother, was wonderful. The third dish was meat loaf and maybe it was because we were so stuffed but it did not ring my bell. It had an intense sage flavor and was drowned in two sauces, tomato and a mushroom gravy. But: sides were perfection. Collard greens, «grilled» corn(don’t know how they do it but it has the sweetness of creamed corn without losing the crunch) and good buttery mashed potatoes. And great biscuits that we got seconds on. Because I expect southern food when I go to a fried chicken place in Dallas, there were some odd things to me. Where’s the pepper sauce aka chile peppers in a shaker jar of vinegar? When I asked they brought out some pepperoncinis in their juice which worked ok, but really? We also wanted something sweet for the biscuits(syrup or honey) and some cole slaw please! I would gladly order slaw ala carte but they don’t have it among their small selection of salads. Also, while on the southern rant, the fish is cod which while delicious on its own did not make a smooth flavor transition to the chicken. Catfish would have been better. We also tried the red velvet Twinkie which was interesting but not a home run. The server asked how we liked it and I said it was too heavy and got the feeling this is a common comment. She said it’s because of the red velvet ingredients but I think some more baking powder might be in order. The atmosphere is casual, paper covers on the tables, lots of families. A good list of beers on draft with a big Steiner Bock for $ 5. Location is a strip mall with a couple other restaurants; do it yourself parking should not be a problem. I hope I’ve been descriptive enough that you will weigh my eccentricities against your own preferences. I like what these guys are doing and expect to make a return visit, probably on my mom’s insistence next time I am in town.

I went with a group of about 17. While the service was great in the dining room and at the bar, the food was insanely salty. I like salt, but this was ridiculous. It was mostly the sides that came with the proteins(not the fish/beef/chicken itself), so you can kind of eat around the saltiness, but honestly, you shouldn’t have to. Being treated correctly by the waiter is great, but if the food is borderline inedible, it doesn’t make sense to go there. I had the scallop special that night(scallops with cheesy grits), and tried some of my companions’ food(apps/entrees). The fried green tomatoes were the only thing I had for which the level of salt was anywhere near appropriate. I should say that the drinks at the bar were absolutely delicious and the bartender was willing to do custom mixes to accommodate allergies and my weird drink preferences. The bar area is pretty cute, with a nice long wood bar and seats that are actually comfortable. Definitely a great spot to grab a fresh fruity drink or a beer! The parking situation can be a saga. If you opt to use the $ 5 valet(basically your only sane option if you’re a woman and alone), you are likely to have to wait a while(20 minutes) to get your car back when you’re ready to leave — there just aren’t enough valet guys to park and get all of the cars for the 4+ restaurants/bars that use the same lot. Overall, just not impressed with the food.

The menu is irresistible! So many comfort food options the best way to dine here is with a large group of friends that are willing to share bites. I am glad that is what we did — party of 9 for dinner on a Saturday night. We were the last to arrive and the other 7 had started at the bar with some yummy cocktails. As we were sat additional rounds and appetizers were ordered. The cocktail menu is quite creative and I was thrilled to have received a yummy virgin drink as the hard stuff is no good for fetuses but Cucumber Martinis were enjoyed by quite a few of the diners. The Hummus Trio and Mac and Cheese are awesome and were fun appetizers to share around. Some friends started out with crisp salads which were quite large for a pre-dinner starter. I had the Seasonal Gnocchi which came with Asparagus, Mushrooms and more… and Hubby had a pizza, a ‘Cheesy Pie’… Unfortunately, a past it’s prime Parmesan shaker was brought to the table. So past it’s prime that is resembled bleu cheese. One of the owners fixed this problem by remaking and comping the pizza. Both of our entrees were awesome, a few friends had the Fried Chicken which they thought was divine. The serving of this dish was also so large that boxes were called for. Our table ordered one of each dessert. This was a great idea, do it. The Bread Pudding was some of the best I have ever had and the Salted Carmel Sundae was perfection in it’s mix of salty and sweet and cold and hot! The service was professional, there was not one hiccup in service for our table of 9 less the Parmesan shaker, which while not the waiter’s fault really should have been glanced at by somebody at some point prior to arriving at our table.

I’ve only ever gone here for the Sunday dinner deal. This past Sunday was my 4th trip.(Sorry for taking so long to write a review!) They’ve been featured on the locally-produced«Foodies» TV show and I need to try them one day for breakfast. But, this review covers their super Sunday supper. You get a choice of catfish, mom’s meatloaf or fried chicken to start. They also bring endless biscuits(from scratch!), yummy corn, mashed potatoes, and some greens of some sort which never found their way onto my plate. The meatloaf is what I always order.(Creature of habit) And I am usually too full to take advantage of the Sunday meal deal’s fantastic all-you-can-eat feature. So, go on an empty stomach and get your $ 16’s worth! BTW, in case he’s reading it, co-owner Dekker is way cute. Totally the charmer. Smiles like you’re a restaurant critic, eye contact like he wants your number, and he remembers your name — thanking you as you leave. I’m not worried about writing this here. He already knows he’s hot. =) Table service was great. Décor is fun. Check out the patio’s unique ceiling fans(if I don’t steal them late one night first!). They make a signature french toast for breakfast if you’re up early enough to give that a spin. And they have a

Tonight was my third and last time trying this restaurant. Not sure how the owner stays so skinny cooking like this. We started with the Hummus Trio and asked for half pita chips, half vegetables and the bartender said that wasn’t an option. That’s odd. After skimming the entrees and finding nothing of any health value(not even a chicken breast to be found), we decided on the Sea Bass with Scallop Cake made of zucchini, tomato and squash and the Pork Chop. We added a half chop salad, dressing on the side. The salad came dressed, which we decided to try in the off chance it might work. We can’t believe any one eats a salad with that much dressing, so we sent it back and they kindly came back with a new salad. The Sea Bass was cooked correctly, but salted so much it overpowered the fish. It was drenched in oil and sitting on a butter sauce on half the plate. The scallop cake must have been missing the ingredients tonight, because if there was scallops and veggies, they were scant at best. The asparagus spears were so salty you could hardly eat them and again, drenched in butter/oil. The Pork Chop was actually decent and lean. That was one of the better dishes we’ve tried at H&D. Leaving, I felt bloated and heavy and unhealthy. Looking at the patrons coming in, it caters to a crowd who doesn’t care about clean eating and healthy options. Good luck H&D. That’s a shame as we live in the neighborhood and want these business to thrive.

whoa, how am I just now coming here? well, I know why — bc I thought it was a place I wouldn’t like. I think some friends came when it was first opening and I kinda got the vibe that it was douche town. somehow we ended up here for brunch today and upon walking in it was nothing like I expected, and I mentioned that it reminded me of Kitchen 1924 which was a huge favorite until its untimely demise. Later, upon reviewing the menu I realized it’s from the same roots, so that was cool. I loved the cozy atmosphere, the cushy butt-hugging barstools and the AMAZING menu — I seriously wanted everything on it. The service was casual and friendly, and besides one 46 yr old man in pearl snaps and a faux hawk, the douche factor was non existent. Now on to the food. Brown sugar bacon? yes, please! And not just one strip, but a full plate of wonderfully seasoned, perfectly crisp bacon. If I were in the business of giving out awards for best breakfast side dishes in Dallas, Horne and Dekker would definitely get the trophy for this bacon. Another plus, they placed a huge plate of fluffy biscuits on our table, with butter(that was perfect temp for spreading, and if you know me you know cold butter is instantly a minus star) AND some amazing red berry jam. overall everyone loved their food, but I have to say the standout was my fried chicken and biscuit(with gravy that tasted like something Paula Deen’s angel would serve in her restarurant in heaven). Apparently the chicken is roasted and THEN fried, who knew such a thing could be done? You can always count on me to order the chicken and waffles, but I have to say this combination puts that classic to shame. Tasty, tasty, tasty! What a pleasant surprise and I’m sorry it took me so long to discover this place. I will definitely put it in my rotation, and it’s made the favorites list(and it’s very similar to the current #1, Neighborhood Services, only without the deafening crowd noise and just slightly snooty staff). I will hold off on the 5th star until I’ve come for dinner and drinks, but I am hopeful!

Horne & Dekker. Is it an appliance? Law firm? It actually happens to be a pretty great happy hour spot. $ 5 pizzas, $ 4 wells, $ 3 beer on tap. Free valet. The pizzas we tried were great — we ended up eating 4 of them in our group, along with the chips appetizer which everyone loved as well. The service was excellent and we tried 3 desserts before leaving. The peanut butter buckeyes — meh, could’ve made them at home, skip. The coconut pie — DELISH. But the favorite was definitely the banana bread –bread pudding. There was this salted caramel sauce on it that I could’ve picked up the plate and licked it clean. Love the atmosphere… a cozy modern feel with a little kitsch thrown in for fun. Who doesn’t love astro-turfed walls? Needless to say, my compadres and I will definitely be planning more happy hours at the Horne & Dekker.

Summary: Come here with a big group and do the«Grape Me and Grub Me». You’ll have a fantastic time and you won’t have to hit a bar afterwards. I came here on a Saturday night with 6 other people. My friends don’t understand the concept of being on time for a reservation at a busy restaurant, so half our party got there 40 minutes late(if you read any of my other reviews, you’ll see this is a trend). Our waiter(I believe his name was Steve) was very nice about it and didn’t make us feel bad. The waiter convinced all but one of us to do the«grape me and grub me». The whole table is supposed to do it, but he let us do it anyway. He explained we’d get 4 courses, and drinks to pair with each and that it was a great way to try everything on the menu. So I tried 6 different appetizers, entrees, and deserts. None of it was bad; some of it was great. I really like the H and D chips and duck confit(both had a little kick). I’ve read some reviews complaining about the lack of duck in the duck confit, but it still tastes really good. I was given the caesar salad, which was really good. It had some strangely(but amazingly) juicy sundried tomatos. I had the ribs and grits for my entrée, which may have been my favorite… maybe a close second to the duck breast. The duck breast comes with the lightest whipped sweet potatos you’ll every try. I don’t really like sweet potatos but these were very good. I’ll probably order that next time I come. All the deserts were great, but the brownies were the best. The bread pudding and buckeye balls are fantastic as well. Now if you are going to do the«grape me» along with the«grub me» you’re going to need a DD. But they’ll probably offer him a free drink anyway, so you should just take a cab. We were only supposed to get 4 drinks, but we got 5, all excellent wines, beers, and cocktails. One person didn’t get the grape me, but was still brought two drinks. And you’d expect them to bring out the cheaper drinks, but they didn’t! This is a GREAT deal. We had to take a cab home… The best thing about all of this was that the waiter insisted if we were served something we didn’t want, he’d bring us something else. He brought white wine to somebody who perfered red, so he just left the extra glass of white on the table and brought out a glass of red.

Saturday night live! 9:00PM and Horne & Deckker is packed. The bar, the restaurant and the patio are willed with good looking people in Dallas dressy casual enjoying themselves. We had reservations but the large table was not ready yet. No big deal so we sat at the bar and marveled over the wine and beer list. Notable mentions are Margerum M5, Van Duzer Pinot Noir and Moose Drool Brown Ale from Big Sky Brewing. You have the run of a full bar as well. We were seated along the side wall perfect for a two, four or big top party with booths to your back and chairs in the isle. Our waiter was prompt, knowledgeable and funny. A nice kicker. The menu is good ‘ol home cooking and the prices won’t break the bank. The fired chicken and Dr Pepper Pork Carnitas stood out along with the meat special, sirloin medallions over mashed potatoes and asparagus topped with a lump crab cake and a light peppercorn sauce. All three were sampled and all three were great. I especially enjoyed the steak. Not filling but very satisfying. The fried chicken was done well and friend nicely without being burnt to a crisp. The three pieces, leg, breast and thigh made for a good portioning. Save room for the sides. Wine, beer and cocktails flowed until there was no more food to be eaten. And then came the desert. To the disappointment of one guest, they were out of Peanut Butter Buckeyes but to make up for it, we were treated to Coconut Cream Pie, Chocolate Three-Way and my ultimate favorite, the Sea Salt Brownie. Man was this good. And I’m not a sweets guy. The bottom line is this is a great place. The food, service atmosphere and above all, the price. I look forward to coming back. And often. Thank you Shawn for the wonderful food creations and Flynn to taking the time to keep an eye on us. Much appreciated.

We went there for dinner and we loved the biscuits they give you at the beginning(delicious!, warm, with excellent flavor and a yummy sweet butter), the wine(a recommendation from the waiter) and the dessert(coconut cream pie). The specific appetizer(shrimp diablo) and the entrée(ribs) we got were not great(the flavor was just ok) so if I came back I would try something different. Overall excellent service and ambience.

+ a half star. We all have that friend that is late to EVERYTHING. Well, mine also happens to lie about it. «what? Oh yeah, I’m 5 minutes away…» A group of us met for dinner, with reservations at 9. Mind you, H&D closes at 10. When it was 9:30 already and we were still waiting for our diva, we started to discuss going somewhere else. Our friend finally showed up and the people at H&D convinced us to stay. The guy assured us he WANTED us to stay and that it was no problem at all. A little hesitant and feeling rather guilty for keeping the staff there longer than they may have wanted, we decided to get seated for dinner. Service was friendly, but we were the only table still getting food. We ordered the spicy chips to start and I really liked these. Fancy chips, homemade and covered in some sort of sauce(remoulade type) with bacon bits. Mmm, tasty start. For entrees I think we ran the gambit and everyone ordered a different plate. I guess for everyone else their food was good, because there were no offers to share. :) I ordered the ribs and grits. It came in a large bowl with the ribs atop. I think I may have preferred this on a plate… The grits consistency was not to my liking and it was a bit… fat and mushy. It felt more like a blob in my mouth instead of a bit creamier texture how I like. They also seemed a tad dry. The ribs had some obvious fat blobs that were difficult to cut when in a bowl of grits. The bbq like sauce on the ribs was more sweet, so if that’s how you prefer your sauce, it could be up your alley. Our diva was pretty much gnawing on his porkchop bone, so I’m sure that was enjoyed. Fried chicken looked like a very crisp batter with juicy meat waiting to be unveiled underneath. After the gracious and warm visit of the place, I’d be more than happy to come back to eat something else here.

The tasting menu is a good value. It’s four courses-salad, appetizer, entrée and dessert. When you first arrive, they start you out with aqua fresca and sugar biscuits. The sugar biscuits were so delish, I had to get seconds. We went for the four course tasting, but I wish we hadn’t. There were other items on the menu that I would have liked to try. First course was a salad. Nothing spectacular. Good dressing. Second was appetizer-hummus and something called«duck duck goose». The hummus was a trio and the red pepper hummus was my favorite. We didn’t get the«duck duck goose». It was duck and potatoes. A hodge podge of randomness. The duck was good, but didn’t go with the potatoes. Both our entrees were chicken dishes. Mine was a pan seared chicken with a balsamic dressing and risotto. The chicken and balsamic dressing were a tad bit on the salty side. The hubs also got a chicken dish. When I asked him about it, he said«chicken is just chicken». He wasnt too thrilled. We both wished we could have tried some other dishes on the menu. The dessert was heaven. Coconut cream pie and Peanut butter buckeyes. I’m not a fan of peanut butter, but the hubs said it was delicious. The coconut cream pie was to die for. Service was great for the most part since we were one of three tables. It slowed down a bit towards the end when were were in a hurry to leave… could it have been because the guys friends came in? The waiter did come running after us when we left our box with the coconut cream pie on the table.
