NOOOOOO ! This restaurant is closed? A victim of construction? So sad. Their food was a fabulous blend of so many wonderful flavors

My friend took me here for my birthday and first phở experience. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. The flavors blended together nicely and the spring rolls were some of my favorite that I’ve tried.

Note to Unilocal: this restaurant is not Asian Fusion. Lemongrass serves traditional Vietnamese cuisine. The server gracefully adjusted my expectations after I asked for a Thai dish! I enjoyed an amazing grilled shrimp and pasta meal. The best part of the meal, however, was the table brewed Vietnamese french press iced cream coffee. This place is shutting down and moving to Northpark shopping center as a fast food Phở restaurant.

Deep Ellum… thanks for having this great little gem of an Asian bistro amongst your rock and roll back drop! The waiter was awesome, very polite and really took care of us. It was almost like he was the owner wanting to share his food with us. He was very attentive. The food was on point! Hot. Fresh. Flavorful. Great potions. I was dining with some pretty picky eaters and all three were beyond imptessed. They even said it was so good they would slap their own mama! Hahah My girl would not shut up about how good the won ton soup was. She practically picked up the bowl to drink it. I had the scallops and shrimp with the green noodles. It was really good. I think my scallops might have been a tad bit under cooked but everything else was delicious. I also has the fresh crab and shrimp rolls with mango. I died! So amazing! A must try. Wasn’t too impressed with their sticky rice with mango though, but my other friends were tearing up some chocolate cake like no bodies business… Price is average. The ambiance was nice… just a little fancy. We sat by the window to people watch. The only thing that was bugging us was this pestering fly trying to fly through the glass. If in the Dallas area I would visit again.

I am so excited that a co-worker suggest this unexpected Deep Ellum find. Nestled between dive bars and night clubs, Lemongrass is a breath of fresh air. The lunch service was great and at 1pm, you’d expect the lunch crowd to be moseying back to the office. But as we sat, more and more groups came in, peaking my confidence in my awaited dish. I ordered the #8 and I could have ordered 10 more. It was amazing. So yummy, savory, and fresh. The rest of my party ordered a #9 and it looked fantastic — definitely what I’ll snag next time. If you are looking for date night or a swank lunch in Deep Ellum, head to Lemongrass!

My original review still stands(though I meant to say«basil» instead of «mint» with their phở), but, I’ve realized I really look forward to their food and I forgot to mention their cakes they offer as part of any lunch entrée are always very moist and yummy! I heard a rumor that they were leaving Deep Ellum and I got worried, but I called to confirm and they said they’re just adding a new location in addition to Deep Ellum. Whew! Great food, great staff, nice atmosphere! Five stars!

I’m pretty sure I was transported to a different dimension when I walked in. The smooth lounge music and classy interior made me forget that I’m right in between Trees and the Green Room. If you sit against the windows you hardly notice the bums trudging about! Pat Baby is picky when it comes to Asian food. Let me rephrase: he likes sesame chicken. Get the idea? Now here I am wanting Vietnamese food but he doesn’t like going to phở places! Then I come across Lemongrass which is a dream come true for me! He actually found something he liked on the menu and I got to eat my bun thit nuong(I think it’s called pork with vermicelli on the menu). What further surprised me was the quality of the salad that came with lunch. It was so fresh and tasty, the shredded chicken tasted like real chicken for once! We also got complimentary carrot cake slices so deciding about dessert was already made for me. It felt like a Friday lunch feast for an awesome price. Can I skip work now?! For the people that hate parking around Deep Ellum, there is a private lot right across the street at no cost. It looks like you can order takeout too if you don’t want to be a fancy pants.

Right next to Green room and across from DaDa, Lemongrass is one of the ‘fancier’ dining spaces along the Deep Ellum Elm street corridor. By fancier I mean that the interior is dimly lit with upholstered dining chairs that aren’t meant to be used on a patio. The wait staff are not dressed in matching t-shirts, and the prices are moderate, but the quality and portion sizes are great. The only two things I can personally vouch for are the chicken salad(#20) and the tropical spring rolls(#1). The chicken salad is a mixture of lettuce, cabbage, cilantro, carrots, pulled chicken, and peanuts, topped with a spicy and tangy citrus-y dressing. It was big, and amazingly delicious. So much so that I contemplated eating the garnish after I’d consumed the salad itself. The tropical spring rolls are rice noodle/paper wrapped, containing shrimp, mango, crab, and some other stuff. They come with a peanut/thai chili sauce(may also contain fish sauce, I couldn’t figure it out) for dipping. The wrapper wasn’t so thick that you couldn’t taste the contents inside, but they also didn’t fall apart. I would definitely order these again, but price here was a little steep, $ 6.50 for 2 thin 5″ rolls, or $ 12 for 4. As for drinking, the wines are a bit pricey — at around $ 10 a glass(house or otherwise). Beers were in the $ 5 range. They supposedly also have good lunch specials around $ 10. AND, most importantly… THEYDELIVER! You can order through the Unilocal app!

My wife and I ran through Deep Ellum’s cigarrette ridden streets to stumble upon this place. The atmosphere is clean, modernly elegant, and relaxed. I will admit that the chef came out based upon our questioning the waiter; and I am not sure how I felt about it. I don’t claim to be an expert of vietnamese food. He was rather accomodating; almost to the point of making me self-concious; and I can tell that they take great pride in their work. I just felt that the food accented the sweet way over the acidic and spicy for my tastes. My pallete just reacts to sweet more than most people. In retrospect, I should have ordered the spinach pasta and vegatables with a meat dish. That, unfortunately, will make this review biased. As usual, I will go item by item. Here is what we had: 1) Shrimp Spring Rolls The shrimp was lightly sweetened; which worked well with the vermicelli, mint, and cilantro. The roasted peanut halves added an excellent accent. The sweet peanut sauce was also quite enjoyable. 2) Green Papaya and Shrimp Salad This is the dish that offended my sensibilities; and I am going to stick with the critique. The papaya was cut thin, and absolutely drenched in a sugary sauce. Had it been cut thicker, with less sauce, it would have been perfect. The chef explained that they were balancing the flavors; unfortunately I could not taste any vinegar or papaya. I saw chiles, but I don’t think I actually tasted them without picking them out to eat them individually. Plain and simple, the ingredients were obscurred. The sugar absolutely overpowered this dish and I couldn’t taste anything else. 3) Tofu Curry I’ll be honest; I didn’t know that they would add sugar to it. It actually had and intricate flavour; but my palette was so drenched from the papaya dish that I had to ask the waiter about it. Once I drank more water, it was pretty good. I wish that the ingredients in the curry would have been more pronounced; and slightly less sweet so that I could taste the coconut and spices, but that is personal preference. 4) Shrimp and Vermicelli I messed up in ordering this for my wife. The ingredients are great mixed; but she wanted something less dry. They were nice enough to bring a broth. The Nuoc Mam Cham mixed well with it. The leftovers are actually pretty good.

My hubby and I gave this place a try! The atmosphere is surprisingly romantic considering the location. Dimmed lighting, candle light, wine glasses, waiter in slacks, button down and tie! And while on that topic the service from the one man that seemed to be doing everything was impeccable! He made the BEST menu suggestions and we were so glad we listened to him! Our food: I had a ginger and chicken tenderloin plate that came with rice and veggies. That makes it sound so blah but oh MY gosh. there was nothing blah about it. We also had pan seared dumplings and I believe pork spring rolls. Those were both wonderful along with the sauces they came with! I do not remember what exactly my husband got because he basically let the server order for him, but it was delicious too! It was spicy beef/pork with noodles and veggies. The menu is totally customizable for anyone with allergies or a picky palate. They can remove anything and adjust spiciness… according to the server, although we didn’t change a thing! This may just be our new favorite date night spot. Only down side is parking in deep ellum isn’t always easy/free!

Lovely, interesting food in a very pretty, quiet space, and even though the portions were large, it was more expensive than we wanted. But we’ll go back! I loved #42 and my husband loved scallops & shrimp with green noodles. «Tasty and good!» sez he.

Did I really just come back a week later? Yes. Group of 11 — minimal waiting time for food/service. We all instantly gobbled up our respective meals(the table was silent for a good 5 minutes) with not even a grain of rice left on our places, since it was sooo good. More reasons why this place is great: –Friend asked for extra broccoli, and got a HUGE plate — she was happy. –Adjacent party had two cakes for birthday, and the wait staff gave us all the extra slices — I was happy. –Food was even more delicious than last time — everyone was happy. –Also, the establishment had us go up to the counter on the way out to pay for our own — giving us flexibility on when each individual could leave and not to worry about a group check. And that they trusted us. –Free parking!

Before going to a concert at Trees, a friend and I went to Lemongrass for a bite to eat. We were really surprised to see such an upscale restaurant in the middle of Deep Ellum right next door to a concert venue. We were a little concerned about being under-dressed for this restaurant, but we went for it anyway. The dining area was intimate and had nice mood lighting for a romantic date or business meeting. The tables had lovely fresh flowers and tea lights which added to the ambiance. Our wait staff was very professional and brought out our food and check in an extremely timely manner. I ordered the tofu with sauteed vegetables which was made with coconut milk and black bean sauce and came brown rice. The vegetables were well cooked and I loved the texture of the tofu — the rich, sweet sauce added great flavor. I believe they also threw in taro root which was not listed on the menu but a great surprise — I’d never had that before in a dish! My friend enjoyed his dish as well — it came with a side of «rice corn» which we were intrigued by. I turns out it’s rice and corn mixed together which added some great texture to the main dish. I would totally recommend this place if you want to go somewhere classy and upscale — I can see how it could easily be overlooked amidst Deep Ellum’s wild and outlandish storefronts, so please don’t pass this gem up!

Well call me Oprah and add Lemongrass to my list of FAVORITE things! Okay, Okay… so I’m not the big O(huge surprise there), but this bistro became an instant Asian Fusion fave of mine! Let’s start with what’s most important in life: food. Number 19 on the menu is completely drool-worthy. This dish offers a generous amount of shrimp blended in a saucy concoction of exotic spices, onions, curry, coconut milk with the added crunchy surprise of sprinkled peanuts. However if you’re looking for a healthier option, they offer several gluten-free dishes made fresh to your order. Just ask your waiter! Mine was super well-versed in all of these options. You might walk in thinking this place is a bit fancy shmanzcy for lunch, but in actuality it’s very reasonable. And of course, can’t forget about service which was top notch too! We were seated right away and with a smile. Since it appeared to be one of their slower days and times, the server generously hooked us with a complimentary piece of delightful yellow lemon cake. Can’t get any sweeter than that!

I love Asian food. Not the type from a fast food restaurant in a strip mall, but the kind of food that is unique and dazzle your taste buds. Lemongrass is a beautiful restaurant with white linen table cloths, along with a service staff that takes care of your every need. The Asian salad that comes with lunch had a light and elegant rice vinaigrette. I had the wide noodles with agedashi tofu. I’ve got another appointment in Dallas coming soon. This will be my first stop. Great food, exceptional service and a fair price.

I work literally 2 minutes from Deep Ellum, so I go to Lemongrass very often — but that is saying something considering that isn’t for lack of nearby places to go to. It’s hard to categorize it as just a Vietnamese restaurant because it is unique and thus hard to compare against typical hole-in-the-wall places. First off, order the Pork Spring Rolls. They are the best I’ve ever had — anywhere. You can ask for hot sauce on the side with them if you’d like. But one thing though, they are NOT listed on the lunch menu so just remember to ask for them. The lunch deal means you’ll start off with either a soup or salad — I always get salad, it’s more of an asian slaw and it’s very good. If the rest of the menu wasn’t so good I’d just order the salad entrée as my meal. Anything with Spinach Pasta is good, and there’s a lot of items on the menu which come with it. I usually get the Garlic Chicken with Spinach Pasta, but the Salmon is also VERY good, and I don’t typically like cooked salmon. In fact, the salmon is better than the chicken but because it’s pricier, I’m content with the chicken for lunch which is still very good. Another thing I’ll frequently get is the Pork Vermicelli, you can get it at most Vietnamese places but that doesn’t make it worth getting any less. Lastly, dessert — 4⁄5 times you’ll always get some type of cake. Sometimes coconut, lemon, or regular vanilla, but you had better hope it is carrot cake. It is moist, dark and amazing with homemade frosting. It’s always slightly disappointing when you get a sliced orange for dessert instead, but owell. Overall, I love the place and while the prices($ 9 – 13) are slightly higher than what I’d like to pay for lunch, the quality and taste is worth it in my opinion.

Sorry to have neglected you, Lemongrass. I was pretty heartbroken when I asked for the sushi menu and was told you don’t offer sushi any longer. I will never forget that tuna tower… Four of my friends and I had a nice New Years dinner here. I opted for the beef lettuce rolls, and they were great. The beef tasted good and the peanut sauce was yummy. Combined with the noodles, fancy lettuce that was all dipped into the fish sauce… it tasted great. I had a bite of my friend’s sea bass and it was delicious. The general consensus at the table was the food was great, and the restaurant was a little fancier than one of my friends had thought. Win win for everyone.

Thank goodness I did not look at the food photos before I ate at this place. Those messy sushi rolls are NOT what this place is all about. This is fabulous Vietnamese food with a fantastic touch of class. The service is wonderful and I thought the interior is warm and inviting with some hip music. I uploaded a pic of the inside you can see and a shot of the thai iced coffee! So I had some Riesling, the lemongrass pork spring rolls to start, which come with dipping sauces, yum yum Followed by(yes Pork) Lemongrass pork noodles which is a very traditional dish that has so much flavor and spice. They mixed it for me which is a great service move. If you eat this kind of dish you know you can make a serious mess! I finished with some Thai Iced coffee… which I LOVE! mmmmm Coffee with heavy cream, I can feel my thighs getting thicker already. mmmm I highly recommend this place if your looking for spicy asian flavor and good service. I believe you get what you pay for(usually) and I’m willing to pay if its good. I’ve paid a lot more and its been far less then this!

Finally… a Vietnamese restaurant in Dallas that exceeded my expectations and the hype! My friends kept raving about this place and I wasn’t really sold yet on whether this was as good as they said it was. I had to experience it for myself. As I walked into this dimly lit dining establishment… i was immediately greeted by a gracious host who directed me to a table close to the bar with my friend’s awaiting me. I couldn’t help but notice the fresh flowers, nice paintings and décor. It definitely was an extraordinary experience for eating Vietnamese food. No crappy service with loud obnoxious Vietnamese speaking waiters and folkloric music playing in the background. The glorified waiter/owner pulled out the works for me by ordering the finest appetizers and dishes. The fresh char-coiled beef spring rolls were probably the best I’ve ever had. The rice wrap was soft and not rubbery. The peanut sauce complimented the rolls very well. My favorite appetizer of the night was the beef carpaccio with a side of crunchy shrimp chips and tasty fish sauce. The hot and sour soup aka«canh chua» was savory with each sip. According to the owner, they use fresh lemon juice instead of tamarind to enhance flavor. Although, I could have passed on the dumplings he brought out for us to try. As a child, I detested eating this Vietnamese dish(rice flour combined in coconut milk with tumeric powder pan-fried in a crêpe-like form called«Bánh Xèo») Lemongrass was the only exception. I actually enjoyed it because it was a small portion with barely any bean sprouts, and generous amounts of scallops and shrimp. I absolutely LOVED the Chicken Curry and the rice that accompanied the dish. The curry was a comfort in my mouth each time I took a bite. The shaken beef with fresh garlic pasta was delicious. Definitely something different from the«bo luc lac» I get in Houston. The prices are a little a steep, but it’s definitely worth it. Everything I ate was delish! OooOOh, they serve Tiger Beer and flavored sake too! One more reason to come to Dallas. I wish I just didn’t have to drive four hours to eat here. Can’t wait to try out the lunch specials and the desserts next time i’m in town.
