Such a disappointment. I’ve grown up going to Mi Cocina and after coming back to Dallas, I realize I’d forgotten about the bad parts of Mi Cocina, namely the service and the food. I know, it feels like blasphemy – Mi Cocina is such a Dallas tradition – but the service is just frustrating, and the food, while fine, isn’t worth it. While Mi Cocina doesn’t usually take reservations, because we had a large party and I called ahead of time(about a week beforehand), one of the managers made an exception and allowed us to make a reservation. But when we arrived, they had no idea about our reservation, even when I mentioned the name of the manager who took the reservation. Our large party had to hover near the door until they awkwardly pushed together two round tables. And the food is just OK… we ordered fajitas, which were blah. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by the amazing Tex-Mex in Houston, but… for example, the flour tortillas were obviously NOT homemade – they were just something I could pick up at Kroger, which is fine, but not great. The only thing that’s great is the Mambo Taxi. On top of that, the food took about 30 minutes after we ordered to arrive. Even after that, they forgot the food for one person who got it even 15 minutes after the rest of us, which is awkward and left us with the option of our food getting cold while we waited for his food or being rude and going ahead to eat without him.

I come here all the time for lunch. Like I’m talking once a week. Service here, especially at this location, is phenomenal. It’s also super quick. As soon as you get seated, they have your chips and salsa at the table. They will take your order right away when you’re ready. And the food comes out insanely fast. If you have only 30 mins for lunch you would have about 10 mins to spare.

The food at Mi Cocina in general is just fair, not bad, not great, but serviceable. My wife and I try to eat vegan/vegetarian whenever possible, and they don’t have much to work with here. We usually either rescues the vegetable tacos or that the Rico salad be made with grilled vegetables. They always accommodate that, but many times like yesterday, we had a $ 10 bowl of lettuce with only a few vegetables tossed on top. They had a chance, but could not rise to the occasion. There are too many very good Mexican and Tex-Mex places in Dallas, this one gets relegated to visits of convenience, the others get more visits and more consistent visits.

If there was a contest for the worst fajitas in the city, this Mi Cocina would win. This was my first time at this Mi Cocina. I’ve been to the Galleria one a number of times & it is wonderful. The Preston Forest location has Mexican food for people who don’t know any better. Tonight my daughter & I ordered the combination chicken & beef fajitas. For $ 18, they should have been fabulous. They were served room temperature & about 4 slices of chicken &4 slices of beef. That was it. And, maybe a tablespoon or 2 of the fixings. That was it. When I told the waiter, he went from being polite to rude. He took them back & all they did in the kitchen was heat up the top portion of them. Underneath was still room temperature. Our waiter, after this, blatantly ignored us. He lost his 20% tip. Even though our meal was comped, I would have tipped the waiter on what the price would have been. The manager came by to ask how our meal was, so I was honest & told him. He seemed surprised that someone would actually complain! Really? He also acted surprised that this isn’t how fajitas should be! When I mentioned the high price & how I expected more, he answered, «Well, I don’t set the prices.» Really? Really, sir? He kept saying they’ve been there for 25 years & if I grew up in the neighborhood, how was this my first time? Well, it was, sir. And, it is my last time. And, that is irrelevant anyways. Were you trying to get me off the subject of your terrible food or the fact that you got caught trying to rip off your customers?

I have been regularly eating at this location for well over 5 years. It has gone way downhill in the past year. They keep changing recipes, and it has been for the worse. Salsa used to be very hot. Now it is bland, like crushed tomatoes. Fajitas used to be seasoned. Now they are totally bland. The food went from good mexican to something that tastes like Chilis. They still get lines, but the food sucks now.

Have been going to Mi Cocina since they opened their first store. Over the past year the quality of their food and service has continued to drop. Last night was my last time. We had to wait 30 min for a margarita and a menu seated in the back bar at a table. We finally had to move to the bar counter for service. My margarita had no mix in it, straight tequila on the rocks with a lime. The tacos al carbon were tasteless and cold. Reordered Ernie’s chicken and disappointingly arrived the same. Adiós Mi Cocina. Thanks for the memories!

Usually good food, service is good, waiters are kind of hard to understand because of their accent, I know its not their fault or anything just hard to communicate sometimes. We got queso and I could tell it was sitting there for a while cause the top was a darker color than the middle. And it was gelatin like not creamy. Their all friendly, a little pushy with the food and what to take to go. «take this with you«, oh no I’m good, «I can put it in a bag ect» I’m good thanks. «I’ll bring you a bag of chips to go». Uh thanks. Otherwise not a bad place.

Don’t let the outside fool you. The inside looks better than you’d think. We walked to the back where the bar is. Unlike most places where the bar is near the front, this one is literally hidden in the back. It is a bit strange because there’s no windows. It fees like you’re in some hidden room. I loved it though! You can’t hear any of the loud noise from the restaurant. I ordered the brisket nachos and a sangria. The sangria was huge! It had such a great flavor too! The brisket nachos were on point! So flavorful! They come with an avocado salad and rice. I never can eat the rice because I always end up eating way too much of the salsa and chips. Their salsa is just too good to resist. Service was a little spotty but i won’t complain. The manager stopped by our table to check on our experience which I really appreciate. I feel like restaurants rarely do that anymore.

Food was very good and service was outstanding! Even the«chip» servers greeted you when they brought chips to the table. Enjoyed the Poblano chicken enchiladas.

Just ok. We ordered the lunch fajitas. They came out just warm, not sizzling, just barely warm. The chicken seemed like it came out of a can. No flavor and didn’t seem like it was fajita chicken. Our waiter acted mad and didn’t seem like he cared at all. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Ate here for our 100th time and just discovered you can order huge bowls of different salsas. Not the tiny bowls, huge bowls of alls different salsas!!! Alex the front manager went into the kitchen and whipped up his special secret salsa that my wife and I absolutely love. Thanks so much for going the extra mile for us!

The last several times I have been to Mi Cocina, I have been completely disappointed. The Shrimp Brochette smelled«gamey» and had no flavor and same for the rice. The charro beans were too salty. I will not be back.

Brother is in town, so we came to Mi Cocina. After the disappointment that was the Lu-Ann’s last time I was here I decided to try something that someone on here had seemed to enjoy. The Fernando’s(Quatros Sabores), and this was much less tasty than the Lu-Ann’s. The rice was green, so it must be one of what they so cutely call ”The Moderns”. No flavor here. Sweet corn tamale, apparently it is a ‘thing’ now to fill tamales with tamal dough then steam it and call it done. Nope, no flavor here either. Spinach enchilada with salsa verde, meh, it was okay and it DID taste like spinach, but that overpowered whatever flavor was in the salsa. Poblano chicken enchilada was good, surprisingly!, but could not make up for the disappointments. In fact, I didn’t even try my brisket taco. Turns out I brought half of each enchilada(and YES nosy waitress it was a lot of food, but your comment was NOT appreciated or even solicited) and the tamal home as well as the whole brisket taco. But time did not make the heart grow fonder. Lunch today was the remainder of the chicken enchilada, the rest ended up in the trash. Just a word of warning — the brisket tacos DONOTLOOKATALLAPPETIZING the day after. Rumor has it that Mico has gone to a new restaurant, that might be worth looking up.

I come here a lot, to this location in N. Dallas and also to the others locations. One thing that that I love about this place is the consistency. The mambo taxis are always awesome and after two I start giggling, which means they’re doing their job. Is it pricey? Yeah. But so far I have yet to find a flan better than the one M.C. makes. If anyone has a suggestion, please feel free to shoot me a msg. I’ve tried pretty much everything on the menu and my go to is either the tacos de pescado(fish tacos), enchiladas con mole, or the carne asade(try it rare, it’s perfect). This place also has the best chips. It’s not too thin, not too big, not too thick, but juuuuust right. And the salsa is my favorite. Just imo, of course. I personally can’t believe that this place gets bad ratings period. The servers are always attentive and the manager is always seen walking around.

Favorite Mexican food in Dallas so far. Fun atmosphere. Upstairs has cool seating. Two good bar areas to get a drink while waiting for a table. Mambo taxi is the common drink order. I recommend the Beef or chicken fajitas sunset style. Comes with crispy onions, cheese, and fresh guacamole. The salsa is spicy and delicious. Great portion sizes. The west village location has great outdoor seating. Plan on an hour wait if you go on a Friday or Saturday night. Seating available for larger groups.

Extremely overpriced for bad food. Not a lot of options. I got the cocina carna. It was listed as shredded chicken in two flour tortillas with choice of sauce. I got two gas station fried 2 inch chimichangas with only dark meat, a side of cold can pinto beans, and a side of cold jar queso blanco. It was $ 17.45. They was my entrée alone. Margaritas that were way too strong and another plain cheese enchilada entrée cost us 60 bucks. No thanks. Poor service, they messed up other orders at our table and didn’t ask for drink orders because not one employee out of about 30 knew a lick of English. Could not pay me to go back.

Mi Cocina has it down. They make really good Tex-Mex(really fast) and serve some solid margaritas. It is certainly a well-known staple of the Dallas food scene. And if you go, you can guarantee that your clothes will«smell like MiCo» the next day. Just don’t wear a sweater, or else you will definetly need a dry cleaner. I had been a big fan of the brisket tacos for a few years. But they are just too salty for me now. I have gravitated to the Tacos Mi Tierra that translates to «street tacos» and are basically three tortillas with fajita meat(chopped) and onions and jalapenos. It offers the same flavor of a fajita without the need to build them at the table. But for its glorious food(all across the Dallas area), each location seems to evoke the vibe of the particular neighborhood. The Uptown MiCo is flashy and trendy. The HP Village MiCo is set up for a «see and be seen» atmosphere. But the Mi Cocina at Preston/Forest offers a subtle amenity in that it has«kid friendly» and«adult only» seating areas. Since it seems that the parents for every soccer or basketball come here for dinner, the restaurant can be filled with kids in jerseys(at one table) and parents with margaritas(at another table). But there is also the«back room» that offers a quieter and more intimate scene for anyone without kids. And if you want to take a nap, just order up a few Mambo Taxis.

I love this place. They have enlarged the patio and yesterday was a perfect day to sit on the patio and have a meal. My goal is to go to every Mi Cocina there is!

Wow, their food and drinks are delicous. We sat outside on their patio and enjoyed the perfect weather. I ordered the brisket tacos. And wow, the meat was tender and juicy. As far as drinks, the Taxi Cab margaritas are now my favorite drink. It’s a margarita mixed with sangria. Ah-mazing! Can’t wait to be back!

This location is just ok. The waiter seemed like he was in a rush to have us out of there as quickly as possible even though the place was mostly empty and it was only 7pm. Chips and salsa were good, but they were taken away too fast :( I had the brisket taco and flan and they were both just ok. I like the Uptown location better. The parking lot is spacious and nicely lit up and thus I felt safe running to my car.
