This was literally my favorite place, I can’t believe it is gone!!! I always enjoyed eating and watching the planes come and go. I hope they are just restructuring!

I am so sad they closed. Was my favorite Mexican place and a tradition for me and my son. I feel like I am grieving a relative. Does anybody know what happened? Greedy corporate scumbag landlord screwed him out of business by raising rent unreasonably high?

Fast, friendly and great prices. If you’re looking for a great tex mex lunch near live field this is the place. My coworkers and I use this as our go to lunch meeting spot. And Tony himself is always there with a helpful smile. *Sad to say but looks like they’re closed

I was taken here against my will, work related. The place smells like an extremely old apartment that housed cats, it’s pretty bad. I had the Diablo shrimp which tasted pretty good, I was surprised. I will never return because of the smell, makes me question their hygiene.

April Fools Day proved an unfortunately appropriate time to lunch at Grandpa Tony’s. A down home and homely frayed grassroots look was a gamble with the bad curb appeal. Chips were stale, salsa was thin and low on flavor. The tortilla soup broth was virtually indistinguishable from that from a can and with only one chunk of chicken and a few celery pieces, it failed the litmus test of Mexican cooking. My friends burrito looked good and greasy, which he seemed to enjoy as filling grub, but he admitted the overall experience was less than to be desired. His rice looked unseasoned and sad. Service was fast but product was low. For greasy mex you’d do better at La Hichezera down the street at maple and inwood, or the Ranchero grocery store on Maple down from it, or Ojedas. Sorry Grandpa!

Awesome Tex-mex(not Mexican food, Christopher R.). Also, I’ve been here with a group of 9, and we never had a problem splitting the checks. They do it right. Beans and rice are awfully good. Salsa is incredible. I walk out very satisfied, and pretty much useless for work in the afternoon. I wouldn’t have it any other way, honestly. The staff have always been very friendly and on the ball service wise. Fast, fast, fast! My cup has never come close to empty. Grandpa Tony’s hits the spot.

I’ve passed by here so many times going to and from Love Field Airport. I finally decided to give it a shot and I was not let down. Probably one of the best Tex-Mex places I’ve ever had. I have yet to be disappointed, the service is great, food is excellent. Salsa is more of a hot sauce, not exactly watery, enough consistency to hold on your chip and not do a balancing act. Very full of flavor and some kick. I highly recommend trying anything here.

Tale of the tape: I would go back. And back. And back. Cheap, very tasty food that is presented quickly by an attentive, friendly staff.

Heard really good things about this place, and contrary to what I heard it’s just not good. They use American cheese on their enchiladas… I thought this was Mexican food?! Lunch gets packed but I highly recommend trying the numerous small joints that line Maple Ave. At least you know you are getting real Mexican authentic food! One bright note was that it was Wednesday and the enchiladas were on special for $ 4.99. Luckily Grandpa Tony didn’t take me out behind the shed and empty my pocketbook.

This place is very Tex-Mex. Which means it isn’t what you might be used to if you like chains or fast Mexican food. This food tastes authentic. I wish I would have had room to try great classics like tacos, burritos, tamales, etc. The menu showed a beef and chicken chili relleno, but no cheese chili relleno. We asked anyway and they said they had it. In minutes there it was, as good as any and hot. We also had the Tacos al Carbon which were very spicy, just the way I like them. The refried beans were fresh and authentic and mixed well with the rice. Most people are probably used to dry clumpy refried beans but this was like I remembered back home in West Texas. The only complaint would be that the guacamole wasn’t great. My wife said it needed more garlic. The service was very attentive. The place wasn’t very crowded and appeared to cater to the lunch crowd and since we were there after 8PM we almost had the place to ourselves, and I enjoyed the lack of the crowd. This brought back memories of West Texas little Tex-Mex joints and we enjoyed it. I recommend going here to experience good Tex-Mex and not just another Taco Cabana or South of the Border.

Chips were super yummy! The food was good, not amazing but good. The service was absolutely excellent but there was only a couple people in the establishment. The beans were a little runny and rice was just ok. My husband loved that they had Prailines at the register.

Phenomenal brisket chimichanga! I mean it really hit the spot for lunch. Cheap beer adds to the entire experience(sshhh I’m not sure they really what they’re doing with the beer prices). Definitely going to be added to the lunch rotation.

I work at Love Field and I sent pilots from our facility often. I have never had one return to say that it was anything less than«excellent» or «delish and inexpensive» I have also been and loved the quick yummy food. Service is wonderful and ambiance is quaint and colorful!

Love the enchiladas! Grandpa Tony’s is the first restaurant you run into as you leave Love Field. I think they close real early — I have only been there for lunch but they seem closed when I get home on a flight after 6pm. They have a great new parking lot! This is a big deal if you have been here in the past. The hotel next store has also been remodeled so it doesn’t look like a crack hotel anymore. Don’t let this scare you — Grandpa Tony’s is the quintessential great, hole in the wall mexican food. I always get the chicken enchiladas and they are the best I have had yet in Dallas. The beer is super cheap. $ 2.25 for draft at full price, I think it is only a buck at happy hour. Cheap beer and awesome enchiladas makes me a happy man! Service is quick and super friendly. Wish I lived closer to Love Field

Yum, Grandpa Tony, thanks for your festive atmosphere, huge menu, and cheap beer. Sampled all of the enchilada’s, the cheese was the best. The ground taco meat in tacos was really good, as was the salsa. Curious what karyoke nights are like…

We were on the way to DFW and I’ve been craving mexican food since I landed in Dallas last Thursday evening. We drive by this very authentic looking place and make a quick right into the parking lot. I’m already getting excited knowing that I’m in for a real authentic south of the border experience. We are seated quickly in a very festive, casual and perfectly comfortable dining area. As I look over the lunch menu with approximately twenty five lunch combinations, I’m struggling to make a decision. I decide on the chicken taco combination w/rice and beans($ 6.95) and then after placing my order, I flag the waiter down and request to change my order to the two tamales. As much as I LOVE mexcian food, I feel like something more adventurous than tacos. He plesantly agrees to change my order. The food arrives, piping hot and fresh, the tamales nicely portioned, not too big with beef and a spicey red sauce. Everything tastes delicious… I love the chips, there is nothing better than freshly made tortilla chips. I’m a happy camper after another great lunch in this food heaven called Dallas, TX.

How fun is this place! I had a meeting today with one of the programmers working on a site we’re building and she took me here for lunch. It was super busy but we were greeted, seated and served chips and salsa in under a few minutes. The place is super bright and is filled with Mexican garden patio type furniture and décor. There are colorful pots everywhere to match the table tops they have here and the crowd is very diverse. The chips were really warm and semi greasy and even though the salsa wasn’t chunky I still enjoyed it. This is definitely a place for fast service at a great price. The lunch specials are mostly under $ 7 and they have daily specials on top of that. My friend got the Wednesday«hump day» special that came with two beef enchiladas, rice and beans for get this $ 4.95! I got the uno special which came with three different chicken enchiladas, it was yummy and filling for the $ 6.95. Our food came out really(I can’t stress this enough) fast it makes you wonder what the kitchen is doing to move at such a fast pace. You better believe I will be coming back to Grandpa Tony’s again to check out their other daily lunch specials!

Grandpa Tony’s is a great place for a quick hot Tex-Mex lunch. My son works at Love Field and introduced me to this popular lunch spot. Lunch is served as quick as I have ever experienced at a Mexican restaurant. The salsa is as Jeremy H. said, not chunky– is an understatement. It is more like Valentino sauce, a popular red pepper sauce among my friends from the south, and has the consistency of tabasco sauce. The chimichangas, tacos, and enchiladas are served hot and tasty. The location is in a busy area on Mockingbird near the airport, and is in an old but clean building.

What I do like is that while the consistency of their salsa is not as chunky as I’d like, it does have a little kick that is missing in most salsa’s I’ve encountered here in Dallas. I’ve gone here several times for lunch and I must say their service is great. Even during the busy weekday lunch hour, chips and salsa were provided in a timely manner, drink orders taken, and the food presented in a very timely manner. As for the food itself, it was tasty. I’m not exactly sure how authentic this place is as I’ve only ordered from their lunch menu that contains all the Tex-Mex favorites– tacos, enchilladas, and the like. The prices are good and my most recent meal there was a queso topped Chimichanga. Not the healthiest, but it sure tasted good. As a quick convenient place to go for lunch from my workplace, I’ll give this place 3.5 stars.
