Mais is the best, best! Get a clay pot. Seriously awesome food, been going there for 20 years!!!

I have enjoyed this place since first coming to Dallas in 1987. It was my introduction to Vietnamese food. Other places have come and gone but Mai’s has remained. It’s not an elegant or very comfortable setting but the food is always good.

I got takeout. Shrimp curry and it was incredible! Rice that came with it was spot on. Prices were fair, as well. It’s nothing fancy, but damn good, authentic Vietnamese food.

I’m pretty sure the staff here thinks I’m dying, because some of the only times I come to Mai’s is when I’m sick and in need of some warm, life-saving phở. And this is the place that I get it. It’s kinda off the beaten path(across the intersection from Jimmy’s) and maybe isn’t the fanciest place in town, but the best places never are, and Mai’s is my FAVORITE Vietnamese restaurant in town. Not only is the aforementioned Phở amazing, but the imperial rolls are awesome and the prices are reasonable. If you get the egg rolls, WATCHOUT… they are hotter than the fires of Hades. Let them cool and save your mouth. I’m going to have to try the curry clay bowl next time I go, because everyone on here keeps raving about it, but don’t forget the other delicious meals on their menu… so far, everything I’ve had has been good.

Bomb-ass curry chicken bowl(get it spicy) and equally satisfying chicken rice rolls. The peanut sauce was better than most I’ve tried. Also, super friendly staff on board. The place was packed on Saturday night!

5 years since my last review and I’m still a Mai’s fan. My go-to item over the years has changed, now I am a hard core Chicken Curry Clay Pot(or shrimp, or combo) kind of girl. It comes out sizzling boiling hot and it’s spicy perfection. First layer in the pot is rice, which gets crunchy and yummy from the heat of the pot. Then a curry stew of chicken and lots of vegetables are piled on top. On a cold day like today, it’s all I think about!

All the guests with me today at Mai’s loved their meals, and so did I! The wait staff was the best I’ve had the privilege of experiencing in quite some time. The area is a little transitional but you shouldn’t let that stop you from this hidden, east Dallas gem.

Went here tonight wasn’t that impressed with the food. It was to bland for my taste and the spring rolls tasted like a rubber hand. The price wasn’t that bad but i don’t think i will be going back. One of the waitress that wasn’t on the clock kept staring at me like I was from another country and made me uncomfortable. It’s is so dark in there you can’t see much of anything.

I’m here now. Got the spicy shrimp lunch special. Excellent. Enough to take home too. The lady at the next table is having clay pot curry, I’m having that next time.

The chicken curry bowl is awesome. I’d suggest getting the medium spicy. Its plenty hot, even for those who love hot food.

Great restaurant, good food and a nice dining experience, I am mainly providing this review as the star rating seems low for the good quality food this restaurant serves. I eat lunch here all the time during the week.

Very delicious food and service is excellent. In my opinion this is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in town. Definitely worth trying if you’re in the area.

Cozy atmosphere and small. I got the bun Bo hue(spicy noodle soup) and it was pretty good. Very reasonable. They do a really good job with their food and their quality is good. Next time I will try the clay pot.

I went off the recommendations of other Unilocalers and chose the Pork Imperial Rolls and the Chicken Curry Clay Pot. They did not steer me wrong and I was happy with my meal. I didn’t rate Mai’s higher because while the chicken, curry and rice was tasty, it wasn’t enough for me to warrant going back on any other occasion. Not while Tacos La Banqueta is right around the corner. The curry lacked depth and the pork in the rolls was not so tender. I get that is beloved by it’s regulars. The inside has a pleasantly kitch-y décor. The location is absolutely defined by being«hole-in-the-wall» place in a good way. Service was immaculate and I even witnessed a birthday dinner in full swing, complete with snapshots from a old-skool Polaroid camera.

I love this place. The pork spring rolls are amazing. I could just order this over and over and be satisfied. I don’t think there is a dish here that I don’t love. The location and ambience might turn people away but it’s the best hole in the wall joint.

Great little neighborhood institution. Don’t come for glitz(it ain’t here), but do come for good, relatively cheap comfort food served by friendly, attentive staff. I’ve been to Mai’s twice so far and I’ve had the chicken clay pot and the chicken curry clay pot. Note: they come out bubbling hot! Regarding spice, you can have it mild or spicy; I ordered the latter and both times had a pleasant level of heat that made my nose run(sorry, but it’s true) but enhanced rather than overpowered the dish’s flavors. I really liked the imperial roll as well and the peanut sauce that comes with it is delicious and enhancing. I look forward to working my way through their menu with a confidence that each meal will be tasty and served with friendly efficiency.

So the fact that they advertise themselves as «authentic Vietnamese» is probably what turned me off from the food. Friends and I were around that part of town and we had a craving for Vietnamese food. A quick Unilocal search turned up this resturant. We order chicken noodle clay pot, banh xeo(traditional vietnamese crêpe), and bo luc lac(shaken steak cubes). The banh xeo was good but overpriced. The bo luc lac was in slices Instead of cubes and didn’t exactly fit the bill for bo luc lac. Lastly, the chicken clay pot was more Chinese than Vietnamese. The food didn’t taste bad, it just wasn’t my ideal Vietnamese meal. My craving wasn’t satisfied. The service was friendly and fast. Bottom line: If you go in seeking authentic Vietnamese food than youll likely be disappointed. If you’re just looking for decent asian food, Mai’s got ya covered!
