My husband use to take me here when we were first dating. Love it. I always get the catfish combo and we always order the hushpuppies. They have a small kick to them but they are so good. My most recent visit was with my oldest daughter and two sons. I wanted to try something different so I ordered the rainbow trout. It was really good. She liked her catfish but we both didn’t like the steamed vegetables as much as Flying Fish at Firewheel Garland and then we both didn’t like the rice. The only downfall that I remember even as a couple is that the place is small and it gets so packed it’s really hard at times to get seating. They even have signs to order first and then be seated and that doesn’t work out. The seating is saved while others order. We’ve even done this before in the past times. It’s not a convenient or comfortable place with small children! The line is literally right by the table we originally sat down at, with a mans butt near my face, so we moved. It was better but it’s a small place so you are packed in there like sardines. They do have some outside deck seating that is covered. My husband and I have done that before but with my 10 month old that will not work and then especially if the weather is cold which it was that day, it’s worse. Not very much space for high chairs inside either, as a matter of fact my 10 month old hit his mouth on the high chair. People kept passing by to get to bathroom and it was frustrating. The same guy is there from over 10 years ago! Very friendly and the service is pretty fast. If you are going with a big group for lunch or heck, any other time, good luck on the seating, you might have to sit immediately outside or prepare to wait somewhere.

I love this place. I have been going here since I was a little kid and it hasn’t changed one bit, which is rare these days. The food is always very consistent and good. Top quality fish, very fresh and the service is super friendly! Be prepared to wait for a table because it is always packed and first come first serve! There is also outside seating available. Love this place and I hope it never leaves!

Yes this place is always packed… know why? Hook Line & Sinker is some awesome food. It’s tiny inside but they do have a patio too. Hubby always gets the Shrimp Cocktail and he can never finish it all. The Veggie Kabobs have grilled veggies(mostly squash and zucchini) with rice pilaf that is really really REALLY good. I’m not sure what they put in the rice to make it so addicting, but I crave it! Their beers are always ice cold and if you can grab a table, people watching is priemo here.

It’s our family favorite for catfish, shrimp and hush puppies. Easy to navigate menu– baskets for fish, combos for shrimp/fish– and such… good quality food, cold beer and wine and a friendly staff. Prices are not fast-food prices, but the quality is superior in accordance.(this isn’t Long John Silvers) FYI, be careful if using Groupon as the one we had was for N. Dallas and was not accepted at Lemmon Avenue location :-/

Great place for Louisiana style seafood. And a Dallas original. This place has been here since at least the 90s, maybe longer. Love the oyster and catfish poboys. They also have fantastic grilled salmon or rainbow trout. The gumbo is also great. Love the vibe of the place as well. Great outdoor seating.

I’ve been coming to this place as long as it’s been open and the quality of food has gone down significantly but still OK. The hush puppies and fries are bland and don’t have much seasoning to it. The grilled veggies are bad but lack of zesty lemon pepper taste. The Mexican shrimp cocktails used to be my favorite but they seem to have changed the tomato juice ingredient in this as well which makes it taste a bit on the pasty side. We ordered spicy shrimp cocktails but they gave us regular. The catfish has also gone down in flavor but edible nonetheless.

Nice place to sit outside and visit with friends. Food came out pretty fast considering there were 8 of us. Everyone ordered something different and with the exception of a few cold fries liked everything they ordered.

The food was average — fried seafood is fried seafood in my opinion — but the food seemed pretty pricey. The service for our experience was poor, which is why we won’t return. We had a coupon from a local festival and it was an ordeal to get it redeemed. They forgot our order and we were waiting 30+ minutes for our food.

My experience: –oyster and shrimp poboy — I thought the cornmeal batter could use some spice as others have mentioned, but It was still very good. –lemonade — excellent and free refills! –fries — excellent! Probably best ever! –hushpuppies — good! Cocktail sauce — not a fan as it was too ketchupy. Overall this place squeaks in at 4 stars! What doesn’t make sense is the Unilocal score of 3.5 stars. Taco diner gets 3.5 stars and it’s the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had. Thus it took me a long time to try this place out, as I expected it to be terrible. Sure it’s not as good as S&D oyster co., but it’s not as pricey either. I’ll be back for sure to try other items on the menu.

I had to give them 3 stars for a few reasons 1. Not a lot of seating inside or outside the restaurant. And the seats are so close to each other. 2. The line is long to order your food and your in people’s way while they are trying to eat. 3. Some of my onions were cold. It took while for them to make my burger 4. My sister didn’t like her fried shrimp. I don’t know if we will return here because it was a hassle to find a table for the six people in my group. And are food got done at different times.

I came here for dinner on a Friday night so it was busy. Packed tables outside and inside, but we managed to get a table for 2 inside. I thought my salmon dinner was cooked very well — tender with some juice. We also ordered the fried fish, shrimp and clams combo. The batter on all 3 tasted the same! I think they can do better. The fish is in desperate need of flavor and spice — too plain. Other than that, my experience was average. Really liked the fact that they had all sorts of condiments at the table with a huge roll of paper towel to wipe your hand down.

Fabulous fish. I have the tilapia all the time because I’m cheap but it is amazing. The key lime pie is A+. The grilled veggies are the best. Well cooked over a grill just right. The rice is very well done. Basically, it’s a hidden gem of a fish restaurant. It’s casual and diner like but who cares, right? Unless you’re dating some princess or something(I’m not). Parking is ehh, but you’ll find one.

This place stays pretty packed! I like to come and sit on the patio. Their shrimp is probably my favorite and it’s a good bet if you’re looking for good grub in the Uptown area. I am loving that lots more places in Dallas are serving up seafood to make you sorta feel like you’re right on the water! That honestly is my biggest complaint living in this landlocked area… man, just give me some fresh seafood! Ya know?!? Anyway, I have not tried other items but I hear they also have things like burgers and such. This would not be my first choice in terms of seafood out here but overall it’s a good vibe and atmosphere and location wise you’re close to West Village so you can walk around after.

Legit! Good spot right here. Small place, but so is just about everything in uptown. I had the combo with shrimp, oysters, and catfish fillets. All good, and the shrimp especially good. They butterfly it so it’s pretty flat… but that means it’s been de-turded :) The fries! Good fresh fries… that’s a solid reason to come here for me. Lots of places serve soggy brown old fries. These guys do it right. Order at the counter then sit and they’ll bring your food. This is a nice alternative to Big Shucks and the like. Give em a try!

Furniture shopping made us hungry. The kids kept chanting they wanted catfish. At one point, they were on a catfish kick and had to have catfish every weekend. A quick search on Unilocal of who had catfish and a look at the reviews we decided to stop here. HL&S is a little shacky and had all things nautical on the outside of it. It reminded me of a few places back in Florida. Most of their menu is fried, but I was happy to see a small little portion of grilled things. I got the grilled catfish with squash and zucchini. The kids and husband got the fried catfish. Both the fried and grilled catfish were pretty good and fresh! Would definitely come back.
