Awesome bbq! If anyone on here gives less than 4 stars then they have no idea what good bbq is. I travel the country for work and enjoy great restaurants everywhere I go. Slow Bone will definitely be on my return list. The ribs were the highlight, but the cilantro sausage and brisket were excellent as well. Great, friendly service. I’m sure any negative reviews are from people who have no business being here to begin with!

Stumbled on to this place by accident. Ordering for the first time I opted for a two meat plate of brisket and fried chicken. Side item wise, they have an interesting selection both cold and hot. Chose the mac n’cheese and horseradish potato salad. Brisket blew my mind. Perfect blend of meat and fat for the pinnacle of brisket goodness. Fried chicken was pretty darn good. I was super impressed with the sides. The MacNcheese had green chiles in it and was sooo flavorful. Loved every bite. The horseradish potato salad was probably the best thing I have eaten in a long, long time. Fun craft sodas at the drink bar as well as standard favorites. Gets a bit pricey(my meal of 2 meats, two sides and bread with drink was 18 $) but they are way generous on the servings, so much so that I had tasty leftovers for the next day. I took off one star because it gets very crowded very quickly and finding a seat is not easy. Parking is also super scary at peak hours. I will happily eat here any day of the week and take as many people as I can with me.

Well, if you’re a fan of charred and fatty meat that is overpriced, come visit this restaurant, little rally every bite I ate was either charred meat or fat, do not recommend this place to my worst enemy…

The BESTBBQ I have ever had!!! I got the lean side of the brisket and it was still super juicy and flavorful, you can easily cut it with a fork! Ribs were falling off the bone, and side items galore! The service was also awesome, people were super friendly! We will definitely be returning and probably be frequent customers.

Best Brisket I’ve had so far in Texas, i was kind of tentative on using the trays to eat my food out of. As soon as i tasted the brisket my attention was no longer on the tray but on the smoky depth of flavor coming from the brisket. Only flaw is the hours.

I get excited for BBQ … it is like a hobby of mine to go try and I my better half goes with me to all the places, hey it gives a good reason to get off the couch and out of the house next trip will be Houston When I walked in there was a dude just starting to slice up a fresh brisket and it looked cool until recently DALLAS sucked for bbq I mean the past couple years. I dont care what anybody says to that You go to Muellers BBQ any of them, or smittys to name a few, then tell me until recently who in Dallas even compares … Anyway back to slow bone Place was clean, pretty cool inside, has a little relish bar, price was as the same as all the rest of the BBQ places charge now that prices of beef is coming down I wonder when the brisket prices will come back down hey I get the whole goofy plate thing = saves on cost and gives everyone something to talk about For me the thing to talk about is not the goofy plates, it is the cornbread pudding I was reluctant to try it but after I did I was glad

I don’t eat barbeque often; I’m not a huge fan of eating that much meat in one setting and I always feel like I end up paying a lot for mediocre food. So proceed with my review knowing I would probably never rave about a BBQ joint! The Slow Bone just reiterated all my previous conceived notions about BBQ. I got a brisket sandwich and it was fine; a lot of meat and a loaf of bread. Would have liked some pickles or onions or something. The BBQ sauce that was served as a side wasn’t that great; vinegar-y and just sort of oddly flavored. My dining companions both agreed the sauce was sub-par. I got the mac and cheese side and was excited once I sat down because it looked like it had pieces of pepper in it, but after tasting it there was no spice or even really any flavor. Just carbs and flavorless cheese. My friends also got the cauliflower-brussel sprouts side and said it was good. Service was fine. The individuals doling out food did not seem remotely happy to be at work but they weren’t actively rude. The friendliest guy there was the bus boy, who was clearing tables promptly and said goodbye as we walked out the door. I hope he gets promoted. They serve the food on old-school stay cafeteria trays with individualized compartments, which is not only kitschy cute but probably also saves on unnecessary waste. The bathrooms were also oddly hot. Like, maybe they are adjacent to the smokers or something? I would not return, even if a friend wanted to go; I would try to steer them in the direction of another restaurant.

I have always passed by this place but had never stopped by so we decided to drop by for lunch. Trying to park in their parking lot was a mess, I found a spot but the crazy person next to me had decided to take 2 parking spots so I had to wait awkwardly for them to leave, which took forever! Let me tell you that when the reviews said that there would be a line… there was a pretty sized line but we were able to get to the front of the line pretty quickly. I had gotten the 2 meat platter with corn bread and corn bread pudding. I loved the corn bread! Love love loved it! The pudding I could go without. Not that it wasn’t good but it was too sweet for my tastes.

Traveled from Austin for this BBQ and will do it again. Great customer service! We were greeted and welcomed by any and every employee that passed us. Excellent mix of people and music. Brisket is tender and they ask if you prefer a lean cut or fatty cut. I also ordered the sweet potatoes which are AMAZING… so much so that I ordered some to go. The cornbread is not sweet like I prefer but it’s good nonetheless.

I would give this 3.5 stars — it wasn’t the BEST barbeque I’ve ever had, but it was very far from the worst. Their ribs and mac and cheese were by far the BEST thing we had there. The ribs were fall off the bone, southern style, the mac and cheese was pure heaven — cheesy and delicious. The brisket was okay, BUT i’m not a fan of brisket. I always get it based on reviews at these kinds of places, and i’m always like«ehhh, blah,» the cilantro sausage was different(I don’t know if it was a good or bad different yet). The potato salad was by far the thing I liked the least, I would not get it again. This place had a line of 8 people when we got there, which was about 10 mins before opening, and had a steady stream of people coming in constantly. Be prepared to wait. Also, for out of towners like us, this is located in a more industrial part of the city — not in the«hip» area of Dallas.

Very happy to find this place near our client in Dallas. So far I’ve been twice, but I’m already in a rut — getting the two meat with ribs and brisket. Neither are served sauced, which is great — the rubs have a nice rub on the outside, and the brisket has incredible bark, absolutely delicious. The brisket also has lots of smoke flavor, and I’ve been given the option of «fat or lean» both times, which is nice. I will say that I’ve gotten a couple bites of the brisket that tasted«old» — like day old or so, the way smoked meat like this can sometimes taste? But I really doubt that this was actually old… maybe it was just my imagination. Ribs are tender without being overdone, again with nice smoke flavor. So… of the two things I’ve managed to try, very good. Sides are a tiny bit hit or miss. Mac and cheese is awesome, but definitely not heart healthy, in a creamy cheese sauce with more cheese baked on top. The«brisket beans» are a little boring — they’re not sweet, but also not particualrly savory, so I kind of wish they had more sweet to them. That and a little jalapeño or something would liven these up nicely, but I think I might skip them next time. There’s also a kind of grilled veggies dish that’s worth it if you don’t want the super filling sides. Of note, you’ll encounter hot sides first as you walk down the line, so don’t forget to look a little further for the slaw — I missed this the first time through. As for cold sides, the mustard slaw is good, but it gets way better when you spoon some of the tangy BBQ sauce they provide directly on to the slaw, a la adding Texas Pete to the slaw in North Carolina to zip it up a bit. So if I had this to do over again, of the sides I’ve sampled, I’d go mustard slaw and mac and cheese. A two meat plate is plenty for lunch — we roll out of there. We could go smaller, but it’s nice to try stuff. Service is pretty fast and friendly. I think we’ll be back before this project is over.

My first experience with Dallas bbq was just wonderful. I arrived at lunchtime and the line was out of the door. They keep the line moving however. Every meal is made to order. So be patient. You can pick between a 1,2 or 3 meat platter. Sigh. I had a 3 meat platter. I picked smoked turkey, ribs and brisket. You get two sides and cornbread. The greens were a little too overpowered with vinegar. The Mac and cheese was delish! All 3 meats were really good. The brisket stood out however. It was flavorful, tender and had just enough fat on it. I want to come back and try the chicken or sausages. The sauce was good. I heard a customer behind me say that the sweet potato casserole was like dessert. I had cornbread pudding. Never had it before. It was super sweet and oh so good. Everyone here was really friendly. The place was pretty casual and clean. I spent about 17 dollars for my meal. No soda. Pricey for lunch, but I couldn’t even finish half of it and this rolled into a late dinner meal.

Wow. Another Great BBQ place. I had the ribs and another in the party had brisket. The ribs were so tender and full of flavor. There must have been 5 – 6 ribs in the plate maybe 7. This was the first BBQ Restrauant I have been to that when I finished my ribs I was completely full. No not true. I passed completely full at about 5 ribs and was more like stuffed. Large ribs and did I mention very tender. The sides were also extremely good. Sweet potatoes are desert for me. Brown sugar and pecans. Wow wow wow. People were very friendly the place was extremely clean. This place has ranked among the top BBQ places to revisit. Not a bad value. Two people brisket plate and rib plate plus 2 drinks $ 35.

Extremely friendly with service to boot but not all is moistly equal. Saturday noon was not too busy so I was excited to get in the door. Friendly at the line with a big smile from owner and master smoker, Jack Perkins. 2 meat plate at $ 14.99 is well priced and HIGHLY appreciated. All smokers should offer two things: 1. free onions 2. multiple meat plate to sample their goodness Thank you SB *The brisket with an inside, lean cut is SMOKY greatness that’s still moist. BOOM. Trim the fat and don’t lose a great meat. It is on the salty side but I don’t eat much so I taste it. Well worth the trip. *The BBQ sauce served in the molded, elementary school/prison plate is spicy with a low, slow burn. Perfect blend of kick with sweet. I like this allot. *The Cilantro Sausage is dry. I like the subtle flavor a but would pass. *The beans are boring. Nothing special here. *Love that they offer greens but I’ve had better and less bitter. I know these are tough and take allot of time to cook but so does smoking meat. Again, pass *Hush Puppies were bone dry. Dipped in Uncle Ross sauce and that helped but I’ll pass. Love the feel of this, not fancy, BBQ joint. Exactly what I would pull over and try. The brisket is great! Come for that meat. The rest is questionable. The parking is tricky. Make sure you park in the SB lot only. You will be towed. On the way out the door, The Jack waved at me and said«thanks for coming sir» Now that’s nice and the reason I WILL come back. Thank you, Sir.

I was looking for a good BBQ place for lunch within walking distance of my hotel and the 4-star rating sealed the deal. Good looking, clean, standard BBQ place with all the right sights and smells. Standard layout where you spy all the options, bark your order, watch them carve and assemble, pay and pig out. Got the two meat platter option with jalapeño sausage and brisket. The sausage was good enough with a nice texture, the expected smoky flavor and small jalapeño pieces imparting a subtle flavor with just enough heat. The brisket, however, left much to be desired. I got one piece with tasty bark, but the inside of it and the other piece were dry and chewy with little flavor — so little that I had to drown them in BBQ sauce. The sauce that came on the platter had an excellent balance of flavors and spice, with good consistency. As for the sides, the beans were nicely firm in texture and sprinkled with tender pieces of beef, but utterly tasteless. I guess if I hadn’t been to Lockheart Smokehouse the previous night where the beans are a star, then a little salt and pepper would have made them acceptable. The coleslaw was so bland and boring it could have come pre-made from Costco. Also in stark contrast with Lockheart which has the best coleslaw I’ve ever tasted. The cornbread was tasty and moist, and there is a solid toppings bar with more BBQ sauces, a variety of excellent picked things, and red onions. The iced tea was so watery it barely tasted like tea at all.

The Slow Bone is a fairly legit BBQ joint located just outside of downtown Dallas. The food here, primarily the Brisket is pretty delicious if you ask me. This is one of those straight up BBQ joint with minimal frills and décor around the establishment, heck you even eat off of the cafeteria style plates. Tried out the ribs, had the brisket, paired them up with a couple of sides(beans and Mac n Cheese) some cornbread and even went after a Frito Pie. All of this was washed down with some delicious prickly pear lemonade that was fantastic. The meal was very good and the sauce had a good vinegar taste to it which caught me off guard. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this place for those looking to experience traditional Dallas BBQ, ambiance and all… Pros– Portions Price Friendly service Brisket Sides Sauce Ribs Overall menu Cons– Location a bit spotty Parking Cafeteria style trays Frito pie was average

My first taste of Dallas BBQ less than 30 min after hopping off the plane. The brisket texture was the best out of all 4 places I tried. Super tender. Could have used more flavor on the rub. A little sauce was needed for each bite Sausage was the juiciest out of all the places, as well. Beans were a little bland. Sauce was needed for this too. The jalapeño mac and cheese was great. Good texture and hints of jalapeño. Fried chicken was a bit too greasy, although it tasted fantastic! I also loved the toppings bar. Homemade Asian chili sauce, pickles, pickled onions, and(iirc) jalapeños. So I was originally going to complain that they didn’t have everything available until I realized they actually let me in after they closed. As much planning as I did, I forgot they close at 3pm. When I was there, I had absolutely no idea. They didn’t rush me, they didn’t make any snide remarks. Great service. Everyone was so friendly! Also, out of all the places, Slow Bone definitely gave me the most food. Two pieces of fried chicken, two sides, and corn bread in addition to the two other meats complete the meal.

Mac and cheese for the win! GLORIOUS! Was on the hunt for good mac and cheese and the Slow Bone delivered! Mustard cole slaw was interesting, was not as flavorful as the man helping us had advertised. 3 meat platter was missing the hush puppies he said was included. Brussel sprouts gratin was really good. Flavorful, brussel sprouts were tender but not mushy, cornbread pudding, interesting. Their pickled items were so good. Crunchy, tangy but not overpowering with just the right sweetness. Everyone was very patient as we were noobs and werent sure what to order. Arrived at 11:05AM and there was already a line.

Smoked turkey, corn bread, cauliflower/Brussel sprouts gratin… I can die happy. During my visit to Dallas I was fortunate enough that our hosts had the great food sense to have lunch catered from The Slow Bone. Thank you! It was a delicious spread that hit all the highlights. The Cauliflower/brussel sprouts gratin is an original recipe that is definitely worth trying! Don’t be spooked by how green and healthy it sounds, it’s delicious and can hang with the other BBQ big boys like the brisket and pork. This meal had everything I look for in BBQ: smoked turkey(amazing when done correctly, which this was), cornbread– no explanation necessary, mac and cheese, creative sides and some iced tea/lemonade to wash it all down. This review is solely for the food since I did not eat at the establishment, but really, if the food is this good…
