This is more a bar than a restaurant but it was late and they were open. Service was excellent – 5 Stars. The food, however, was ok – 2−3 stars. I had snow crab legs and one of the clusters(had 3 clusters) was poorly done – meat sticking to the shell. Hubby had the Cajun Carnival – a sampler of their 5 most popular meals – I wouldn’t recommend it. The portions were huge. The fried pickles and fried mushrooms were great. The shrimp/crawfish hush puppies were the best. Blackened chicken and pasta was not too bad. Gumbo was ordinary, jambalaya just didn’t cut it and red beans and rice seemed too overcooked. Seating was limited inside the establishment so we sat outside. They could use another outdoor heater for the size of the area. Other patrons were drinking and were too loud. One of the other customers had his dog on a leash with him so I assumed pets were allowed. Overall a satisfactory experience.

Shuck-n Jive is a DIVE and the bartenders run scams. The bartender collected a tab for our first round of drinks(3). We had 2 more drinks and oysters. Another person in our group paid the second tab without looking at the bill. When we went to leave we were charged with a third tab. All three tabs came to 100.00 for 5 drinks and a dozen oysters. We looked at the bills and the second tab was actually someone else’s. It had fireball shots that the bartender kept trying to sell to one of us. We went back to complain and it became obvious that it was deliberate. I would never go back there.

We came here on Thanksgiving for their Thanksgiving Dinner but they were sold out by the time we arrived. No biggie, the game was coming on so we opted to just stay here, watch a little bit of the game and try out some of the proclaimed Cajun goodness they had to offer. The menu is a typical Cajun seafood menu, offering fresh, fried, grilled seafood, gumbo, jambalaya, etc. There wasn’t anything spectacular about the menu — until I saw the ‘world famous catfish.’ Now, I love me some catfish, so I just had to check this out! Before the main event, Rod got us the sausage/boudin appetizer. VERY good, not the best boudin but very close. Unfortunately, that’s where the goodness stopped. My catfish arrived and while it was a very large portion, the batter wasn’t seasoned too well but it was also fried so hard that all I could taste was the charred portions of the batter and grease. It wasn’t good at all. The best thing about my plate was the red beans and rice which were just okay. Wish I could write a better review as this place seems to be a very popular staple on Greenville Ave, but it just didn’t hit the mark for me.

The food was terrible. And it was overpriced beyond belief. 10 dollars for a small container of jambalaya which didn’t taste like anything recognizable from New Orleans. Then in the chicken and shrimp basket they skimp on the food. Don’t go here. Ever I don’t even want to give it one star. Chris L. G.

First time at the restaurant(11÷7÷2015). Food was adequate, probably a bit over priced for the quality. We found the service to be very good. But, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you like most of the clientele loud, drunk, and lots of profanity. I’m not a prude, but it got old after a while.

It was pretty good going down. But it went right straight through me. I eat Cajun all the time in the oilfield, so I don’t have a weak stomach. I think it was the shrimp. Maybe wasn’t cleaned, I’m not sure. But I know one thing, couldn’t make it back to my apartment, had to throw away my outfit.

Courteous and personable staff, attentive service. The beer selection left something to be desired: good beer. Karaōke was late to start, but it could have been worse.

As a native Louisianan, I feel like I know good cajun food when I see/taste it. The photos and reviews on Unilocal were generally positive, so I decided to give this place a shot. Note, my order was to go, so I can’t comment on the speed of service or anything. The food was very mediocre overall. I wanted to like it, and I did eat it all, but the whole time I was thinking to myself that I’ve had a lot better. It wasn’t terrible but wasn’t memorable either. I ordered the shrimp and crab hushpuppies as an appetizer, and they had good seafood flavor, but were so soggy that they almost fell apart in my hand, and they were literally swimming in an inch of grease in the container. Meh. The entrée I got was the Jive Party Plate, which includes catfish, oysters, shrimp, a hushpuppy, fries, and red beans and rice. The catfish wasn’t strong and had good flavor but was more nuggets than true fillets. The oysters were tiny and mostly batter, and the shrimp were some of the worst I’ve had. I love butterfly shrimp but these were pounded so flat and covered in so much breading they were barely recognizable as shrimp. The fries were just normal and the red beans had good flavor. Overall this place was just okay. I probably wouldn’t eat here again.

Went here with my family, feels like a great place for the locals to have a beer or five and we had a great time here as well. The service was awesome, my entrée had a small flaw which our server remedied speedily and graciously.(Drew? Thanks buddy). My sister and mom had the crab stuffed shrimp which they deemed on point. Sports on tv, outdoor patio, great time.

Fantastic seafood! I had the crab legs, and even though I’m from the gulf coast these are the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was casual and fun. We sat on the patio. Highly recommended! The fried pickles were good too as an appetizer

Searched a couple different seafood places and this one definitely stands out. Crawfish was good, oysters were fantastic! Nicole did a fantastic job! We will be returning! !

Not bad for a dive seafood place… if you don’t mind all the trash(including used latex gloves, for crawfish… I hope) covering the patio floor. Beer was cold. Staff was attentive to our needs, just not cleaning up. Crawfish were tiny and lacked any flavor at all. The shrimp and crab fried battered balls were nothing but fried batter and cheese. Disappointed.

It had been years since I had eaten at this restaurant. You don’t find very many seafood spots that open late. When I first walked in, the was a full-force aroma of vomit essence. I wasn’t sure if one of their patrons had a little accident or if the scent was something permanent. It’s not very settling to smell that when you’re about to order some seafood. But we stay and give it a try. So on the plus side the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I had ordered the steamed mussels. Taste wise it was good. Tons of butter and garlic(the portion was smaller than what I was expecting). At any rate it wasn’t a terrible experience. Would I go back?

Good stuff! I’ve taken my mom, I go with all kinds of friends just for drinks at the bar, I’ve pigged-out(with close friends) on peel-and-eat shrimp and/or at all you can eat CRAWFISH(!!!) weekend — and yes, they did still very much happily honor that even once I rounded the 10lb mark!

The food here is adequate. Severely overpriced. But worst of all is the absolute piss-poor attitude from the waitstaff.

The crab stuffed shrimp. O.M.G. Decadent! Just delicious. Please try it. Anyways. This is a great place to stop before you go to Central Market. It’s got pretty decent parking, full sit down service, fresh oysters on the half, and a comprehensive menu that includes fried pickles, po boys, jambalaya, étouffée, andoullie sausage dishes, red beans and rice, and some good turf options. Drinks are always nice and strong. This is an actual oyster bar as it is meant to be. It’s little bit of a divey place on the outside, but inside is clean, has some pretty cool artwork, and speedy service. Worth a try!

Had to give the Gumbo tonight a 4 Star rating, when the live band started playing the Royals started falling apart. However, Connie the nice waitress, made the gumbo very good with more okra than normal !!!

Stopped by this weekend with my main man. He had the crab stuffed shrimp which I loved(he didn’t because they had a cheesish sauce on it that wasn’t disclosed on the menu). Bad for him he doesn’t really like cheese. But great for me because I got to eat most of it. I ordered the Cajun Carnival and it was pretty and big and good. I really like the Shrimp ettoufee and Cajun alfredo pasta. They were also having karaōke that night so all in all a pretty good time.

At first sight this place is a little spooky. From the outside it looks like a shack, and you know what, it is kind of shack. It kinda of wants to be a sports bar, like one you’d see on the Florida/Alabama border where people kick off their sandals on the sand and drink beer while slurping oysters. But, reality sets in. We are in Dallas. Shuck-N-Jive isn’t going to wow you with it’s décor, by any means. The«outdoor patio» is a bit run down and the inside bar has had better days, but we came here for Cajun food, right? And, fortunately, they do that pretty well. When it comes to value, and portions, they do it even better. The catfish dinner(we asked for one fillet blackened and the other fried) was enough to feed two. The blackened seasoning was done just right and the fried portion wasn’t greasy at all. Someone in the back knows how to make catfish, really good! And, the red beans and rice and fries that come on the plate could have fed another person. Kudos on the fry seasoning, too. Yum! As for the other dish — we went with the Shrimp Creole, because that’s what the server said to go with. And, a day later I still remember the flavor. The tomato based sauce was so good, the rice wasn’t necessary. You could literally live off the sauce, vegetables and shrimp. Best of all — this cost $ 22. Beat that.
