Its sad to this formerly revered barbecue fade into the sunset. The quality of the ingredients has dropped to a foodservice low and the brisket seems precut and processed. Side dishes are absolutely awful and taste right out of can. There are way too many far better options than Sonny Bryan’s, why waste the money. I gave it 2 stars only because of the cheerful service.

Good, solid BBQ. Now that I’ve been in Dallas, there other stuff to try, but this was some of the first BBQ I had here since moving from WV.

First time visit. Really good BBQ but rather pricey. Chopped beef sandwich, one side and a drink was over $ 10. Not used to paying so much for a quick lunch.

Sonny Bryan’s is decent bbq. You walk in hungry and you walk out smelling like a smokehouse. Well, it is a smokehouse. You just smell like it all day. The rolls they serve are lovely. The ribs and brisket were both a little dry and bland. It’s pretty fast and you don’t have to stand in long lines.

Little better than average barbecue place. Liked the chopped brisket and chicken. Rolls are nice and warm, better than typical bread. Would recommend for those wanting a quick bite

Excellent BBQ for a reasonable price. This place is clean and is no frills down home BBQ Texas style. I might be back tomorrow to take some back to Cali with me– thinking a pound of that juicy sliced brisket and some sauce. Was a bit disappointed with the fried okra though.

Had the plate, so sampled several meats. Brisket was good, but too dry to be considered great. Overall, good ‘backyard’ bbq food and environment. Rolls were delicious, sides were average, meat was good. I will definitely go again.

Tried their pull pork sandwich plate with potato salad and fried okra today. The BBQ sauce was OK but the pork was a little bit dried. I really like their delicious potato salad but would pass in the okra. Service was on par, nothing special and nothing to complain about. Might come back to try their ribs!

Pretty good Bbq, great sauce. They brought around rolls every so often that were very fluffy and delicious. My crew was pretty impressed with the pre-made Arnold Palmers

Saw this place on MVF and had to give it a shot. The food was good and very affordable. You definitely get that backyard vibe with the BBQ sauce served in Corona bottles and your meal served on metal plates. Good eats!

Everything here is good, not great, but solid. Husband had the sliced beef sandwich, with fried okra, and mashed potatoes. He said he liked everything okay, but he had to add a little bit of butter and some ranch to his potatoes. I had the chopped beef sandwich, with green bean casserole, and macaroni and cheese. The green bean casserole was a little salty, and the macaroni was just your average macaroni and cheese. The BBQ sauce was good and warm, and they had a pickle and onion bar with pickled jalapenos, butter for bread, and another pork sauce that was also decently good. The jalapenos were empty the entire time we were there, but to be fair it didn’t look like anybody was missing them anyways. The customer service was really excellent. I had half a barbecue sandwich leftover, which I used the next day on another hamburger bun it made another decent sandwich. All and all I’ll definitely come back, but there are some other BBQ places that have them beat.

I’m a bread lover and this place has one of the best rolls in town. It literally got me wiggling with joy even tho I was exhausted from a long day of work. If you dine in you get that Texas homey feeling with welcoming and friendly staff. The brisket was delicious, I just wish they had a house sauce that was spicy. The green bean cassaerol was perfect because it was not too salty or blan and the mash potatoes tasted homemade with goodness. Next time I going for dessert first.

When I was visiting family in Dallas, I asked to be taken to a good Texas BBQ joint. I was far from impressed. Ive had better BBQ from chain restaurants. At least the portions were big, but the taste was lacking.

Three stars because the staff was super friendly and the service was good. The food was a letdown though. Brisket and pulled pork was dry and bland. Sausage and ribs were average. The rolls/buns however, were a fantastic bright spot. I might just order some for takeout.

When you come to Texas, one must have BBQ. But finding a great BBQ place on a Sunday is difficult to find since most establishments close on Sundays. So one of the few BBQ places open on a Sunday was Sonny Bryan’s. I had been to one, years ago, but not this particular location. I went for the 3 meat combo, ordering dark meat chicken, pork ribs, and brisket. The combo comes with 2 sides, I went with the cole slaw and fries. My friend also went with the 3 meat combo, ordering white meat chicken, pork ribs, and beef ribs, with mac and cheese and cole slaw. Service was fast. The meal also came with a fresh baked biscuit. The dark meat chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy and flavorful. I also enjoyed the pork ribs. My favorite out of the meats was the brisket. It was so tendered it was like chunks of brisket meat. The meats didn’t have much of a smokey flavor to it. Sometimes BBQ places go overboard with the hickory smokiness to the meats. This time is was slightly under for my taste. But it was still good. Sonny Bryan’s is a Texas staple apparently. It’s good food and a dang good price. The 3 meat combo plate will run you around $ 13 and change. Can’t beat the price for the amount of food.

Since I had not dined here in awhile I was hoping for some good BBQ. I ordered a half pound of pulled chicken. I was surprised that no bread came with it. I asked for rolls. Presentation was on a small plate with no room for any pickles or onions. The chicken was very watery and salty with no taste of chicken what so ever. In departing I mentioned it to management but they did not offer to make it right. Simply said they were sorry. If employees are not empowered to replace a bad meal I really do not care to eat their again.

BBQ does a body good. Walk into Sonny Bryan’s and you’ll leave smelling like a smokehouse. The food overall was okay. Limited smokey goodness. The sauces seemed to be more their specialty. My husband and I had a lil’ bang bang. We felt awful afterwards, but managed to make it to our hotel gym 3 hours later unlike Louis CK: P I read about Sonny Bryan’s in some travel magazine and managed to scoop one out across the street from Trader Joe’s. The thing I love most about the décor? The little table and chair set which appeared to be attached to the outside of the building. Great place for a photo op! It kind of reminded me of one of those vintage schools at Knotts Berry Farm. When attacking a combo platter, do the following : –Don’t wait to eat the rolls. Eat them first while they’re hot! Otherwise, they won’t taste as good. You’ve been warned. –Proceed to eat the warm sides first. Green Bean Casserole was pretty standard. –If you think the pulled pork is too dry, try to dip it in their«special pork» dipping sauce. –The ribs were my husband’s fav out of the platter. Not bad. –Brisket was moist and tender. Lacked in flavor. Needed sauce. Sonny’s BBQ sauce needs to be kept warm. It has a tangy sweetness. –Fried onion rings… Good golly. I’d advise you to NOT order this especially if this is your second lunch/dinner. Best for sharing. –Cole slaw. Forgetaboutit.

This place is always consistently good, and I DIG that about a restaurant! The staff is friendly and accommodating and someone always circles around the restaurant with extra rolls. I really like pulled pork, and theirs is pretty darn good! The jalapeño sausage is excellent too. My husband gets the brisket and ribs, and enjoys both each time. The inside is no frills for décor… but no frills are needed… the food is always really good!

This was way disappointing. My sliced beef showed no outward sign of having ever been near a smoker – greyish and bland. The green beans and baked beans both had the consistency of something that’d come out of a can. Mac and cheese was your basic buffet/foodservice fare. The jalapeño sausage was the most flavorful thing on the plate, and the bbq sauce bottles were heated, and those two things together save this from being my first one-star review. What we didn’t try: the onion rings, which are, in fact, absolutely huge. I don’t know where you find onions the size of softballs, but these folks have, and they’ve fried them. I suppose if you’re really into onion rings(not making fun, I know it’s a thing) then these might be worth a trip? Otherwise, I’m still bewildered that I’ve had better bbq in Boston than I just had in Dallas.

Another review of a Dallas BBQ joint, and pretty much the same barbecue as other bbq joints other than lockhart smokehouse or pecan lodge. The boo and I had decided to get some carry out to watch the Aggie’s ROLL over Bama(WHOOP!) We had lunch coupons for buy one get one free so you know we were esctatic about that. We decided to order 4 ¾th pound plates. We were able to try the brisket(moist & lean), ribs, sausage(regular and jalapeño), smoked bone-in chicken, turkey, mac and cheese, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes(seasonal), and potato salad. We all know how dallas bbq joints are… meats that barely have any smokiness, texture which seems like the meat was boiled rather than smoked. pretty much bland without any sauce. Sonny Bryan’s sadly falls into this reputation. Brisket should not be grey all around, it should have a nice bark with a slight smoke ring. It should be tender enough to easily pull apart without having to apply much force. The brisket had a grey pale color and no distinguising signs of being smoked. Neither did the sausage. The ribs, chicken, and turkey all fared better. Ribs weren’t fall apart tender which means they werent over cooked. Chicken and turkey were juicy. The sides were all good. Seems like these days BBQ joints pride themselves on better sides than meat. I have plenty of coupons still left so of course i’m going to be visiting sonny bryans again… it’s just that i won’t be that blown away.
